The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Microcomputer Based Laboratory (MBL) on the middle school students' graphing skill and science process skill in Earth Science classes. MBL teaching materials for inquiry-based instructions were developed to teach five experimental topics related to the middle school 'Earth Science.' Thirty three middles school students participated in this study, and the pre- and post-tests were conducted. Results indicated as follow: First, MBL classes were effective in developing the graphing skill of middle school students. They were efficient both in graph construction and graph interpretation, especially in data transformation. Second, MBL classes were effective in helping participants to use science process skills, especially, in the subordinate areas including formulating hypotheses, making operational definition, graphing, and interpreting data.
Purpose: This study evaluated the internal structure (structural validity, internal consistency, and measurement invariance) of the Health-Related Quality of Life Instrument with Eight Items (HINT-8), developed to measure Korean people's health-related quality of life. Methods: A secondary analysis was conducted using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, involving 6,167 adults aged over 18 years. The structural validity of the HINT-8 was assessed using exploratory graph analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency and measurement invariance were analyzed using McDonald's omega (ω) and multigroup confirmatory factor analysis, respectively. Results: The HINT-8 had a single dimension and good internal consistency (ω =.804). The one-dimension HINT-8 exhibited matric invariance but not scalar invariance across sociodemographic groups (sex, age, education, and marital status). Further, it exhibited scalar or partial scalar invariance across medical condition groups (hypertension, diabetes, depressive symptoms, and cancer). Conclusion: The study finds that the HINT-8 demonstrated satisfactory structural validity and internal consistency, indicating its suitability for practice and research. However, the HINT-8 scores cannot be compared across different groups regarding sex, age, education, and marital status, as the interpretation varies within each sociodemographic category. Conversely, interpretation of the HINT-8 is consistent for individuals with and without hypertension, diabetes, depressive symptom, and cancer.
This paper analyzes the artistic practical use of social network visualization through the aesthetic information interpretation. The first social network visualization has emerged as 'Sociogram' in the form of social network analysis(SNA). Since social network has complex, the analyzing technology of social network has emerged. Early social network visualization has a practical purpose to measure the social structure, but current social network visualization divided into various forms from artistic expressions through information. This paper divide into two categories based on the artistic application of social network visualization. First, this research focuses on the static graph based on analog. Second, this research analyze the category of interacted visualization to generate a real-time digital image. This paper presents the fusion of paradigm between engineering and art through this way.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the teaching of statistical graphs according to elementary mathematics curriculum. To do this, we set up three research questions as follows. First, what is the change in achievement standards related to the teaching of statistical graphs in elementary mathematics curriculum? Second, what is the change in the teaching of the drawing of statistical graphs in elementary mathematics curriculum? Third, what is the change in the teaching of understanding of statistical graphs in elementary mathematics curriculum? For the first research question, we analyzed the achievement standards related to the teaching of the statistics of the 2015 revised curriculum from the first curriculum. For the second research question, we analyzed how to provide students with the opportunity to draw graphs(number of drawings) and whether to present the basic frame of the graphs(frame provided). For the third research question, we analyzed questions in the textbooks based on the graph understanding; 'reading data', 'finding the relation between data', 'interpreting data', 'understanding the situation'. As a result of the analysis, the achievement standard in the curriculum has changed in the direction of fostering statistical thinking, and it has been changed to emphasize the interpretation of the graph so as to make the graph drawing easy. However, 'interpreting data' and 'understanding the situation' were still lacking.

Online product reviews are a vital source for companies in that they contain consumers' opinions of products. The earlier methods of opinion mining, which involve drawing semantic information from text, have been mostly applied in one dimension. This is not sufficient in itself to elicit reviewers' comprehensive views on products. In this paper, we propose a novel approach in opinion mining by projecting online consumers' reviews in a multidimensional framework to improve review interpretation of products. First of all, we set up a new framework consisting of six dimensions based on a marketing management theory. To calculate the distances of review sentences and each dimension, we embed words in reviews utilizing Google's pre-trained word2vector model. We classified each sentence of the reviews into the respective dimensions of our new framework. After the classification, we measured the sentiment degrees for each sentence. The results were plotted using a radar graph in which the axes are the dimensions of the framework. We tested the strategy on Amazon product reviews of the iPhone and Galaxy smartphone series with a total of around 21,000 sentences. The results showed that the radar graphs visually reflected several issues associated with the products. The proposed method is not for specific product categories. It can be generally applied for opinion mining on reviews of any product category.
A model study was conducted for the interpretation of simple geologic structures. Experiments were carried out for the cases of two horizontal beds and dipping beds in a water tank by using Wenner and Schlumberger arrays respectively. As a geologic stratum of experimental model, cement be (cement: sand=1:2) of $70cm{\times}60cm{\times}10cm$ was used. It was found out from a preliminary experiment that a measuring sounding of Wenner arrays is one third of the distance between two current electrodes, and Schlumberger arrays is one fourth of the distance which is a half of the value determined by usual method of calculation. Equi-resistivity curves were obtained for the cases of horizontal beds and dipping beds, and mapped on the longitudinal and cross sections of the water tank. These curves delineate the shape and degree of dip of bed to some extent. The calculation of depth to beds by using a master curve is somewhat complicated and inexact. In this study, new method for this calculation using a ${\rho}_a/{\rho}_1-a$ graph was proposed, and turned out that this method is simpler and exact.

