Development of Conversational Interface Platform Based on MS Robotics Studio for Integrated Service Robots (통합 서비스 로봇을 위한 MS 로보틱스 스튜디오 기반 대화 인터페이스 플랫폼 구축)

  • The development of IT technology makes the functions and services of robots be integrated, and thus the robots become more intelligent and useful. As sophisticated usage of robots has evolved, direct communication by human language is necessary to increase the efficiency of their usage. In this paper, we propose a conversational interface platform for integrated service robots using MS Robotics Studio. The proposed platform consists of three types of components: a conversation manager to control the flows of the integrated service robots, a user interface to interact with users, and multiple service robots to perform actions or services. For a test-bed of the proposed platform, we build a schedule manager system and confirm the usability through SUS subject test by comparing the schedule manager system with MS Outlook.

A New Navigation/Traveling Method in Virtual Environment (가상공간에서 새로운 이동기법에 관한 연구)

  • An important feature of virtual reality is the facility for the user to move around a virtual environment in a natural and easily controlled manner, Navigation. Navigation involves changing the perspective of the user in the virtual environment (VE). Natural locomotion methods are able to contribute to a sense of presence and reality. This paper focuses on the navigation method in the virtual environment, one of the major interfaces for the interactivity between human and virtual environments in virtual reality circumstances and worlds. It proposes a new navigation method: Intelligent Cruise-Control Navigation (ICCN), which provides a natural and user-centered navigation method in virtual environment and can improve the reality and the presence. Intelligent Cruise-Control Navigation is composed of three major phases: Constant Velocity Navigation, Collision Detection and Avoidance, and Path Adjustment. The ICCN can reduce the user's fatigue and improve the user's presence and reality in the virtual environment. Through the experimental study it has been determined that the ICCN will be a natural, straightforward, and useful interface in VE.

  • Currently, ITS (Intelligent Transport System) system is supporting a variety of services to be enhanced traffic's efficiency and driver's safety as developing of information communications and network technology. High data transfer communications such as Wibro, HSPA and WAVE are used for providing ITS services, but there are some differences from specification and performance applied. So, users who are employing the communication systems to transfer data whatever they want to have been suffering from use. In this paper, it is proposed that user can use various high data transfer communication systems wherever environments they are in using adaptation of system change. Also, it is implemented performance of system which uses alternate communication scheme in mobile terminal based on embedded platform.

  • This paper describes an intelligent service robot system for managing a store in an unmanned environment. The robot can be a good replacement for humans because it is possible to work all day and to remember lots of information. We design a system architecture for configuring many intelligent functions of intelligent service robot system which consists of four layers; a User Interaction Layer, a Behavior Scheduling Layer, a Intelligent Module Layer, and a Hardware Layer. We develop an intelligent service robot 'Part Timer' based on the designed system architecture. The 'Part Timer' has many intelligent function modules such as face detection-recognition-tracking module, speech recognition module, navigation module, manipulator module, appliance control module, etc. The 'Part Timer' is possible to answer the phone and this function gives convenient interface to users.

  • As the world game marcket has been recording weak growth, the development of new gane concept is required to attract the gamer's attention from those who were fed up with the previous game paradigm. Recently, the game which can recognize the player's motions and provide new interaction between the game and user is more popular than ever before. In the games with somesthesia based on Virtual Reality, the sense of the reality is considered the most important factor for drawing immersion from the gamers. In this work, a new type of 3-axis accelerometer based interactive game interface which can effectively recognize the gamer' motion is suggested. Furthermore, various experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Study of iPhone Interface for Remote Robot Control Based on WiFi Communication (WiFi 통신 기반의 로봇제어를 위한 아이폰 인터페이스 연구)

  • This study presents the remote control of a mobile robot using iPhone based on Wi-Fi communication. The paper proposes the following set of user interfaces : acceleration mode, arrow touch mode, and jog-shuttle mode. To evaluate the proposed three interfaces, a virtual robot is controlled in a monitor to follow a referenced trajectory using iPhone. In simulation, the standard deviation and summed errors are analysed for showing good and weak points of the proposed three interfaces. The proposed interface replace an additional remote controller requiring cost with a cellular phone. Results of an experiment show that the proposed interfaces can be effectively used for remote robot control.

  • Providing personalized services customized to users' needs and preferences becomes highlighted as a key area of user-context computing. It is essential for context-aware technology to be developed more intelligent and meaningful services by being widely applied to a variety of sectors and domains. SDO (Standard Development Organization) such as MPEG and W3C has been actively developed to be standardized services and to improve context-awareness services. Yet current standards related to context-aware technology, such as MPEG-7, MPEG-21, MPEG-V, and emotionML, are not capable enough to support various systems and diverse services. Against this backdrop, the MPEG User Description, referred to also as MPEG-UD Standard, is to ensure interoperability among recommendation services, which take into account user's context when generating recommendations to users. In this light, we introduce standards related to the user context and propose the structure for RD-Engine and the Remote Responsive User Interface(RRUI) system in reference to MPEG-UD. This system collects unit resources matching specific condition according to the user's contexts described by MPEG-UD. In so doing, it improves adaptive user interface considering device features in real-time. By automatically generating adaptive user interfaces tailored to an individual's contexts, the proposed system aims to achieve high-quality user experience for a complex service.

  • Track Movable Lighting System (TMLS) which is developed by New Technology Bank Co., LTD is variable lighting system which can be freely carried according to the power track comprising by including the trolley bar. This paper introduces a track design and a heuristic algorithm for intelligent lighting control of TMLS, and proposes a user interface for handling lighting control without difficulty. If New Technology Bank Co.,LTD grafts proposed control system onto TMLS, user can easily handle the lighting system movement by simply pushing the button.

  • Tangible Space Initiative (TSI) is a new framework that can provide a more natural and intuitive Human Computer Interface for users. This is composed of three cooperative components: a Tangible Interface, Responsive Cyber Space, and Tangible Agent. In this paper we present a Tangible Tele-Meeting system in TSI, which allows people to communicate with each other without any spatial limitation. In addition, we introduce a method for registering a Tangible Avatar with a Tangible Agent. The suggested method is based on relative pose estimation between the user and the Tangible Agent. Experimental results show that the user can experience an interaction environment that is more natural and intelligent than that provided by conventional tele-meeting systems.

  • This paper explains the construction of the filesystems which could be utilized in embedded systems as an implementation of ubiquitous computing. It includes the formal architecture of filesystem hierarchy for the DOC (Disk-On-Chip) filesystem and the flash filesystem based on the MTD (Memory Technology Devices). For DOC, the root filesystem and the user filesystem are constructed by the TrueFFS supported by the M-Systems. For MTD filesystem, the root filesystem is implemented in the fast RAM disk, and the user filesystem is implemented in the JFFS2 that supports large capacity. In order to support the GUI filesystem, the porting process of Qt/E is also included in this paper.
