  • A relatively simple model of a buried structure response to a surface loading that can simulate a possible opening and closure of a gap between the soil and the structure is presented. Analysis of the response of small and medium scale buried roof slabs under surface impulsive loading shows that the model's predictions are in fairly good agreement with the experimental results. Application of the model to a study case shows the relative influence of system parameters such as, the depth of burial, the arching coefficient, and the roof thickness, on the interface pressure and on the roof displacement. This model demonstrates the effect of a gap between the structure and the soil. The relative importance of including a gap opening and closure in the analysis is examined by the application of the model to a study case. This study results show that the deeper the depth of burial, the longer the gap duration, and the shorter the duration of the initial interface impact, while the higher the soil's shear resistance, the higher the gap duration, and the shorter the initial interface impact duration.

  • An object-oriented database was developed as a framesork for integrating into ergonomic interface models data for workplace modelling and ergonomic evaluation functions as well as basic anthropometric data required to construct a man model. In order to develop an ergonomic man model representing operators that interact with his working evnironments, not only anthro- pometric data but also efficient handling of such data and accurate representation of the work- space are needed as a prerequistite to proper ergonomic evaluation. Most existing man models are not, however, capable of fully utilizing these data due to the lack of a generallized formalism of data handling, which results in system performance degradation or a potential difficulty when the system is upgraded. In this research, these three sets of data with distinct characteristics were incorporated into a comon integrated database required to manipulate an ergonomic interface model fully coupled with the man model itself. An object- oriented scheme was sued for the database design Specifically, UniSQL/X, an object-oriented database management system and the X-window system on SPARC workstation were used for implementation. The ergonomic man model generated from the object-oriented database is found to possess great flexibility and performance compared to existing ergonomic interface models or ergonomic CAD systems.

  • This study aims at analyzing to treeing in the solid-solid interface which is insulation type of cable junction parts, the proceeding of tree-growth and electrical breakdown were research in the study. Interface was made artificially to detect how it influenced the insulating ability of the whole system, the specimen were XLPE generally used in cable. The interface conditions were divided into two parts. First condition being the one focused on the surface of interface, it was treated with sand paper (#80, #600, #1200). For the second condition, the pressure of interface was varied as the value of 1, 5, 10 [$kg/cm^2$]. Using above conditions, treeing and breakdown properties on tree-growth were respectively compared in details. As a result, breakdown time was shorter for the full range of supplied voltage in the case of interface existed in the joint than non-existed interface. In the case of existed interface, the interface which had high-interface pressure and painted with silicon insulating oil was the best in the aspect of breakdown characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop systematic methods for evaluating the suitability of a seat and build an empirical model for predicting the suitability of a seat. The following research schemes were pursued to achieve the objectives - Development of suitable chair dimensions - Analysis scheme for decomposing the human-product interface system - Development of model for evaluating suitability. As a result, we uncovered six dominant suitability dimensions for the design of a comfortable seat that is related to the physical dimension of a body, Here, six suitability dimensions were identified as the dimensions that represent the human sensitivity and psychological feeling on comfortable seats. Also, 43 human-interface elements (HIE's) such as seat height, seat width, seat depth, tilting angle, seat surface etc. were investigated. HIE was generally defined as the physical characteristic of manufacturing goods, and it had close related to the body dimension of a user and environment that it was used.

  • For real-time flood forecasting and effective control flood at the Youngsan estuary dam, the Flood Forecasting and Control User Interface System II (FFCUS II) has been developed. This paper describes the features and application of FFCUS II. FFCUS II is composed of the database management subsystem, the model subsystem, and the graphic user interface. The database management subsyem collects rainfall data and stream flow data, updates, processes, and searches the data. The model subsystem predicts the inflow hydrograph, the tide, forecasts flood hydrograph, and simulates the release rate from the sluice gates. The graphic user interface subsystem aids the user's decision-making process by displaying the operation results of the database management subsystem and model subsystem.

  • The surface rheological properties of polymer monolayer show complicated non-linear viscoelastic flow phenomena when they are subjected to spreading flow. These spreading flow properties are controlled by the characteristics of flow units. The kinetics of the formation of an interfacial film obtained after spreading poly(diisobutylene maleic acid) at air-water interface were studied by measuring of the surface pressure with time. The experimental data were analyzed theoretically according to a nonlinear surface viscoelastic model. The values of dynamic modulus, static modulus, surface viscosities and rheological parameters in various area/ monomer were obtained by appling experimental data to the equation of nonlinear surface viscoelastic model.

  • In the present study, we propose Monte Carlo simulation that takes into consideration the interface phenomena between liquid crystal and substrate. We use rigid model molecules of liquid crystal and substrate. Interface is generated using potential field that induces decomposition of molecules. We use hard spherocylinders as model liquid crystal molecules. Substrate is modeled as region composed of shorter spherocylinders. Our results show that there is a case in which nematic order is reinforced in the vicinity of rubbed substrate.

  • The interface between two different polymers is characterized theoretically by using a model. This model is based on the assumption that the monomeric friction coefficients of the two polymers are identical but a strong function of the matrix composition. This model predicts that the concentration profiles are highly asymmetric with substantial swelling of the slower-diffusing component by the faster component. To predict the behavior of interdiffusion, three quantities are used: distance of interface Z*(t) due to the swelling, interfacial width W(t) which is most sensitive to the detailed composition profiling, and mass transport M(t) due to interdiffusion. It is found that the more dissimilar polymer pairs, the faster the movement of the interface, the quicker its interfacial width saturates to a limiting value and the slower its mass transport. These results are in qualitative agreement with some experiments.

  • A broadband access network in B-ISDN subscriber network, plays a role of concentration or multiplexing of various subscribers into a service node. For call and connection control functions, DSS2 and B-ISUP signalling protocols are standardized for each of a subscriber side and a network node. B-BCC and B-ANCC protocol were proposed for VB5.2 interface. This interface allows dynamic control of ATM connections at the broadband access network. To establish an end-to-end ATM connection, interworking functions between VB5.2 interface's connection control protocol and the signalling protocol, are performed at the service node. A sequential interworking model and a parallel interworking model were proposed for these interworking functions. The sequential interworking model recommended by ITU-T causes an overall connection setup delay by introducing the access network, because this model proceeds the signalling protocol of network node after the response of VB5.2 interface protocol. On the other hand, the parallel interworking model proceeds the signalling protocol and the VB5.2 interface protocol simultaneously. The simultaneity of the parallel interworking model minimizes the overall connection setup delay. In this paper, we analyze and simulate above two interworking models with B-BCC or B-ANCC protocol in terms of a connection setup delay and completion ratio.

  • In this paper, the skewness properties of partial discharge at interface layer in mica-epoxy composite material were investigated and studied on interface specimens which has internal electrodes. As a result, it has been confirmed that the interface exists as abnormal resin layer and the contact condition at the interface is depended upon the density of si lane aqueous solution. The Pulse frequency of discharge at abnormal interface has been shown a linear increasing with enlargement of discharge quantity according to rising of the applied voltage. Whereas, in case of normal interface, pulse frequency represented exponential increasing at the saturating point of discharge quantity. The aging model can be represented from the variable characteristics of skewness.
