  • Natural ventilation through openings such as windows in school buildings is an efficient resource for natural cooling during the intermediate season of the year. Because the natural ventilation uses the wind outside the building, the amount of ventilation will depend not only on the wind speed and wind direction but also on the window layout and open window ratio. Therefore, in this study, the natural ventilation plans of school classroom windows are divided into 4 types and 8 cases as shown in Table 1. The characteristics of cooling effect by natural ventilation are simulated by applying Energyplus's Airflow Network Model and the comfort of the occupants is evaluated by the number of hours included in the 80% acceptability range of the ASHRAE Standard 55-2010 adaptive comfort model for the weekdays (Monday-Friday) and the class hours (08: 00-19: 00). Based on the analysis results of the above, this study presents basic data related to classroom cooling plan using intermediate season natural ventilation.

  • The problem with intermetallics coating using the heat of molten casting is that the heat generated during combustion synthesis dissolves the coating and the substrate metal. This study investigates whether pre-annealing before synthesis can control the reaction heat, with the aim of Ni3Al coating on the casting surface. Therefore, the effects of the annealing temperature and time on the combustion synthesis behavior of the powder compact of Ni-25at%Al after annealing were investigated. As results, the reaction heat when synthesized decreased as the annealing temperature was high and the annealing time was longer. This was attributed to the fact that Al was diffused to Ni particles during low temperature annealing and intermediate Ni-Al compounds were formed during high temperature annealing. After combustion synthesis, however, it was found that their microstructures were almost identical except for the amount of intermediate intermetallics. Furthermore, an annealing temperature above 450℃, at which intermediate compounds begin to form, is needed to prevent the dissolving problem during synthesizing. The intermetallics synthesized after annealing at higher temperature and prolonger annealing time showed a good wear resistance. This might be because much intermediate intermetallics of high hardness were remained in the microstructure.

  • We conducted phylogenetic analyses using multiplexed inter-simple sequence repeat genotyping by sequencing and compared chloroplast DNA sequences among Ardisia japonica, A. pusilla, and morphologically intermediate plants found on Jeju Island, Korea. Our network analysis demonstrated that the intermediate plants were genetically positioned between A. japonica and A. pusilla. Our comparison of the intergenic spacer between the psbA and trnH genes in chloroplast DNA indicated that four nucleotide substitutions separate A. japonica and A. pusilla, whereas the intermediate plants exhibited the A. japonica haplotype. Our results suggest that the intermediate plants on Jeju Island represent a natural hybrid of A. japonica, as the maternal species, and A. pusilla, and that they are attributable to Ardisia×walkeri. This record constitutes the first documented occurrence of the hybrid taxon in Korea.

  • In this paper, we present an algorithm for synthesizing intermediate views from a stereoscopic pair of images. Syntheses of intermediate images allows one to realize a more comfortable the 3D display system. The proposed method is based on block matching, which is not ordinarily used. The contour information is used for a block decision. In order to find an equivalent (or corresponding) block, there are two steps: "matching of contour-to-original image" and "matching of contour-to-contour image" methods. "Matching of contour-to-contour image" uses both left and right contour images. This block matching method allows us to find the corresponding block in spite of different block sizes. Experimental results illustrate the performance of the proposed technique and we obtained a high quality image of more than 31 dB PSNR.image of more than 31 dB PSNR.

  • The interrelation of secondary defects, intermediate S' phase and aging condition in Al-2.0 wt% Cu-1.1 wt% Mg alloy is studied by transmission electron microscope. The results obtained in this study are as follows. 1. High density of dislocation loops, helices and stacking faults are observed in this specimen with aging treatment. 2. The number of dislocation loops and the width of loop free zone (LFZ) are increased with aging time. 3. The intermediate S' phase precipitates and grows on the dislocations and secondary defects. 4. The misfit dislocations are formed around intermediate S' phase. 5. It is thought that the helices appear to be produced by the climb of screw dislocations, while the dislocation loops appear to be formed both by condensation of vacancies into collapsed discs and by interaction of helices with screw of opposite sign.

  • The intermediate product resulting from the radical degradation experiment of PCE and the atomic charge gained through Gaussian03W were compared against each other. The result was that the ratio of PCE radical degradation was almost 98% or higher after the 9 hr point in reaction time. The reaction speed constant was $0.16hr^{-1}$ and it followed the first reaction. We could see that at each location of the PCE molecule, dechlorination happened at a point where the negative atomic charge was the greatest. Moreover, the intermediate product of PCE radical degradation that was confirmed in the experiment and literature coincided exactly with the intermediate product in the atomic charge calculation. Therefore, when the atomic charge is calculated, the radical degradation pathway of the organic chlorine compound could be forecast.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a method of the sensitivity analysis that can be applied to a non-tree solution of the minimum cost flow problem. First, we introduce two types of sensitivity analysis. A sensitivity analysis of Type 1a is the well known method applicable to a tree solution. However this method can not be applied to a non-tree solution. So we propose a sensitivity analysis of Type 2 that keeps solutions of upper bounds at upper bounds, those of lower bounds at lower bounds, and those of intermediate values at intermediate values. For the cost coefficient we present a method that the sensitivity analysis of Type 2 is solved by finding the shortest path. Besides we also show that the results of Type 2 and Type 1 are the same in a spanning tree solution. For the right-hand side constant or the capacity, the sensitivity analysis of Type 2 is solved by a simple calculation using arcs with intermediate values.

  • Kim & Beuermann (1995, 1996)have developed a model for the propagation of X-rays from the accreting white dwarfthrough the infalling material and the re-emission of the energy deposited by photo-absorption in the optical (and UV) spectral range. By using this model, we calculate the profiles of the $H_{\gamma}$ emission-line spectrum of intermediate polars. Photoabsorption of X-ray by the infalling material is the dominant process in forming the observed energy-dependent rotational modulation of the X-ray flux. X-ray and optical modulations are sensitive to model parameters in different ways. In principle, these dependencies allow us to obtain improved insight into the accretion geometry of the intermediate polars. We present results of our calculations and compare them with the $H{\beta}$ line spectrum(Kim & Beuermann 1996).

  • The degradation characteristics of TCE by Ferrate(VI) oxidation have been studied. The degradation efficiency of TCE in aqueous solution was investigated at various pH values, Ferrate(VI) doses, initial concentrations of TCE and aqueous solution temperature values. GC-ECD was used to analyze TCE. The optimum conditions of TCE degradation were obtained pH 7.0 and $25^{\circ}C$ in aqueous solution. Also, the experimental results showed that TCE removal efficiency increased with the decrease of initial concentration of TCE. And intermediate products were identified by GC-MS techniques. Ethyl Chloride, Chloroform, Ethylene, 1,2-dichloroethane and 1,1,2-trichloroethane were identified as a reaction intermediate, and $Cl^-$ was identified as an end product.
