  • Team project learning is a type of Project-Based Learning, which is an effective learning method for developing collaborative competency and interpersonal communication skills, as well as for developing cognitive competency such as critical thinking, creative thinking, and analytical skills. This research, conducted to analyze learning activities, focuses on students' creative thinking and activities in TPBL(Team Project-Based Learning). A qualitative approach including a reflective journal based on the 6 stages of TPBL, was adopted for this purpose. In this study, 69 reflective journals on the three stages (developing a theme, researching, theme-making) of 23 undergraduate students were categorized on the basis of three criteria: divergent thinking factors, convergent thinking factors and affective factors. The results show that the participants' journals demonstrated twenty-eight activities from nine cognitive factors and nine activities from three affective factors were derived from reflect journal. This finding indicates that more appropriate instructional strategies are needed for students to enhance their creative thinking skills and activities

  • Text data mining ('big data methods') is one of the most widely used approaches during the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, text data mining on Scopus databases or Web of Science (WoS). Text data mining is widely used to collect literature for later bibliometric analysis, and in the end, it becomes a literature review article. Therefore, in this article, we reveal the trend of publication of literature reviews in Scopus journals from Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia. This article describes two essential parts, namely 1) a comparison of international publication trends and subject area of literature review publications, and 2) a comparison of Top 5 for Authors, Affiliation, Source Title, and Collaboration Country.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the approaches, methods and questions asked in intensive care unit studies published in Korean journals and the American Journal of Critical Care (AJCC) from 1992 to 2011. Only quantitative studies were reviewed. Methods: A total of 144 studies published in four Korean Journals and 521 studies published in American Journal of Critical Care (AJCC) were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The most frequently used research design reported in Korean journals were surveys (83.5%), protocol development (10.1%), and randomized controlled trials (6.2%). In AJCC, the most frequently reported design was survey research (90.4%) and randomized controlled trials (16.1%). The most frequent nursing intervention reported in the AJCC was tube care (10.8%), and in Korean journals the intervention of suctioning (10.8%). In Korea, nurses were more likely to study instrument measurements (31.0%) and positioning (13.5%). In reported studies in the AJCC there were more reports on emotional support, exercise, and measurement research. Conclusion: There is overlap in the type of studies between the two countries in term of study design, whereas the types of nursing problems studied differed in United States and Korea. The result suggests that there were gaps and those more diverse studies and physiological measurements are needed.

  • Background : The promotion and advertisement of pharmaceuticals should be based on evidence from clinical trials. We conducted this study to assess whether the pharmaceutical advertisement claims in Korean medical journals had relevant references, and whether the claims were supported by the references. Methods : We reviewed pharmaceutical advertisements in five Korean medical journals issued during the first half of 1999 and during the first half of 2004. Three investigators independently reviewed the advertisements to see whether the studies quoted to endorse the advertising messages supported the corresponding claims. Using multiple logistic regression analyses, we investigated which factors were associated with the quality of the advertisement claims. Results : From the 550 advertisements in the five journals, we identified 157 different advertisements and 475 different promotional claims. Only 149 claims had at least one reference, and 105 claims had references of published article. We could find supporting evidences in the 90 claims. The factors which were associated with the quality of advertisement claims were category of drugs, category of claims, and the manufacturer characteristics. Claims for cardiovascular and endocrine drugs, and claims on efficacy, and claims of multinational company were more evidence-based. Conclusion : Majority of the pharmaceutical advertisement claims in Korea did not have appropriate references. Drug category, claim category, and the manufacturer characteristics were associated with the quality of advertisement claims, and the manufacturer characteristics was the most important determinants.

  • Since core scholarly journals have been digitalized, license contracts for e-resources have been dramatically increased. Librarians have had difficulties in understanding various and complex license models that are proposed by publishers in a period of time. The standardization of license models for journals have been more in demand and standard model license for journals have been developed by librarians, publishers, consortia and the third party. In this study, we explain the development of the standard license model of KESLI consortium.(hereafter, KESLI model) The availability of KESLI model has been analyzed by comparing with established standard license models. As a result, KESLI model is proved to be adopted and used in a practical contract process of e-journals through consortium.

  • Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been recognized effective as primary or secondary treatments for major psychiatric disorders including depression and schizophrenia, as well as psychiatric emergency such as suicide, food refusal and catatonia, and so on. Medicines used in anesthetic induction for ECT, cause various reactions in autonomous, hemodynamic, and neuromuscular systems. The anesthetics also affect the duration, threshold, and intensity of seizures evoked with electric stimuli, and thus modify the seizure quality in ECT. Individual characteristics of age, sex, weight, comorbid physical disorders, and medications should also be considered for optimal clinical response after ECT. When preparing for anesthesia, adequate anesthetic agents and muscle relaxants, and rapid recovery should be carefully considered. We conducted a case-series study to address practical issues that are frequently encountered during ECT anesthesia with reviews of updated journals in order to provide practical helps to clinicians who are preparing ECT for their patients.

  • This study used the Unpaywall API, one of the open tools to track the OA version, to empirically identify the OA of 3,905 papers that have been published by Korean corresponding authors since 2015 in international journals. As a result, the following facts were found. First, less than 30% of papers have been open accessed, and more than half of them were bronze OA. Secondly, the archiving site of the Green OA papers was found not to be domestic but mainly subject repositories or institutional repositories of overseas universities to which co-authors belong. Third, only 19.6% of research fund granted papers were open accessed and half of them were in the medical field. In contrast to the international trends in which the OA papers showed higher citations, the analyzed OA papers showed no higher citations than the non-OA papers.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends in domestic and international gifted education in the last six years (2010-2015) by utilizing social network analysis methods. For papers of gifted education in Korea, two KCI (Korea Citation Index) rated journals, the 'Gifted/Talented Education' (The Korean Society for the Gifted) and 'Gifted and Talented Education' (The Korean Society for the Gifted and Talented Education) were selected and 457 pieces published in two journals were collected. The papers of 347 published in SSCI rated journals, 'The Gifted Child Quarterly,' 'Journal for the Education of the Gifted,' and 'High Ability Studies' were selected. English keywords were extracted from 457 papers from Korean journals and 347 papers from foreign journals and the Social Network Analysis (SNA) way was utilized for keyword frequency and central network analyses. It was appeared that the trends of paper keywords from domestic and foreign countries showed common keywords, 'academically gifted', 'science gifted', and 'gifted' as center keyword frequency, and keywords, 'achievement', 'identification', 'intelligence' appeared as the most frequent ones. For domestic papers, keywords, 'creativity', 'gifted education', and 'gifted education teacher' were the highest frequent keywords while keywords, 'foreign countries', and 'student attitudes' were most frequent ones for the foreign countries. For the analysis of papers from five journals as one group, it was found that keywords, 'identification', 'intelligence', and 'achievement' were the most important common ones and keywords, 'cognitive', 'motivation', and 'self-concept' were appeared as important keywords. The trend of gifted education in Korea seems to be different from ones of foreign countries, domestic papers of gifted education rarely included keywords of 'foreign examples', 'student attitudes', and 'gender differences.' Consequently, the trend of gifted education in Korea called for various research perspectives.

  • This study collected data on COVID-19 research papers published in international journals by Korean authors from WoS. Bibliographical analysis was performed on subject categories, institutions, funder distribution and so on. In addition, open access and journal review speed were also analyzed, which play an important role in facilitating academic publishing and distribution. The results showed that COVID-19-related papers published in international journals by Korean authors in 2020 included more papers on some specific fields, such as medicine, biology, and multidisciplinary. These researchers have published lots of papers not only in foreign journals but also in domestic English journals. 94% of papers were open access, and gold open access, which is available immediately after publication, was about 70% of the total. The COVID-19 orthopedic papers produced by Korean researchers were collected from PubMed and analyzed, and the average of review days was about 24 days. The analysis, including open access and review speed, showed that there has been an atmosphere of cooperation in the academic publishing ecosystem after the COVID-19 crisis. It would be desirable to continue this cooperation and address chronic problems in academic publishing system, such as promoting the publication of gold open access and reviewing efficiency.

  • Today the regulation of socio-economic development has been the subject of active scientific debate. The modern paradigm of regulatory policy in foreign countries involves a change in the role and strategy of the state, which determines the relevance of this topic. The aim of the article is to study the current state of regulatory policy research. The article is based on a bibliographic analysis of the study of regulatory policy. The study is based on the data search functions of the Scopus platform. It uses a set of VOSviewer program, online visualization of keywords in the titles of scientific journals and citations of publications. The study led to the conclusion that the number of publications that directly study the nature and features of regulatory policy is insignificant, but constantly growing. In our opinion, further research should determine the essence of regulatory policy as a separate category, a description of its features and factors of formation. It is also necessary to develop a common concept that governments should be actively involved in ensuring the quality of regulation, rather than responding to the shortcomings of regulation, which is evolving into regulatory governance.
