We performed thermal and structural analyses to evaluate the structural integrity of a semi-metal gasket for a flange with increases in the internal fluid temperature and pressure using a commercial FEA program. As a thermal analysis result, the temperature distribution of the gasket body increased with an increase in the internal fluid temperature until the maximum fluid temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. In addition, the structural analysis showed that contact pressures of more than 35 MPa occurred uniformly in the graphite seal regions. It was found that no fluid leakage occurred under the load conditions for the structural analysis because the contact pressure in the graphite seal region was greater than the maximum internal fluid pressure of 35 MPa. Therefore, we demonstrated the structural integrity of the semi-metal gasket by performing the thermal and structure analyses under the maximum fluid temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ and the internal fluid pressure of 35 MPa.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the internal structure of the impinged diesel spray at various experimental conditions. To examine the effect of various factors on the development of a diesel spray impinging on the wall, experiments were conducted at the various Injection pressures, wall distances from the nozzle tip and angles of wall inclination. The PIV system consists of a double pulsed Nd:YAG laser was utilized to analyze the internal flow structure of impinged diesel sprays. The velocity fields from the PIV system were compared with the results measured by the phase Doppler particle analyzer(PDPA)system. The results show that internal flow pattern of the impinged spray was similar with the results from the PDPA system. The radial velocity of the impinged spray was increased with the increase in the injection pressure and near the nozzle-wall distance. The generation of vortex was also promoted with the Increase in angles of wall inclination.
The coupled hydro-mechanical loading conditions commonly occur in the geothermal and petroleum engineering projects, which is significantly important influence on the stability of rock masses. In this article, the influence of flaw inclination angle of fracture behaviors in rock-like materials subjected to both mechanical loads and internal hydraulic pressures is experimentally studied using the 3-D X-ray computed tomography combined with 3-D reconstruction techniques. Triaxial compression experiments under confining pressure of 8.0 MPa are first conducted for intact rock-like specimens using a rock mechanics testing system. Four pre-flawed rock-like specimens containing a single open flaw with different inclination angle under the coupled hydro-mechanical loading conditions are carried out. Then, the broken pre-flawed rock-like specimens are analyzed using a 3-D X-ray computed tomography (CT) scanning system. Subsequently, the internal damage behaviors of failed pre-flawed rock-like specimens are evaluated by the 3-D reconstruction techniques, according to the horizontal and vertical cross-sectional CT images. The present experimental does not only focus on the mechanical responses, but also pays attentions to the internal fracture characteristics of rock-like materials under the coupled hydro-mechanical loading conditions. The conclusion remarks are significant for predicting the rock instability in geothermal and unconventional petroleum engineering.
Film boiling may lead to burnout of the heating element. Even though burnout does not occur, the heating element is subject to deformation because it is not sufficiently strong to withstand external loads. In particular, the ballooning and rupture of a tube under film boiling are important phenomena in the field of nuclear reactor safety. If the tube-type cladding of nuclear fuel ruptures owing to high internal pressure and thermal load, radioactive materials inside the cladding are released to the coolant. Therefore, predicting the ballooning and rupture is important. This study presents numerical simulations to predict the ballooning behavior and rupture time of a horizontal tube at high internal pressure under saturated film boiling. To do so, a multi-step coupled simulation of conjugated film boiling heat transfer and ballooning using creep model is adopted. The numerical methods and models are validated against experimental values. Two different nonuniform heat flux distributions and four different internal pressures are considered. The three-step simulation is enough to obtain a convergent result. However, the single-step simulation also successfully predicts the rupture time. This is because the film boiling heat transfer characteristics are slightly affected by the tube geometry related to creep ballooning.
This study examines the roles of intangible and tangible resources of Korean business groups on internationalization by their member firms. Specifically, we argue that not all affiliates receive same benefit from group-level resource sharing. Instead, the effect of group-level knowledge sharing on affiliates' internationalization depends on individual affiliates' relative financial positions within a business group. Using samples of business groups in Korea, chaebols, hereafter chaebols, we find that foreign market knowledge at the group level has a positive impact on the internationalization of affiliated firms while the product knowledge has no impact. Furthermore, we also find evidences that an affiliate with high level of financial capacity receives internal pressures to stay in domestic market to secure internal capital market and support other sister affiliates' international activities.
The Dynamic Behavior in line contacts between the vane tip and camring in an oil hydraulic vane pump with intravanes has been investigated. Variations of the radial acting force of a vane were calculated from previously measured results of dynamic infernal pressure in four chambers surrounding a vane, and variations of the behavior were estimated in both the rotational speed range from 1200 to 2700 rpm and in the delivery pressure range from 10 to 21Mpa. The results indicate the variations of the radial acting force. Under the standard operating condition (to 14 Mpa, 1800 rpm), the radial acting force on the vane is governed by internal dynamic pressures, but it is more influenced by rotating speed at higher than 2000 rpm relatively.

The use of blast hardened bulkheads (BHBs) is an effective vulnerability hardening technique for improving the survivability of naval warships when internal explosions occur due to being shot by an anti-surface missile. In this paper, a new concept of BHBs reinforced by aluminum (Al) foam is proposed. The new concept can significantly reduce the blast pressures transferred to bulkheads and, unlike conventional BHBs, can be easily installed to operating naval warships. Chamber model blast tests were performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Al-foam BHBs and the results are further supported by numerical simulations. Finally, a practical preliminary is proposed for the Al-foam BHBs.
In the present paper, the sloshing flow in the liquid holds of a large tanker is simulated using a numerical method. In the fluid domain, the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation with free surface is solved using a finite difference method, and the realistic shapes of multi holds are modeled including the internal members. The time-history of the tank motion is obtained using a time-domain program for ship motion. In order to computer the impulsive pressures on internal structures, a concept of buffer zone is adopted near the tank ceiling during impact occurrence. This study demonstrates that the global fluid motion in the multi liquid holds of ships and FPSO's can be simulated using the numerical method and the corresponding local pressure can be predicted with reasonable accuracy.

In this research paper a hydraulic valve meter for the measurement of water pressure in fields was designed by using three dimensional automatic design program CATIA. And, also computational fluid dynamics was applied to the designed hydraulic valve meter in order to obtain flow distributions due to internal pressures. This analytical results will be provided as fundamental data in the development of new concepts of hydraulic valve meter and the hydraulic valve meter in development may reduce valve checking times and improve safety by preventing accidents earlier.
The interaction of cracks and water significantly affects the fracture mechanism of rocks. In this study, laboratory tests were conducted using sandstone samples containing a single fissure to explore the hydro-mechanical behaviors in the failure process of pre-cracked rocks. The internal crack characteristics were also analyzed using X-ray CT scanning. The results show that the confining pressure has the greatest effect on the mechanical properties (e.g., strengths, elastic modulus, and Poisson's ratio), followed by the fissure inclination and water pressure. At a lower fissure inclination, the confining pressure may control the type main cracks that form, and an increase in the water pressure increases the number of anti-wing cracks and the length of wing cracks and branch cracks. However, the fracture behaviors of samples with a higher fissure inclination are only slightly affected by the confining pressures and water pressures. The effect of fissure inclination on the internal crack area is reduced with the propagation from the fissure tips to the sample ends. The fissure inclination mainly affects the value of permeability but not affect the trend. The impact of pre-existing fissure on permeability is smaller than that of confining pressure and water pressure.
