The resistivity method has been used to image the electrical properties of the subsurface. Especially, this method has become suitable for monitoring since data could be rapidly and automatically acquired. In this study, we developed a time-lapse inversion algorithm for the interpretation of resistivity monitoring data. The developed inversion algorithm imposes a big penalty on the model parameter with small change, while a minimal penalty on the model parameter with large change compared to the reference model. Through the numerical experiments, we can ensure that the time-lapse inversion result shows more accurate and focused image where model parameters have changed. Also, applying the timelapse inversion method to the leakage detection of an embankment dam, we can confirm that there are three major leakage zones, but they have not changed over time.

Recently, multi-dimensional joint inversion of geophysical data based on fundamentally different physical properties is being actively studied. Joint inversion can provide a way to obtaining much more accurate image of the subsurface structure. Through the joint inversion, furthermore, it is possible to directly estimate non-geophysical material properties from geophysical measurements. In this study, we developed a new algorithm for jointly inverting dc resistivity and seismic traveltime data based on the multiple constraints: (1) structural similarity based on cross-gradient, (2) correlation between two different material properties, and (3) a priori information on the material property distribution. Through the numerical experiments of surface dc resistivity and seismic refraction surveys, the performance of the proposed algorithm was demonstrated and the effects of different regularizations were analyzed. In particular, we showed that the hidden layer problem in the seismic refraction method due to an inter-bedded low velocity layer can be solved by the joint inversion when appropriate constraints are applied.
We outline a process for estimating Cole-Cole parameters from time-domain induced polarization (IP) data. The IP transients are all inverted to 2D Cole-Cole earth models that include resistivity, chargeability, relaxation time, and the frequency exponent. Our inversion algorithm consists of two stages. We first convert the measured voltage decay curves into time series of current-on time apparent resistivity to circumvent the negative chargeability problem. As a first step, a 4D inversion recovers the resistivity model at each time channel that increases monotonically with time. The desired intrinsic Cole-Cole parameters are then recovered by inverting the resistivity time series of each inversion block. In the second step, the Cole-Cole parameters can be estimated readily by setting the initial model close to the true value through a grid search method. Finally, through inversion procedures applied to synthetic data sets, we demonstrate that our algorithm can image the Cole-Cole earth models effectively.

The design of efficient cryptosystems is mainly appointed by the efficiency of the underlying finite field arithmetic. Especially, among the basic arithmetic over finite field, the rnultiplicative inversion is the most time consuming operation. In this paper, a fast inversion algerian in finite field $GF(2^m)$ with the standard basis representation is proposed. It is based on the Extended binary gcd algorithm (EBGA). The proposed algorithm executes about $18.8\%\;or\;45.9\%$ less iterations than EBGA or Montgomery inverse algorithm (MIA), respectively. In practical applications where the dimension of the field is large or may vary, systolic array sDucture becomes area-complexity and time-complexity costly or even impractical in previous algorithms. It is not suitable for low-weight and low-power systems, i.e., smartcard, the mobile phone. In this paper, we propose a new hardware architecture to apply an area-efficient and a synchronized inverter on low-complexity systems. It requires the number of addition and reduction operation less than previous architectures for computing the inverses in $GF(2^m)$ furthermore, the proposed inversion is applied over either prime or binary extension fields, more specially $GF(2^m)$ and GF(P) .

This paper represents an adaptive beamforming technique to suppress interference or jamming signals in wideband. In order to maintain low side lobe level(SLL) at an antenna element level, Taylor-weighting was used. Also, to make a nulling beam pattern toward jammer's directions in wideband, we used the modified Loaded Sample Matrix Inversion(LSMI) algorithm and Tapped Delay Line(TDL). To verify the proposed algorithm, we applied it to a rectangular array antenna. Finally, the results show beam pattern with low SLL and jammers suppression.
The extended Born, or localized nonlinear approximation of integral equation (IE) solution has been applied to inverting single-hole electromagnetic (EM) data using a cylindrically symmetric model. The extended Born approximation is less accurate than a full solution but much superior to the simple Born approximation. When applied to the cylindrically symmetric model with a vertical magnetic dipole source, however, the accuracy of the extended Born approximation is greatly improved because the electric field is scalar and continuous everywhere. One of the most important steps in the inversion is the selection of a proper regularization parameter for stability. Occam's inversion (Constable et al., 1987) is an excellent method for obtaining a stable inverse solution. It is extremely slow when combined with a differential equation method because many forward simulations are needed but suitable for the extended Born solution because the Green's functions, the most time consuming part in IE methods, are repeatedly re-usable throughout the inversion. In addition, the If formulation also readily contains a sensitivity matrix, which can be revised at each iteration at little expense. The inversion algorithm developed in this study is quite stable and fast even if the optimum regularization parameter Is sought at each iteration step. Tn this paper we show inversion results using synthetic data obtained from a finite-element method and field data as well.
The advent of towed geo-electrical array surveying on water and land has resulted in datasets of magnitude approaching that of airborne electromagnetic surveying and most suited to 1D inversion. Robustness and complete automation is essential if processing and reliable interpretation of such data is to be viable. Sharp boundaries such as river beds and the top of saline aquifers must be resolved so use of smoothness constraints must be minimised. Suitable inversion algorithms must intelligently handle low signal-to-noise ratio data if conductive basement, that attenuates signal, is not to be misrepresented. A noise-level aware inversion algorithm that operates with one elastic thickness layer per electrode configuration has been coded. The noise-level aware inversion identifies if conductive basement has attenuated signal levels so that they are below noise level, and models conductive basement where appropriate. Layers in the initial models are distributed to span the effective depths of each of the geo-electric array quadrupoles. The algorithm works optimally on data collected using geo-electric arrays with an approximately exponential distribution of quadrupole effective depths. Inversion of data from arrays with linear electrodes, used to reduce contact resistance, and capacitive-line antennae is plausible. This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of the algorithm using theoretical examples and an example from a salt interception scheme on the Murray River, Australia.
In this paper, we use a computational algorithm for the inversion of the one and two-dimensional $\mathcal{L}_2$-transform based on the Bromwich's integral and the Fourier series. The new inversion formula can evaluate the inverse of the $\mathcal{L}_2$-transform with considerable accuracy over a wide range of values of the independent variable and can be devised for the functions which are not Laplace transformable and have damping motion in small interval near origin.
A robust objective function in the frequency domain is applied to the acoustic full waveform inversion. The proposed objective function is defined as $l_1$-norm of residual wavefields in the frequency domain. Generally, the full waveform inversion is extremely sensitive to a number of factors such as parameterization, initial model, noise and so on. The numerical tests were performed for checking the sensitivity to attenuation and several noises. For the comparison with other objective functions, the conventional least-squares method and the logarithmic method were tested under the same condition. The synthetic data examples show that the proposed algorithm is more robust than the well-known methods.
The evaluation of shear modulus (or shear wave velocity) profile of the site is very important in various fields of geotechnical engineering and various surface wave methods have applied to determine the shear wave velocity profiles and showed good performance. Surface wave methods evaluate the dispersion curve in the field and determine the shear wave velocity profile through the inversion process. In this paper, the automated inversion process using the genetic algorithm is developed for HWAW method which is one of surface wave methods recently developed. The proposed method uses the error function based on the wavelength domain dispersion curve and can determine the reliable shear wave velocity profile not only in shallow depth but also in deep depth. To estimate the validity of the proposed method, numerical simulations and field test were performed and the proposed method was applied to determine the shear wave velocity profiles. Through the numerical simulations and field applications, the promising potential of the proposed method was verified.
