  • The Commercial space are changed gradually large scalized and complexed to introduce different culture exchanges and experience. However, the mass-complex commercial space are limited as of their complexed space composition or degree of space depth, which may become factors causing people to get tired easily. Thus, having a design strategy is important to create economical effectiveness in order to overcome these limitations and for the people to stay longer and do their consumption activities through more experiences and social interchanges. Recently, Jerde Partnership's who designed many complex commercial spaces made a commercial success by their unique design strategy to setup a new space and lead the interaction between space and people. The purpose of this study is based on Jerd's design concept to analyze Jerd Partnership's design strategy and space related structure to propose their space construction and design method for mass-complex commercial spaces. The results are as follows. (1)Jerde Partnership's causes the abundant space experience of the user through mass and space constitution to have a theme and a story. (2)They builds an excursion type line of flow system with an organic curve, and a non-daily experience by the change of the space scale and the application of various programs is enabled and guides the stay for the long time. (3)They builds the doorway of various courses and a circulation system through the open space and controls depth of the space. In addition, various events are performed in the center of such a circulation system, and this event makes a unique place.

  • In order to allow the user to efficiently browse, select, and retrieve a desired video part without having to deal directly with GBytes of compressed data, classification of shot motion characteristic has to be carried out as a preparation for such user interaction. The organization of video information for video database requires segmentation of a video into its constituent shots and their subsequent characterization in terms of content and camera movement in shot. In order to classify shot motion, it is a conventional way to use element of motion vector. However, there is a limit to estimate global camera motion because the way that uses motion vectors only represents local movement. For shot classification in terms of motion information, we propose a new scheme consisting of partial decoding of INTRA pictures and comparing the x, y displacement vector curve between the decoded I-frame and next P-frame in compressed video data.

  • Nicotinic acid was mixed with glass powders such as controlled pore glass (CPG), glyceryl controlled pore glass (GPG) and glass beads (GB) at room temperature. The physicochemical properties of nicotinic acid in the various mixtures were examined by differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction study. Infrared spectroscopy and BET gas adsorption measurements. The peak area at the melting point from the various mixtures of nicotinic acid and CPG was increased with an increase of nicotinic acid concentration while the broad peak area was remained unchanged in the DTA curve. As shown in the powder X-ray diffraction patterns, the crystalline peaks of nicotinic acid disappeared in mixture with CPG, suggesting the interaction of nicotinic acid and porous powders. It was found that the larger the content of CPG, the higher the ratio of an amorphous state to a crystalline state. BET isotherm showed that as the amount of nicotinic acid was increased, the specific surface area was reduced proportionally to nicotinic acid content of up to 40% and remained constant thereafter. Sublimation of nicotinic acid from the mixture of nicotinic acid and CPG was examined. A large quantity of nicotinic acid was retained in the mixture when stored on various temperatures in vacuo for 10 hours. The nicotinic acid mixtures with CPG or GPG showed a high dissolution rates of nicotinic acid in aqueous solution, especially in the initial dissolution stage. CPG is expected to be a good pharmaceutical excipient to reduce the crystallinity of drugs and to prevent sublimation of drugs.

  • In earthquake engineering, dynamic analyses are usually conducted by using a nonlinear analytical model of the entire building in order to identify the performance against earthquakes. At the same time, a large number of dynamic analyses are required to consider uncertainties on analytical models and ground motions. Therefore, it is necessary for the analytical model to be adequate, that is to say, the runtime should not be too long as the entire building is modeled to be in much detail, or the nonlinear model should not yield outputs very far from the actual ones by excluding important behaviors too much. The analytical model is usually developed based on experimental results, which have been already conducted for reinforced concrete columns with relaxed details. Therefore, this study aimed at making analytical models to be able to simulate the hysteretic behavior of the columns simply and easily. The analytical model utilizes a lumped hinge model to represent nonlinear moment-rotation hysteretic behavior of RC columns, which is feasible for nonlinear dynamic analyses usually conducted in earthquake engineering and for matching the analytical model to test results. For the analytical model, elements and material models provided by OpenSees are utilized. The analytical model can define the envelope curve, pinching, and unloading stiffness deterioration, but shortcoming of this model is not to be able to consider axial force-moment interaction directly and to simulate strength deterioration after post-capping completely. However, the analytical model can still represent test results well by considering that the goal of this study is to propose a general way to represent the hysteretic behavior of RC columns with relaxed details, not to provide parameters for a refined hysteretic model that can be just applied case by case.

