An Investigative Study on the Structural Characteristics of High-Rise Complexes in Korea (국내 고층 주상복합 건물의 구조적 특성에 관한 조사 연구)

  • Recently, the interest in a complex building increases rapidly in Korea. High-rise complex is not simply the combination of a residential apartment and a business office as previous but a building with the object of the convenience of the residents familiar with city-life style through adapting the high class life style and new residential culture to the business space, and the efficiency in using the limited building site in the town. This study presents an exploratory analysis focusing the structural system with the help of the extensive survey of the construction site in Korea, and aims a guideline for the structural design and construction of high rise complex. Through the survey, change and development in the design and the construction can be seen as the height and size of the complex grow. It is almost indispensable to design a structural system against lateral forces like earthquake or wind, which is usually measured by story drift ratio or story displacement. Improvement of the structural materials and their usages is also included for the efficiency of the structural system. Useful slab-beam system contributing to the decrease of the story height is still a concern.

MAXIZYMEs: Allosterically controllable ribozymes with biosensor functions

  • Ribozymes are catalytic RNAs that can cleave RNAs at specific sites, thus they have been employed to degrade a target mRNA in vivo. Development of allosterically controllable ribozymes is of great current interest, but it remained difficult to furnish such functions to ribozymes in cultured cells or in animals. Recently, we designed allosterically controllable ribozymes termed maxizymes, which have sensor arms that recognize target mRNA sequences and, in the presence of such target sequences only, they form a cavity that can capture catalytically indispensable $Mg^{2+}$ ions, cleaving the target. The maxizyme was applied to therapy for chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). It cleaved specifically the chimeric BCR-ABL mRNA, which caused CML, without damaging the normal ABL or BCR mRNA in mammalian cells and also in mice, providing the first successful example for allosteric control of the activity of artificial ribozymes in vivo.

  • Recently as the population of the disabled increased, interest and understanding toward them have deepened and the importance of universal design has risen. The purpose of this study is to understand the 3-dimensional body figure of the disabled by collecting a plaster figure using plaster dressing method and developing an individual nude body using FRP, with one female wheelchair user as the subject. The results of this study are as follows: First, 3-dimensional shape grasp about the figure of the obstacle person as is. Second, developing of individual nude body. Third, the presentation of the practical use idea of individual nude body. Last is the security of the basic document about the universal design. Uses the individual nude body in future and under producing boil a basic pattern and disabled person clothing.   • While indirect targeting strategies using reporter-genes are taking center stage in current molecular imaging research, another vital strategy has long involved direct imaging of specific receptors using radiolabeled ligands. Recently, there is renewal of immense interest in this area with particular attention to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a transmembrane glycoprotein critically involved in the regulation of many cellular functions and malignancies. Recently, two novel classes of EGFR-targeting anticancer drugs have entered clinical trials with great expectations. These are monoclonal antibodies such as cetuximab that target the extracellular domain, and small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as gefitinib (lressa) and erlotinib (Tarceva) that target the catalytic domain of the receptor. However, early results have showed disappointing survival benefits, disclosing a major challenge for this therapeutic strategy; namely, the need to identify tumors that are most likely to respond to the agents. To address this important clinical issue, several noninvasive imaging techniques are under investigation including radiolabeled probes based on small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors, anti-EGFR antibodies, and EGF peptides. This review describes the current status, limitations, and future prospects in the development of radiotracer methods for EGFR imaging.

  • This study aimed at developing tea furniture with beauty of traditional Korean furniture. As the population which drinks tea increases day by day in the light of LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) era, the importance of the tea culture has been brought out and the interest of the pieces has increased with the cultural space. But the study is still not only insufficient for Korean tea cultural space, it is but also hard for us to find such pieces as holding the original culture's charm. Thus, after studying concepts and spatial qualities of the tea cultural space based on the traditional culture and after investigating the tea objects including the integral parts, a piece of tea shelf with table which hits the emotion of Korea necessary to tea cultural space was created with solid wood. As a result, if we rediscover and develop the tea pieces with beauty of traditional Korean furniture mentioned as the green furniture, the objects will be standing on tiptoe as contemporary tea pieces conveying the identity of Korea. In addition, they will have a competitiveness across the world pursuing LOHAS beyond well-being.

