Transient thermal analysis of a three-dimensional axisymmetric automotive disk brake is presented in this paper. Temperature fields are obtained using a hybrid FFT-FEM scheme that combines Fourier transform techniques and finite element method. The use of a fast Fourier transform algorithm can avoid singularity problems and lead to inexpensive computing time. The transformed problem is solved with finite element scheme for each frequency domain. Inverse transforms are then performed for time domain solution. Numerical examples are presented for validation tests. Comparisons with analytical results show very good agreement. Also, a 3-D simulation, based upon an automotive brake disk model is performed.
In the current study, automatic tool compensation is accomplished by using a finite element stamping analysis for a center roof rail made of UHSS in order to satisfy the specifications for shape accuracy. The initial blank shape is calculated from a finite element inverse analysis and potential forming defects such as tearing and wrinkling are determined by the finite element stamping analysis based on the initial tool shape. The blank shape is optimized to meet the shape requirements of the final product with the stamping analysis, and die compensation is determined with the information about springback. The specifications for shape accuracy were successfully achieved by the proposed die compensation scheme using the finite element stamping analysis. The current study demonstrates that the compensation tendency is similar when the proposed scheme is used or when the compensation is performed by trial and error in the press-shop. This similarity verifies that the automatic compensation scheme can be used effectively in the first stage of tool design especially for components made from UHSS.
The noise sources, structure-borne and/or air-borne, in machinery can be defined by their locations and strengths. However the locations of that noise sources are well known in many cases. In those cases, the problem can be defined as an inverse problem to known the strengths of the noise sources in the frequency domain, the modeling scheme is classified by thecoherent or incoherent source. This paper expands the basic concept to the case of the complex noise sources, in which the set of coherent and incoherent noise sources are matched with the noise of a real vehicle. The error factors in the experiment and the optimal number of the monopole sources to match the real suond filed are also investigated. The results of the noise source modeling of heavy machinery show that the incoherent and coherent/incoherent source models are applicable to the high frequency and the low frequency region, respectively. The noise source model also enables the noise source analysis to rank the contribution of real source group such as engine, T/M, exhuast, etc.
Firstly, a new kind of prismatic tensegrity structures with redundant cables is defined, the topology, geometry and forming conditions of which are introduced further. The development of its mechanical properties including self-stress states and structural stiffness with the increment of the twist angle is also investigated carefully. Combined with the topology of this kind of structures, a reasonable erection scheme is proposed, in which some temporary lifting points need to be set and two groups of vertical cables are tensioned in batches. Then, a simplified dynamic relaxation method is employed to track the erection process inversely, which aims to predict each intermediate equilibrium state during the construction, and give the key structural parameters that can effectively guide the construction. The removal of the active cables, the relaxation or tension of the passive cables are simulated by controlling their axial stiffness, so that the structural composition as well as the serial numbers of the elements always keep invariant regardless of the withdrawal of the slack cables. The whole analysis process is clear in concept, simple to implement and easy to popularize. Finally, several examples are given to verify the practicability and effectiveness of the proposed method further.
To achieve desired microstructure and mechanical property of a manufacturing product, heat treatment process is applied as a secondary process after forging. Especially, quenching process is used for improving strength, hardness, and wear resistance since phase transformation occurs owing to rapid heat transfer from the surface of the specimen. In the present paper, a study on surface temperature measurement for water quenching of eutectoid steel was investigated. In order to determine the temperature history in experiments, three different measuring schemes were used by varying installation techniques of K-type thermocouples. Depending on the measured temperature distribution at the surface of the specimen, convective heat transfer coefficients were numerically determined as a function of temperature by the inverse finite element analysis considering the latent heat generation due to phase transformation. Based on the inversely determined convective heat transfer coefficient, temperature, phase, and hardness distributions in the specimen after water quenching were numerically predicted. By comparing the experimental and computational hardness distribution at three different locations in the specimen, the best temperature measuring scheme was determined. This work clearly demonstrates the effect of temperature measurement on the final mechanical property in terms of hardness distribution.
This study was conducted to evaluate the adequacy of an alternative a.m.-p.m. testing scheme for milk yield in comparison with the official test method based on weighing two milkings within 24 h. A total of 8,309 p.m. milking weights and 6,767 a.m. milking weights from 72 Holstein cows raised at N.L.R.I. were collected between October 2000 and November 2001. Ratios were computes for daily milk yield to a.m. and p.m. milking weights(direct yield ratios) and ratios of a.m. and p.m. milking weights to daily milk yield (inverse yield ratios). Analysis of variance indicated that the milking interval is the most important source of variation for yield ratios. Adjustment factors for estimating daily milk yield from single milking weights were derived through regression analysis of direct and inverse yield ratios on the length of the milking interval. Daily milk yield was estimated more precisely and accurately when adjustment factors were used than when single milking weights were doubled. In conclusion, alternative recording of a.m. and p.m. milking weights led to reliable estimates of milk yields.
In this study, we propose a flow velocity evaluation scheme based on pressure measurement in pressurized pipeline systems. Conservation of mass and momentum equations can be decomposed into mean and perturbation of pressure head and flowrate, which provide the pressure head and flowrate relationship between upstream and donwstream point in pressurized pipeline system. The inverse impedance formulations were derived to address measured pressure at downstream to evaluation of flow velocity or pressure at any point of system. The convolution of response function to pressure head in downstream valve provides the flow velocity response in any point of the simple pipeline system. Simulation comparison between traditional method of characteristics and the proposed method provide good agreements between two distinct approaches.

In this Paper, a fuel minimizing closed loop explicit inertial guidance algorithm for orbit injection of a rocket is developed. In the formulation, the fuel burning rate and magnitude of thrust are assumed constant. The motion of rocket is assumed to be subject to the average inverse-square gravity, but negligible effects from atmosphere. The optimum thrust angle to obtain a given velocity vector in the shortest time with minimizing fuel consumption is first determined, and then the additive thrust angle for targeting the final position vector is determined by using Pontryagin's maximum principle. To establish real time processing, many algorithms of onboard guidance software are simplified. The explicit guidance algorithm is simulated on the 2nd-stage flight of the N-1 rocket developed in Japan. The results show that the explicit guidance algorithm works well in the presence of the maximum $\pm$10% initial velocity and altitude errors, and exhibits better performance than the open-loop program guidance. The effects of the guidance cycle time are also examined.

The fault cryptanalysis is a physical attack in which the key stored inside of the device can be extracted by occurring some faults when the device performs cryptographic algorithm. Since the international signature standard DSA(Digital Signature Algorithm) was known to be vulnerable to some fault analysis attacks, many researchers have been investigating the countermeasure to prevent these attacks. In this paper we propose a new countermeasure to compute DSA signature that has its immunity in the presence of faults. Since additional computational overhead of our proposal is only an inverse operation in signature process, the proposed DSA scheme can be implemented more efficiently compared to previous countermeasures.
It is the most important in small signal stability analysis of large scale Power systems to compute only the dominant eigenvalues selectively with numerical stability and efficiency. In this Paper evoluted linear analysis program, transformed state matrix using Inverse transformation with complex shift and then Hessenberg process and iterative scheme are used to accelerate Hessenberg process, can calculate dominant eigenvalues. In this Paper, The accuracy of this Program has been validated against 4-machines 11-bus system and New England 10-machines 39-bus system. Also applied to KEPCO system - about 791-bus 250-machines 2500-branches, got 2568 order state matrix, and calculated two dominant modes. This analysis result equaled to result of EPRI's SSSP program to use commonly, and calculating time is faster.
