This study explores the identity-formation of adult Korean-American intentional adoptees who studied Korean in a Korean language center in New York from 2005 to 2007. Based on participant observation in the classroom, observations of student conversations in their gatherings, and discourse analysis of conversations related to why they were studying Korean, I found that adoptees felt that their lack of knowledge of Korean had caused them to fall short of expectations of ethnic Koreans. Stereotyped as Korean (or Asian) based on their looks, they were often assumed to possess knowledge of and skills associated with Korean culture, which they of course lacked. They were motivated to study Korean (and acquaint themselves with Korean culture) in order to meet these expectations.

A 36-year-old female was transferred to our emergency medical center with decreased mental status after a 6.0 g propafenone overdose because of domestic disturbance. She had no previous history of epilepsy, diabetes mellitus, hypertension or psychiatric illness. Before presenting to our center, gastrointestinal decontamination, charcoal administration, and endotracheal intubation due to bradycardia and generalized seizure had been performed. Soon after hospital arrival, at 5 h after ingestion, she collapsed into shock and fatal arrhythmia. We successfully resuscitated the patient with amiodarone, sodium bicarbonate, a large volume of normal saline, calcium, and ventilator care. At 23 h after ingestion, she was fully recovered and had no subjective signs or symptoms. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of intentional propafenone overdose in Korea, which we report with reviews of the previous literature.

This study aimed to examine the influences of children's sex and the social information interpretation(intentional/incidental) on aggressions (form/function). The subjects were 363 fifth and sixth graders from 6 elementary schools in Busan and the data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA. The research findings were as follows: First, children's sex had significant influence upon their overt aggression, and children's interpretation of social information had significant influences upon their overt aggression and relational aggression alike. Second, children's sex and interpretation of social information had significant influences upon their proactive aggression and reactive aggression. Finally, children's sex had significant influences upon proactive-overt aggression, reactive-overt aggression and proactive-relational aggression.

In this study, a learning environment based on STEAM theory was proposed to support and improve learners' activities and achievements for convergent design education. The learning environment design influence STEAM education with intentional design and schedule coordination, schools can create informal environments that are crucial to STEAM education. The physical surroundings of the learning space should be applied to teaching methods and learning activity, especially for STEAM-based education, physical space conditions should support the learner's design thinking and process. Furthermore, STEAM-based education environment should support a vast array of experiences that allow students to learn the context around ideas and skills. For spaces for learning environment based on STEAM, common design principles should be considered such as technology integration, safety and security, transparency, multipurpose space, and outdoor learning. Therefore, the learning environment based on STEAM needs flexible and mobile, connected, integrated, organized, flipped, and team-focused surroundings to support the learners understand, participate, cooperate, and accomplish the design process.

Penalty tax of basic law that has been revised in December 30, 2006 has been amended to tax 40 percent on no report and under-reporting in unjustifiable way. This revision is a punitive regulation that reflects the national tax service's will to not sit back and watch taxpayers' intentional tax evasion by imposing a heavier tax burden, and it raised penalty tax rate that has been applied leniently compared to foreign countries. Therefore, this study examines how changes in penalty tax rate affected faithful tax report and in what level the punitive penalty tax rate should be legislated so that the effect of the penalty tax rate can be maximized by performing empirical analysis on the effect on income tax rate reporting standard of self-employed businesses before and after the time the penalty tax rate increased dramatically from 33.3% to 300% based on the items.

This article explores the historical evolutionary process of the biopharmaceutical industry of Korea, and how intentional and unintentional policy interventions have triggered the creation of the industry's system dynamics and paved the way for the generation of a few global leading products, including biosimilar, as well as next-generation therapeutics of gene and cell. The policies cover the simple technology transfer of API synthesis to overcome the endemic parasitic disease, new substance patent adoption and new drug development consortia, human resource development, various national initiatives influenced by the Human Genome Project, and venture promotion schemes. The scope and implementation tools under these policies have been aligned and refined to transform traditional fine chemical-based pharmaceuticals, to stimulate large companies' participation and to create technology-based venture companies in the biopharma business of Korea.

In this paper, we investigate the patient fall prevention system to prevent the patient from falling out of the bed unintentionally on the bed of the bed. Patients stay in bed for many hours of hospitalization. During the hospitalization period, patients have low controllability of the body, as compared with normal persons, and fall due to intentional movements, resulting in a fall of the patient, can be a fatal threat to the patient. Therefore, an efficient fall prevention system is required. In this paper, the distance map to the patient is generated by the distance measuring sensor on the bed of the patient, and the risk is determined by estimating the position of the patient based on the distance map. As a result, when the distance map of the dangerous area is 150 mm or more, it is determined to be dangerous, and good results are obtained.

Recently, number of intentional jamming has increased significantly. If GNSS jammers are activated, user receivers can be largely influenced due to the vulnerable characteristic of the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) signal. When the reception power of the jamming signal and that of the navigation signal are similar, the C/A (Coarse Acquisition) chip delay error can occur in the delay locked loop. To evaluate the jamming effect, a new measurement model is formulated based on previous research works. The new model explains how the jamming to signal ratio affects the ranging measurement accuracy and other parameters. To evaluate the validity of the newly formulated model, the experiment results of the previous research works under actual jamming environment are utilized. By evaluating the consistency of the carrier-to-noise ratio (C/N0) and the position error with the actual jamming environment, the validity of the newly formulated model is verified.

In modern times, text has become an image, and typography is a style that is a combination of image and text that can be easily encountered in everyday life. It is developing not only for the purpose of conveying meaningful communication, but also to bring joy and beauty to our lives as a medium with aesthetic format. This study shows through case analysis that typography is a tool for expressing human emotions, and investigates its characteristics that change along with the media. In particular, interactive communication tools and methods used by interactive typography to express viewers' emotions are described in detail. We created interactive typography using the inputted text, the selected music by the viewer and the viewer's movement. As a result of applying it to the exhibition, we could confirm that interactive typography can function as an effective communication medium that shows the utility of both the iconography of letter signs and the cognitive function when combined with the audience's intentional motion.

There are some turn maneuvers, such as hard Round Turn, Turning Short Round, Williamson Turn and Single Turn, of effectively returning a ship back close to the original track in case of emergency situations of man-overboard and intentional delay of port entrance time, and so forth. But the author developed the new turn maneuvers of Double 30 (woo) Turn originally by means of simulation experiments of Full-Mission Shiphandling Simulator. The conclusions of this study are as follows: 1) By comparison of existing Williamson Turn and Turning Short Round this Double 30(woo) Turn is all-weather multipurpose turn maneuvers in some respects, 2) According to simulation experiments this Double 30 (woo) Turn saved approximately 20-35% of total turning time to the original position and reduced maximum advances by 8-10% approximately in comparison to that of Williamson Turn, 3) Except for emergency men-overboard the Reverse Williamson Turn was proposed as a new reverse maneuver of returning a ship back to the original track.