  • Background: The interaction between tumor cells and inflammatory cells has not been systematically investigated in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether preoperative the lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR), the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and the platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) could predict the prognosis of ESCC patients undergoing esophagectomy. Materials and Methods: Records from 218 patients with histologically diagnosed ESCC who underwent attempted curative surgery from January 2007 to December 2008 were retrospectively reviewed. Besides clinicopathological prognostic factors, we evaluated the prognostic value of the LMR, the NLR, and the PLR using Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression models. Results: The median follow-up was 38.6 months (range 3-71 months). The cut-off values of 2.57 for the LMR, 2.60 for the NLR and 244 for the PLR were chosen as optimal to discriminate between survival and death by applying receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis of patients with low preoperative LMR demonstrated a significant worse prognosis for DFS (p=0.004) and OS (p=0.002) than those with high preoperative LMR. The high NLR cohort had lower DFS (p=0.004) and OS (p=0.011). Marginally reduced DFS (p=0.068) and lower OS (p=0.039) were found in the high PLR cohort. On multivariate analysis, only preoperative LMR was an independent prognostic factor for both DFS (p=0.009, HR=1.639, 95% CI 1.129-2.381) and OS (p=0.004, HR=1.759, 95% CI 1.201-2.576) in ESCC patients. Conclusions: Preoperative LMR better predicts cancer survival compared with the cellular components of systemic inflammation in patients with ESCC undergoing esophagectomy.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of efonidipine on the pharmacokinetics of warfarin after oral and intravenous administration of warfarin in rats. Warfarin was administered orally (0.2 mg/kg) or intravenously (0.05 mg/kg) without or with oral administration of efonidipine (1 or 3 mg/kg) in rats. The effect of efonidipine on the cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 activity was also evaluated. Efonidipine inhibited CYP3A4 enzyme activity with 50% inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$) of $0.08{\mu}M$. Compared to those in the oral control group (warfarin without efonidipine), the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of warfarin was significantly greater (1 mg/kg, P<0.05; 3 mg/kg, P<0.01) by 25.9-59.0%, and the peak plasma concentration ($C_{max}$) was significantly higher (3 mg/kg, P<0.05) by 26.2% after oral administration of warfarin with efonidipine, respectively. The total body clearance of warfarin was significantly (3 mg/kg, P<0.05) decreased by efonidifine. Consequently, the relative bioavailability of warfarin was increased by 1.26- to 1.59-fold and the absolute bioavailability of warfarin with efonidipine was significantly greater by 59.7-75.4 % compared to that in the control group (47.4%). In contrast, efonidipine had no effect on any pharmacokinetic parameters of warfarin given intravenously. Therefore, the enhanced oral bioavailability of warfarin may be due to inhibition of CYP 3A4-mediated metabolism in the intestine and/or liver and to reduction of total body celarance rather than renal elimination, resulting in reducing first-pass metabolism by efonidipine.

  • Yeum et al. formulated a new hot-plate method using the threshold temperature, and there are some controversies on the effects of naloxone and diazepam on the antinociceptive action. In this paper, the comparison of three methods registering analgesic activity and the application of the new hot-plate method formulated by Yeum et al. on the study of the influences of naloxone and diazepam on the analgesic effect of morphine were tried in male mice. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1) The least-square regression lines of the morphine analgesia plotted against log-dose showed the correlation coefficient of above 0.90, but the competitive antagonism produced by naloxone (0.1 mg/kg) against the analgesia was more prominently demonstated by the new hot-plate method than the other methods: original hot-plate method and electrical stimulation method. 2) In the experiment using the new hot-plate method, the log dose-response curve of morphine (y=7.30 x+49.80, r=0.998) was shifted to the right by the pretreatment of naloxone (0.1 mg/kg), but was slightly shifted to the left by the pretreatment of diazepam (2.5 mg/kg). This study suggests that for the analgesia experiment, the new hot-plate method is superior to the original hot-plate method or the electrical stimulation method, and that the potentiative effect of diazepam on the morphine anagesia is not significant.

  • The interaction between a calcium channel blocker nifedipine and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) was examined in normotensive and renal hypertensive rats. The infusion of either ANP or nifedipine produced a significant decrease in mean arterial pressure (MAP). The combined infusion of ANP with nifedipine resulted in a greater fall of MAP than did the infusion of each drug alone. ANP significantly increased urinary volume and excretion of sodium, while nifedipine was without effects. The diuretic/natriuretic effects of ANP were potentiated by the combined infusion with nifedipine. The vasodepressor and renal effects of ANP or nifedipine were qualitatively similar between the normotensive and hypertensive rats. Nifedipine caused an upward and leftward shift of the ANP dose-relaxation curve of the phenylephrine-precontracted thoracic aortic rings isolated from the normotensive rats , suggesting that the vasodilation sensitivity to ANP is increased in the presence of nifedipine. These results indicate that nifedipine enhances the vasodepressor effect of ANP, the likely mechanisms being attributable to a contraction of effective intravascular volume as a consequence of potentiated renal excretion and a greater peripheral vasodilation.

  • This paper focuses on the development of a supporting S/W tool for the automated design of an automotive press trim die. To define the die design process based on automation, we analyze the press die design process of the current industry and group repetitive works in the 3D modeling process. The proposed system consists of two modules, namely the template models of the trim steel parts and UI function for their auto-positioning. Four kinds of template models are developed to adapt to various situations and the rules of the interaction formula which are used for checking and correcting the directions of the datum point, datum curve, datum plane are implemented to eliminate errors. The system was developed using CATIA Knowledgeware, CAA(CATIA SDK) and Visual C++, in order for it to function as a plug-in module of CATIA V5, which is one of the major 3D CAD systems in the manufacturing industry. The developed system was tested by applying it to various panels of current automobiles and the results showed that it reduces the time-cost by 74% compared to the traditional method.
