  • Customers purchasing souvenir T-shirts in famous tourist sites in Korea are mainly foreigners. Nevertheless, these T-shirts are manufactures according to Koreans' body shapes or manufactures' own size system. Moreover, sizes are labelled only by domestic norms. The purpose of this study is to suggest global standardized size for T-shirts, which will provide more precise size information for customers. For this, sizing standards including KS, ASTM, JIS, and EN were surveyed and were compared. And souvenir T-shirts were collected in the tourist resort and the sizing systems and labels were analysed from them. Finally, we proposed a sizing system and labelling as an international standard for souvenir T-shirts.

  • This study attempts to examine family attitudes and gender role divisions of married women in contemporary Vietnam and Korea. Drawing data from the 2003 Vietnam Family Study and the 2005 Korean Marriage and Fertility Study, this study investigated 1) attitudes of married women toward marriage, cohabitation, divorce, and having children, 2) decision making on household expenditures, and 3) household work division between husband and wife. The results showed that married Korean women were less inclined toward traditional family attitudes regarding marriage and children than married Vietnamese women. Decision on routine household expenditures was made and household work was done mostly by the wife in the two countries. In comparison, married Vietnamese men took more responsibilities for important financial decisions and child education than married Korean men. These overall findings imply that patriarchical family and gender role norms were preserved to larger extent in contemporary Vietnam than in Korea.

  • This paper attempts to demonstrate how the linguistic and mythological features of the shamanic language make it incantatory, or ′enchanting′. Passages used in shamanic rites manifest linguistic characteristics that point to their own norms and conventions, as well as some mythological features that contribute to the undecipherablity of the shamanic language. Focusing on the estranged linguistic and mythological features, I propose that shamanic languages can be best interpreted in terms of the linguistic hierarchization, a notion that has been developed since Roman Jakobson′s poetics. The present study adopts Eisele′s framework that reinterprets Jakobsonian hierarchization into a slightly revised notion on the basis of the "degree of combinatorial freedom" and the "degree of semantic immediacy", looking into a set of paradigm examples in search of some parallel structures characterizing the shamanic language. The enchanting effect of this peculiar form of language, it is argued, is due mostly to the frequent use of lexical parallelism, which works in the reverse direction of the normal process of interpretation.

  • The $H_{\infty}$ entropy in $H_{\infty}$ control theory is discussed based on investigating information transmission in continuous-time linear stochastic systems. It is proved that the stabilizing feedback does not change the time-average information transmission between system input and output, and the $H_{\infty}$ entropies of open- and closed-loop stable transfer functions are bounded by mutual information rate between input and output in the open-loop system. Furthermore, a new $H_2$ upper bound for $H_{\infty}$ entropy is introduced with a numerical example. Thus the $H_{\infty}$ entropy of a stable transfer function is sandwiched between $H_2$ norms of the original system and a static feedback system.

  • The study aims to investigate the factors pursuing the women entrepreneurs to accept Islamic microfinance (IMF) in urban and rural areas of Malaysia. For this purpose, the study applies the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Innovation and Diffusion Theory to explain Islamic microfinance adoption. Using the structural equation model (SEM) with primary data collected from 384-woman entrepreneurs in Malaysia, the current study uses a 5-point Likert scale. On the basis of theory and collected data, the seven hypotheses are developed. All hypotheses are validated by both directly and indirectly, as well as through a mediating factor. Among the factors, knowledge about IMF and subjective norms significantly influence the acceptance of IMF. On the other hand, the perceived complexity does not show any substantial relationship to the acceptance of IMF. This outcome will be helpful in supporting policymakers, academics, and future studies and must take into account the supported factors. Therefore, the study contributes to develop an innovative framework, to create self-employment for women entrepreneurs.

  • Globalization brings changes to universities in particular facilitating internationalizing students exchange and curriculum diversification. Such efforts are relatively weak in education college even though the demands are high in students' global learning expectations internally and educational development cooperation from developing countries. The demands of global education arise from the increase of multi-cultural family, the compelling foreign language proficiency and others. The demands of development cooperation arise from the contribution of education to the rapid economic development. However, Korean participation focuses on vocational training which is far from the international norm of basic education provision and carried out without enough educational specialists. Global education and teaching practices in developing countries would substantiate the internationalization of education college while the effectiveness of educational development cooperation would be enhanced after learning the international norms and local knowledge which are learnt from the global education including foreign school practices.

