  • In this paper a single-wheeled robot called GYROBO is built and its hardware is implemented. The single-wheeled robot is similar to a rolling disk relying on gyroscopic motions to maintain its balance. The GYROBO consists of three actuators: a spin motor a tilt motor, and a drive motor. The spin motor spins a flywheel at a high rate so that it provides the balancing stability to upright the robot. The tilt motor controls steering of the robot by gyroscopic effect. The drive motor makes forward accelerated motion to the robot. Several models are designed. Experimental works of the GYROBO to turn and move forward have been presented.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive robust fuzzy control scheme for path tracking of a wheeled mobile robot with uncertainties. The robot dynamics including the actuator dynamics is considered in this work. The presented controller is composed of a fuzzy basis function network (FBFN) to approximate an unknown nonlinear function of the robot complete dynamics, an adaptive robust input to overcome the uncertainties, and a stabilizing control input. Genetic algorithms are employed to optimize the fuzzy rules of FBFN. The stability and the convergence of the tracking errors are guaranteed using the Lyapunov stability theory. When the controller is designed, the different parameters for two actuator models in the dynamic equation are taken into account. The proposed control scheme does not require the accurate parameter values for the actuator parameters as well as the robot parameters. The validity and robustness of the proposed control scheme are demonstrated through computer simulations.

  • A projection-based active information display system was proposed. The proposed system is based on Intelligent Space and a steerable projector mounted mobile robot which is called Ubiquitous Display (UD). In order to transfer visual information for a human in the Intelligent Space, the UD projects a certain shape of an image with a fixed size. Due to redundancy of degree of freedom (DOF), there are lots of situations to project a same shape and size of the image on a surface. In this paper, we describe a method to determine a goal posture of the UD. Here, the goal posture is the most efficient position and orientation of the UD so as to project visual information and it is determined by the Intelligent Space. To verify the proposed method, simulation and demonstration are carried out.

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach to intelligent control based on fuzzy logic for work efficiency improvement of smart factory by the applicaion of ariticulated robot. The intelligent control that is applied to the working process by the joint of robotic manipulator is the main focus to improve a work efficiency for implimentation of smart factory in general manufacturing process. In this study, we propose a new method of a fuzzy model and then develop a nonlinear relationship between interaction forces and manipulator position using a fuzzy model. The reliability of the proposed control method is illustrated by simulation and experiments.

  • This study presents one man-portable, hazardous gas detecting and capturing robot. The robot can be fit in the trunk of a sedan car. Its weight is less than 20 kg. A dedicated gas intake mechanism is proposed for the robot. The robot can detect and capture gases at a height of 2 m above the ground, although the height of the robot is about 0.2 m. The performance of the gas intake mechanism is verified through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis and experiments. Its gas detecting signals were acquired by serial communication and processed in Robot Operating System (ROS) based control software. The proposed robot can successfully move on rough terrains such as stairs, sand roads, and rock roads.

This paper proposes a dual-arm robot designed and implemented with consideration of being applied to a cell production line of cellular phone. A specification was derived from the analysis of production process and the consideration of configuration for human-robot cooperation. Design and implementation results of the proposed dual-arm robot were suggested and the feasibility was verified through the demonstration of the proposed robot in some of packaging job of cellular phone.

  • Research on intelligent robot is in active progress as the next generation IT education area. Since intelligent robots are closely related to the real human world, they should provide human behaviors or judging ability as their functions. For this reason, research is recently done not only on diverse hardware of robot education but also on service component architecture which includes various functions. In this paper we propose a study on learning to creative solve problems using RDS(Robotics Developer Studio). RDS is a software tool to control or program intelligence robot as a software module. Using service component framework which considers standardization of the integrated development of intelligent robot, we expect to provide 3-dimensional visual simulation environment, and save time and costs in education the environment for the intelligence robot experiment.
