  • With the increasing popularity of the wireless network, the vulnerability issue on IEEE 802.1x Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) are more serious than we expected. Security issues range from mis-configured wireless Access Point(AP) such as session hijacking to Denial of Service(DoS) attack. We propose a new system based on intrusion detection or prevention mechanism to protect the wireless network against these attacks. The proposed system has a security solution on AP that includes an intrusion detection and protection system(IDS/IPS) as an embedded module. In this paper, we suggest integrated wireless IDS/IPS module on AP with wireless traffic monitoring, analysis and packet filtering module against malicious wireless attacks. We also present that the system provides both enhanced security and performance such as on the university wireless campus network.

  • With the success of the digital economy and the rapid development of its technology, network security has received increasing attention. Intrusion detection technology has always been a focus and hotspot of research. A hybrid model that combines particle swarm optimization (PSO) and kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) is presented in this work. Continuous-valued PSO and binary PSO (BPSO) are adopted together to determine the parameter combination and the feature subset. A fitness function based on the detection rate and the number of selected features is proposed. The results show that the method can simultaneously determine the parameter values and select features. Furthermore, competitive or better accuracy can be obtained using approximately one quarter of the raw input features. Experiments proved that our method is slightly better than the genetic algorithm-based KELM model.

  • Nowadays, It is undeniable that the threat of network security is growing as time flows due to worldwide development of wire/wireless, various Internet platform and sophisticated hacking techniques. The amount of traffics that Network security solution has to handle is increasing and recently many occurrence of explosive traffic attacks from PulseWave are being observed which has many similar characteristics to New DDos. Medium and small sized firms abroad have developed and distributed Snort and Suricata that are based on open-source Intrusion Detection System(IDS) / Intrusion Prevention System (IPS). The goal of this study is to compare between Windows7 by applying suicata 4.0.0 32bit version and Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS by applying suicata 4.0.0 version which is an open source Intrusion Detection System / Intrusion Protection System that uses multi threads method. This experiment's environment was set as followed C1100 server model of Dell, Intel Xeon CPU L5520 2.27GHz*2 with 8 cores and 16 threads, 72GB of RAM, Samsung SSD 250GB*4 of HDD which was set on RAID0. According to the result, Suricata in Ubuntu is superior to Suricata in Windows7 in performance and this result indicates that Ubuntu's performance is far advanced than Windows7. This meaningful result is derived because Ubuntu that applied Suricata used multi core CPU and RAM more effectively.

  • Our paper describes an Intrusion Detection Parallel System(IDPS) which detects an anomaly activity corresponding to the actions that interaction between near detection events. IDES uses parallel inductive approaches regarding the problem of real-time anomaly behavior detection on rule-based system. This approach uses sequential rule that describes user's behavior and characteristics dependent on time. and that audits user's activities by using rule base as data base to store user's behavior pattern. When user's activity deviates significantly from expected behavior described in rule base. anomaly behaviors are recorded. Observed behavior is flagged as a potential intrusion if it deviates significantly from the expected behavior or if it triggers a rule in the parallel inductive system.

  • Intrusion protection system is a security system that stop abnormal traffics through automatic activity by finding out attack signatures in network. Unlike firewall or intrusion detection system that defends passively, it is a solution that stop the intrusion before intrusion warning. The security performance of intrusion protection system is influenced by security auditability, user data protection, security athentication, etc., and performance is influenced by detection time, throughput, attack prevention performance, etc. In this paper, we constructed a convergence performance evaluation model about software product evaluation to construct the model for security performance evaluation of intrusion protection system based on CC(Common Criteria : ISO/IEC 15408) and ISO international standard about software product evaluation.

  • Many information systems that provide useful services to people are connected to the Internet for convenience and efficiency. However, improper accessibility might make the systems susceptible to a variety of attacks. Although existing security solutions such as an intrusion detection system, intrusion prevention system, and firewalls have been designed to protect against such attacks, it is impossible to block all kinds of attacks. Furthermore, most of the proposed solutions require information about attacks for efficient prevention. Research on intrusion-tolerant systems (ITSs) have been conducted in order to continue providing proper services in threatening environments. The purpose of an ITS is to survive against every intrusion, rather than to prevent them. In this paper, previous studies on ITS are introduced and classified according to the centric scheme as middleware-based ITS, hardware-based ITS, and recovery-based ITS. Recent research focusing on adaptive transformation schemes is also introduced.

  • MANET has disadvantage for information intrusion caused from non-infra structure. That is based on mixed problems caused from terminal devices has no capability of various resources using abilities to run intrusion prevention function, and also from difficulty of no easy using infra structural server like as firewall. In this paper, transmission performances, be effected from information intrusion and IDS(Intrusion Detection System), are analyzed for large scale MANET, and weakness from information intrusion of MANET are studied. This study is for large scale MANET which has some large communication area and lots of nodes, voice traffic, based on VoIP protocols, is considered as application services be transmitted over MANETs. Computer simulation using NS-2 is used to measure and show MOS and call connection ratios.

  • It is very difficult to completely block the DDoS attack, which paralyzes services by depleting resources or occupying the network bandwidth by transmitting a vast amount of traffic to the specific website or server from normal users' PCs that have been already infected by an outside attacker. In order to defense or endure the DDoS attack, we usually use various solutions such as IDS (Intrusion Detection System), IPS (Intrusion Prevention System), ITS (Intrusion Tolerance System), FW (Firewall), and the dedicated security equipment against DDoS attack. However, diverse types of security appliances cause the cost problem, besides, the full function of the equipments are not performed well owing to the unproper setting without considering connectivity among systems. In this paper, we present the effective connectivity of security equipments and countermeasure methodology against DDoS attack. In practice, it is approved by experimentation that this designed methdology is better than existing network structure in the efficiency of block and endurance. Therefore, we would like to propose the effective security control measures responding and enduring against discriminated DDoS attacks through this research.

  • Recently, since the number of internet users is increasing rapidly and, by using the public hacking tools, general network users can intrude computer systems easily, the hacking problem is getting more serious. In order to prevent the intrusion, it is needed to detect the sign in advance of intrusion in a positive prevention by detecting the various foms of hackers' intrusion trials to know the vulnerability of systems. The existing network-based anomaly detection algorithms that cope with port- scanning and the network vulnerability scans have some weakness in intrusion detection. they can not detect slow scans and coordinated scans. therefore, the new concept of algorithm is needed to detect effectively the various forms of abnormal accesses for intrusion regardless of the intrusion methods. In this paper, SPAD(Session Pattern Anomaly Detector) is presented, which detects the abnormal service patterns by comparing them with the ordinary normal service patterns.
