  • This study proposes a novel zero voltage transition (ZVT) pulse width modulation (PWM) DC-DC interleaved boost converter with an active snubber cell. All the semiconductor devices in the converter turn on and off with soft switching to reduce the switching power losses and improve the overall efficiency. Through the interleaved approach, the current stresses of the main devices and the ripple of the output voltage and input current are reduced. The main switches turn on with ZVT and turn off with zero voltage switching (ZVS). The auxiliary switch turns on with zero current switching (ZCS) and turns off with ZVS. In addition, the snubber cell does not create additional current or voltage stress on the main switches and main diodes. The proposed converter can smoothly achieve soft switching characteristics even under light load conditions. The theoretical analysis and operating stages of the proposed converter are made for the D > 50% and D < 50% modes. Finally, a prototype of the proposed converter is implemented, and the experimental results are given in detail for 500 W and 50 kHz. The overall efficiency of the proposed converter reached 95.5% at nominal output power.

  • An improved bridgeless interleaved boost power factor correction (PFC) rectifier to improve power efficiency and component utilization is proposed in this study. With combined conventional bridgeless PFC circuit and interleaved technology, the proposed rectifier consists of two interleaved and magnetic inter-coupling boost bridgeless converter cells. Each cell operates alternatively in the critical conduction mode, which can achieve the soft-switching characteristics of the switches and increase power capacity. Auxiliary blocking diodes are employed to eliminate undesired circulating loops and reduce current-sensing noise, which are among the serious drawbacks of a dual-boost PFC rectifier. Magnetic component utilization is improved by symmetrically coupling two inductors on a unique core, which can achieve independence from each other based on the auxiliary diodes. Through the interleaved approach, each switch can operate in the whole line cycle. A simple control scheme is employed in the circuit by using a conventional interleaved controller. The operation principle and theoretical analysis of the converter are presented. A 600 W experimental prototype is built to verify the theoretical analysis and feasibility of the proposed rectifier. System efficiency reaches 97.3% with low total harmonic distortion at full load.

  • In contrast with DC source, Fell cell has non linear characteristics that has lange voltage fluctuation due to load variation, and slow dynamic characteristics. when the loads are increase, the ripples of input and output voltage, also power densities, of inductor, capacitor, and switching devices, are bulky. This paper presents Interleaved boost converter using Fuel cell stacks, proposed converter has merits to promote power densities without increasing loss. Because each converter has same switching frequency and constant phase difference. In this paper, Interleaved boost converter was design for 1[kW], it's validity was proved by simulation and experiments.

  • In this paper, interleaved boost converter is applied as a first-stage converter in switch mode power supply. The first-stage converter plays a role to improve power factor. Interleaved Boost Power Factor Corrector(IBPFC) can reduce input current ripple as a single voltage control loop only without inner current loop, because input current is divided each 50% by two switching devices. Each converter cell is also operated in discontinuous current mode and inductor current of each converter is discontinuous. Total input current which is composed by each converter cell is continuous current. Thus, IBPFC is able to improve input current ripple. IBPFC operating in discontinuous current mode can be classified as six modes from switching state and be carried out state space averaging small signal modeling. A control transfer function is obtained according to the modeling. Not only steady-state characteristics but also dynamic characteristics is considered. Single voltage control loop is also constructed by the control transfer function. From experimental result, improvement of power factor and input current ripple are verified.

  • An interleaved operation of isolated boost converter system has become a very attractive solution in order to convert from low input voltage (30 ~ 50V) of distributed power sources such as photovoltaic and fuel cells to high output voltage (380V/760V) required in grid-connected power conversion applications. In this paper, we have proposed zero voltage transition(ZVT) interleaved boost converter using a single resonant inductor.

  • DC-DC converter commonly used in photovoltaic systems or fuel cell systems is a boost converter. Among several types of boost converter, the interleaved boost converter with small input and output current ripples is widely used in recent years. Because of small input and output current ripples, the circuit can reduce the size of the input and output capacitors. Thus, instead of conventional electrolytic capacitor, the film capacitor with high reliability can be used and this is the life and reliability of the entire system can be improved. In this paper, the input/output current ripple formulas of the multi-stage interleaved boost converter are derived, and the characteristics in accordance with duty are found out. In order to verify the above mentioned contents, the derived results will make a comparison with the calculated values by using PSIM tool.

  • Although many papers about the interleaved boost converter(IBC) have been published, there are, unfortunately, no analytical and rigorous expressions for steady-state operation of the N-phase IBC. To understand the operating characteristics of the N-phase IBC, the averaged state equation and the general steady-state solutions are derived in this paper. The general expressions of the current unbalance due to the parameter mismatch, the inductor and input current ripples, and the output voltage ripple are also presented. Through the analytical expressions presented, the steady-state characteristics of the N-phase IBC are analyzed theoretically and verified experimentally.

  • In this paper, a new three-phase interleaved isolated high efficiency boost dc-dc converter with active clamp is proposed. The converter is capable of increased power transfer due to its three-phase power configuration, and it reduces the rms current per phase, thus reducing conduction losses. Further, interleaved operation of three-phase boost converter reduces overall ripple current, which is imposed into fuel cells and realizes smaller sized filter components, increasing effective operating frequency and leading to higher power density. Each output current of three-phase boost converter is combined by the three-phase transformer and flows in the continuous conduction mode by the proposed three-phase PWM strategy. An efficiency of above 96% is mainly achieved by reducing conduction losses and switching losses are reduced by the action of active clamp branches, as well. The proposed converter and three-phase PWM strategy are analyzed, simulated and implemented in hardware. Experimental results are obtained on a 500 W prototype unit, with all of the design verified and analyzed.