  • With the rapid advancement of digital technology, unmanned store services are on the rise, yet studies investigating their impact on customer satisfaction are scarce. This study aims to explore how unmanned store services affect customer satisfaction, focusing on the factors of risk and benefit. The methodology involved an online survey conducted from December 20 to December 30, 2023, targeting 260 customers who had used unmanned store self-service at least once, with 252 responses ultimately analyzed. The results reveal that the risk and benefit factors of unmanned store self-services complexly and diversely influence subjective norms and perceived control. Firstly, personal information breaches positively affected subjective norms, while overload and uncertainty had negative impacts. Secondly, while convenience negatively influenced subjective norms, playfulness and usefulness had positive effects. However, personal breaches and overload did not affect perceived control, whereas uncertainty did negatively. The findings of this study provide significant insights into how successful implementation and management of unmanned store self-services can regulate social expectations and control perception of customers, thereby enhancing customer satisfaction.

  • Despite international cooperation, piracy has not yet been eradicated in major waters around the world. From the perspective of South Korea, which is absolutely dependent on exporting and importing, it's a lifeline for us to secure safe maritime traffic so it is a situation we have to be vigilant about maritime safety and security. However, criminal law on punishment of piracy is still insufficient and legislative consideration is needed. Since pirates are regarded as enemies of humankind, all nations can punish pirates regardless of their damage. The international community has done its best in cooperation from hundreds of years ago to secure maritime trade through this universal jurisdiction and marine transportation in international waters which is an essential space for military activities, particularly in the Gulf of Aden, the advanced nations have dispatched fleets to combat maritime security threats through joint operations to crack down on Somali pirates. Even if universal jurisdiction is allowed for piracy in accordance with the International Convention on Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, it is difficult to effectively deal with piracy if it not fully complied with a domestic legal system for this purpose or is stipulated as different from international regulations. In other words, universal jurisdiction corresponding to international norms and constitution of piracy should be defined in criminal law in accordance with criminal statutory law. If the punishment of pirates by unreasonably applying our criminal law without prejudice to such work can lead to diplomatic disputes in violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or other international norms. In South Korea, there is no provision to explicitly prescribe piracy as a crime, but punish similar acts like piracy in criminal law and maritime safety law. However, there is a limit to effective piracy punishment because we are not fully involved in internationally accepted piracy. In this study, we critically examine the proposals of the constitutional elements of piracy, propose the legislative direction, and insist on the introduction of globalism to pirate sins.

  • Online-ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) has been receiving attention from the international community as a means of alternative dispute resolution for consumer disputes in both small and mass international e-commerce. The EU Parliament and the Council proposed the Online Dispute Resolution Regulation for Consumer Disputes (hereafter, "EU Consumer ODR Regulation") and the Directive on Alternative Dispute Resolution of Consumer Disputes (hereafter, "EU Consumer ADR Directive") as a legislative package, now scheduled to be adopted. Those efforts strengthen consumer protection by enhancing ODR in international e-commerce and improving of the functions of the e-commerce market. The EU Consumer ADR and ODR regulation package will operate in conjunction with the ODR platform as a single point across Europe, abandoning the ADR system of each member. Consumers and traders who need dispute resolution apply on the EU ODR platform linked website, and the applications are distributed to individual ADR institutions in accordance with the Rules and Procedure of ADR institutions in the respective country. Although there has been partial progress in Korea for ODR programs such as the establishment of the Online Administrative Trial and the procedures of individual ADR agencies operating through the website, existing norms do not fully support the system. At this point, we see many implications of the EU Consumer ADR and ODR regulation package on the direction chosen for domestic ADR and ODR policy and legislation. This study introduces the main features and content of the EU Consumer ADR Directive (draft) and ODR Regulation provisions, and describes the direction of domestic policy and legislation regarding Online-ADR.