But currently the applicator it will be able to treat like this disease almost it is a condition which is wholly lacking. Consequently like this disease it used magnetic stimulation and it diagnosed and the equipment it will be able to treat plan and it embodied.

  • As the development of new media and smart phone, more and more people are using social commerce application to shop on-line. Comfort and easiness of the UX design of the application directly affect the social commerce user's searching and buying the merchandise. This study analyzes the effect of social commerce application, especially focusing on the lay-out of the GUI, on the consumer's interest and we suggest an attractive application design of the UX. The material of this study is the lay-out of the GUI of 3 major social commerce - Wemakeprice, Coupan and Ticket monster. We asked questions to the university students who are skillful smart phone users to select frequent on-line shoppers and performed in-depth interview with them to draw a conclusion. As a result of study, differences of main screen layout and information architecture of each social commerce applications has confirmed that indicates a significant difference in usability.

  • Objectives : The new health technology assessment system was introduced in April 2007. The purpose of new health technology assessment is assessing safety and efficacy in deciding a behavior of new health technology according to the Health Insurance Act. This study aims to understand the present status of new health technologies of Korean medicine. Methods : This research introduces new health technologies and their present status, and searches for a development direction for the new health technology of Korean medicine in the future. Results : Thirty seven cases(3%) of Korean medicine doctors who utilized new health technologies application were found. In the status about new health technologies application by technologies assortment, diagnostic test techniques were used more often than treatment skills. New medical technology that included korean medicine doctor as actual user was only one item, i.e. HCV antibody test. Conclusions : In order for the new health technology of korean medicine to settle down well, continuous interest and efforts of both government and medical community are necessary.

Endochondral Ossification Signals in Cartilage Degradation During Osteoarthritis Progression in Experimental Mouse Models

  • Osteoarthritis (OA), one of the most common skeletal disorders characterized by cartilage degradation and osteophyte formation in joints, is induced by accumulated mechanical stress; however, little is known about the underlying molecular mechanism. Several experimental OA models in mice by producing instability in the knee joints have been developed to apply approaches from mouse genetics. Although proteinases like matrix metalloproteinases and aggrecanases have now been proven to be the principal initiators of OA progression, clinical trials of proteinase inhibitors have not been successful for the treatment, turning the interest of researchers to the upstream signals of proteinase induction. These signals include undegraded and fragmented matrix proteins like type II collagen or fibronection that affects chondrocytes through distinct receptors. Another signal is proinflammatory factors that are produced by chondrocytes and synovial cells; however, recent studies that used mouse OA models in knockout mice did not support that these factors have a role in the central contribution to OA development. Our mouse genetic approaches found that the induction of a transcriptional activator Runx2 in chondrocytes under mechanical stress contributes to the pathogenesis of OA through chondrocyte hypertrophy. In addition, chondrocyte apoptosis has recently been identified as being involved in OA progression. We hereby propose that these endochondral ossification signals may be important for the OA progression, suggesting that the related molecules can clinically be therapeutic targets of this disease.

Perceptions of pre-service mathematics teachers' teaching practicum and difficulties of mathematics instruction (예비수학교사들의 학교현장실습에 대한 인식과 수학수업에서 겪는 어려움)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate pre-service teachers' perceptions and their difficulties of mathematics instruction. Pre-service teachers have positive perceptions about teaching students and teaching profession through teaching practicum. In addition, they have perceived that teaching practicum can enhance teaching methods for their students. Especially, they suggested that cooperating teachers' instruction and mathematics teachers and their colleagues' classroom observation are important factors to improve their teaching methods. In other hands, they have difficulties in application of questions encouraging mathematical thinking, attention concentration considering students' interest and planning and performing for mathematics instruction class according to levels of students' study abilities. Based upon this study's findings, teacher education institutes should make efforts to alleviate difficulties in mathematics instruction through effective teaching practicum such as regular reflection activities for their classes, programs development associated with schools, pre-training and education programs for guidance teachers.