This study examines the correlations of crime-prone locations with the urban space configuration in residential district. CPTED(Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) is applied to this study and it is intended to control the architectural environment in order to restrain criminal activities. For this reason, an objective analysis for explaining the spatial characteristics of the places where the crimes have occurred is more important than statistical and descriptive approach for analyzing the criminal data. Visibility graph analysis (VGA) supports the CPTED theory in this study for objective interpretation of crime-prone locations and quantitative analysis for built environment. The comparative analysis on object streets and areas are used and the results are followings. The analysis by streets showed that street crimes are correlated with connectivity, control, integration, and integration(r=3) and burglary cases are correlated with control. The analysis by areas showed that street crimes are correlated with connectivity and integration. The T-tests results of crime area and whole area showed that street crimes are correlated with integration and burglary cases have negative correlation with connectivity. Several localized environmental design for crime prevention are also proposed on the basis of this study.

In this paper we proposed dynamic adaptive model based on discrete probabilistic distribution functions and user's profile for web media systems(web based hypermedia systems). The model represented that the application domain is modelled using a weighted direct graph and the user's behaviour is modelled using a probabilistic approach that dynamically constructs a discrete probability distribution functions. The proposed probabilistic interpretation of the web media structure is used to characterize latent properties of the user's behaviour, which can be captured by tracking user's browsing activity. Using that distribution the system attempts to assign the user to the best profile that fits user's expectations.
This study was conducted to present the stylistic differences between Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie, famous as writers of classical mystery novels, through data analysis, and further to present the analytical methodology of the study of style based on text mining. The reason why we chose mystery novels for our research is because the unique devices that exist in classical mystery novels have strong stylistic characteristics, and furthermore, by choosing Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie, who are also famous to the general reader, as subjects of analysis, so that people who are unfamiliar with the research can be familiar with them. The primary objective of this study is to identify how the differences exist within the text and to interpret the effects of these differences on the reader. Accordingly, in addition to events and characters, which are key elements of mystery novels, the writer's grammatical style of writing was defined in style and attempted to analyze it. Two series and four books were selected by each writer, and the text was divided into sentences to secure data. After measuring and granting the emotional score according to each sentence, the emotions of the page progress were visualized as a graph, and the trend of the event progress in the novel was identified under eight themes by applying Topic modeling according to the page. By organizing co-occurrence matrices and performing network analysis, we were able to visually see changes in relationships between people as events progressed. In addition, the entire sentence was divided into a grammatical system based on a total of six types of writing style to identify differences between writers and between works. This enabled us to identify not only the general grammatical writing style of the author, but also the inherent stylistic characteristics in their unconsciousness, and to interpret the effects of these characteristics on the reader. This series of research processes can help to understand the context of the entire text based on a defined understanding of the style, and furthermore, by integrating previously individually conducted stylistic studies. This prior understanding can also contribute to discovering and clarifying the existence of text in unstructured data, including online text. This could help enable more accurate recognition of emotions and delivery of commands on an interactive artificial intelligence platform that currently converts voice into natural language. In the face of increasing attempts to analyze online texts, including New Media, in many ways and discover social phenomena and managerial values, it is expected to contribute to more meaningful online text analysis and semantic interpretation through the links to these studies. However, the fact that the analysis data used in this study are two or four books by author can be considered as a limitation in that the data analysis was not attempted in sufficient quantities. The application of the writing characteristics applied to the Korean text even though it was an English text also could be limitation. The more diverse stylistic characteristics were limited to six, and the less likely interpretation was also considered as a limitation. In addition, it is also regrettable that the research was conducted by analyzing classical mystery novels rather than text that is commonly used today, and that various classical mystery novel writers were not compared. Subsequent research will attempt to increase the diversity of interpretations by taking into account a wider variety of grammatical systems and stylistic structures and will also be applied to the current frequently used online text analysis to assess the potential for interpretation. It is expected that this will enable the interpretation and definition of the specific structure of the style and that various usability can be considered.
Investigation of the students' mathematical misconceptions is very important for improvement in the school mathematics teach]ng and basis of curriculum. In this study, we categorize second-grade middle school students' misconceptions on the learning of linear function and make a comparative study of the error-remedial effect of students' collaborative learning vs explanatory leaching. We also investigate how to change and advance students' self-diagnosis and treatment of the milton ceptions through the collaborative learning about linear function. The result of the study shows that there are three main kinds of students' misconceptions in algebraic setting like this: (1) linear function misconception in relation with number concept, (2) misconception of the variables, (3) tenacity of specific perspective. Types of misconception in graphical setting are classified into misconception of graph Interpretation and prediction and that of variables as the objects of function. Two different remedies have a distinctive effect on treatment of the students' misconception under the each category. We also find that a misconception can develop into a correct conception as a result of interaction with other students.
