  • This study aims to evaluate some academic institutional repositories (IRs) in Ghana. Data were collected using observation and interview methods by examining the various websites of seven (7) selected academic institutional repositories in Ghana. The findings revealed that the University of Ghana, Legon, leads records count of the seven Institutional Repository (IRs) examined. Dspace was the prioritized software for managing and preserving the digital contents of these IRs. Theses, dissertations and research articles were the leading contents deposited on the IRs. The majority of the IRs have incorporated RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) feeds on their IRs with few using other Web 2.0 features. English was the only interface language used on all the IRs. From the interview, the findings revealed that most of the faculty members did not use the IR very often and 9(42.9) also indicated that, they have never deposited their materials on the IR. Faculty members again indicated that, inadequate ICT connectivity and infrastructure, unreliable power supply, Copyrights and intellectual rights, financial constrain, inadequate advocacy and training on the importance of IRs to faculty and users were the major challenges of academic libraries in operating IRs in Ghana.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the impacts of a science gifted education program. 155 students who experienced the SNU science gifted education program were interviewed. The interview questions consisted of eligible questions from 'Interview Protocol of Hertzog' (2003) based on 'Recommended Practice in Gifted Education (Shore, Cornell, & Ward, 1991)'. All interviews were immediately transcribed and analyzed qualitatively. It was found that scientifically gifted students had similar concepts of the gifted to what scholars consider as the gifted. Comparing the programs to school education program, the students agreed that the science gifted education program provided more experiments opportunities, higher and deeper level of contents, and more active interactions. Regarding long-term effects, it was found that program influenced on students' decisions for the future, stimuli and expansion of horizons, school work and entrance examinations. Students gained self-confidence and became more interested in science. Some pointed out that they felt greater stimulated, although some indicated an elevated level of self conceit. Implications of science gifted education were found based on these results.

Recently, a number of methods for assessing the paraphilia are being developed gradually outside south Korea. And the reliability and validity of various assessment tools are being reported. The standardization of the assessments and questionnaires was not made yet. For assessment of paraphilia that has been reported from abroad, the author comprehensively organized clinical interview, physical examination, psycho-physiological methods, self-reporting scale of sexual thoughts, fantasies and attitudes and multiple self-reporting scale of sexual interests and described the clinical significance of the assessment tools. The national standardization of both self-reported questionnaire and physical evaluations is expected to be completed later.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of healing environments of the wards in women's hospitals. A evaluation checklist of the healing environment was applied to seven women's hospitals that have constructed or remodeled since 2000. The findings indicate that the comfort was well considered in most spaces, while the privacy and the nature-friendliness were insufficient. The lacks of balconies, terraces, landscapes, and water spaces for the nature-friendliness were also problematic. Among the patients' room, corridor, and patients' lounge, the lounge was the most negative in terms of healing environments. In order to improve the patients' privacy, soundproofing materials and buffer zones in the lounge should be considered. The future study needs to develop advanced survey and interview methodologies in order to support the relevant results.

  • In the last several decades of 20 century, the user oriented design concept has evolved in more concrete ways, producing POE and UPD(User Participated design). These concepts are ways of achieving the fit between built environments and human needs. These, technique in the digital world has implied and promoted lots of experimental ways to interact with possible users before the construction stages in the design process to reduce the results, stemming from ineffective planning and designing. The purpose of this paper is to show an evaluation technique in the design cycle. An actually designed child care facility was evaluated before construction by potential users. For this purpose, focused group interview was employed.

The first step was to estimate the contribution effect of the fabless small and medium venture business' sales. The step includes interview with all the CEOs of the firms under the support of the Enterprise Incubation System, The second step was to apply input-output analysis and then estimate the production inducement effect. The last step was to compare the results of estimation with the costs of the project. We have concluded this project had achieved 6.3 times greater economic effect compared to the budget. The reason for the large economic effect is that the project provided various infrastructures to the small and medium venture businesses.

  • The objectives of this study were to prove that the rural kitchen style followed the urban's style and to find the different needs of rural western kitchen style from urban's through the evaluation of users. Interview data were collected by 100 residents in Chonbuk rural area and were analyzed qualitatively and Quantitatively. The results showed that the westernization of rural kitchen, as predicted about 12 years ago, ran after the urban's. In addition to the urban kitchen style, the users of the rural western kitchen desired 'the second kitchen' near to their Ma-dangs and main kitchens. The safety, convenience and comfort of it were satisfactorily evaluated, especially the convenience factor was very important in the rural kitchen design. They also wanted to arrange the refrigerator for Kim-chi or the larger refrigerator in it and to plan the L-DK type.
