Loss-Coupled DEB LD집적 Mach-Zehnder 간섭계형 파장 변환기 (All-optical mach-zehnder interferometric wavelength converter monolithically integrated with loss-coupled DFB probe source)

  • 단일 모드 광원이 집적된 Mach-Zehnder간섭계형 파장 변환기를 제작하여 세계 최초로 10 Gb/s에서 파장 변환 특성을 확인하였다. 제작된 파장 변환기는 수동 도파로 영역에서의 전파 손실을 줄이기 위해 undoped InP층이 수동 도파로 위에 형성된 새로운 BRS 구조를 사용하였다. 단일 모드 광원으로 손실 결합형 분포 궤환형 반도체 레이저(loss-coupled distributed feedback laser; LC-DFB LD)를 사용하여, 파장 변환기에 있는 반도체 광증폭기의 주입전류가 200 mA까지 측모드 억제율이 30 dB 이상의 값을 나타내었다. 제작된 LC-DFB LD 집적 파장 변환기는 10 Gb/s의 동적 파장 변환 특성 측정 결과, 7 dB 정도의 소광비를 갖는 eye 패턴을 얻을 수 있었으며, power penalty는 $10^{-9}$ bit error rate에서 2.8 dB의 값을 나타내었다.

  • OEIC(Optoelectronic Integrated Circuit)'s can be integrated horizontally or vertically. Horizontal integration approach is, however, more immune to parasitic and more universally applicable. In this paper, a structural modeling, fabrication and characterization of PIN photodiodes which can be used in the horizontal integration are performed. For device modeling, we build a transmission line model from 2-D device simulation, from which lumped model parameters are extracted. The speed limits of the PIN photodiodes can also be calculated under various structural conditions from the model. Thus optimum design of horizontally integrated PIN photodiodes for high speed operation are possible. Such InGaAs/InP PIN photodiodes for long-wavelength communications are fabricated using pit etch, epi growth, planarization, diffusion and metallization processes. Planarization process using both RIE and wet etching and diffusion process using evaporated Zn$_{3}P_{2}$ film are developed. Characterization of the fabricated devices is performed through C-V and I-V measurements. At a reserve bias of 10V, the dark current is less than 5nA and capacitance is about 0.4pF. The calculated bandwidth using the measured series resistance and capacitance is about 4.23GHz.

난방시스템 및 개구부의 통합제어를 위한 규칙기반제어법 및 인공신경망기반제어법의 성능비교 (Development of Integrated Control Methods for the Heating Device and Surface Openings based on the Performance Tests of the Rule-Based and Artificial-Neural-Network-Based Control Logics)

  • This study aimed at developing integrated logic for controlling heating device and openings of the double skin facade buildings. Two major logics were developed-rule-based control logic and artificial neural network based control logic. The rule based logic represented the widely applied conventional method while the artificial neural network based logic meant the optimal method. Applying the optimal method, the predictive and adaptive controls were feasible for supplying the advanced thermal indoor environment. Comparative performance tests were conducted using the numerical computer simulation tools such as MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory) and TRNSYS (Transient Systems Simulation). Analysis on the test results in the test module revealed that the artificial neural network-based control logics provided more comfortable and stable temperature conditions based on the optimal control of the heating device and opening conditions of the double skin facades. However, the amount of heat supply to the indoor space by the optimal method was increased for the better thermal conditioning. The number of on/off moments of the heating device, on the other hand, was significantly reduced. Therefore, the optimal logic is expected to beneficial to create more comfortable thermal environment and to potentially prevent system degradation.

  • TSV는 그동안 3D IC 적층을 하는데 핵심 기술로 많이 연구되어 왔고, RC delay를 줄여 소자의 성능을 향상시키고, 전체 시스템 사이즈를 줄일 수 있는 기술로 각광을 받아왔다. 최근에는 TSV를 전기적 연결이 아닌 소자의 열관리를 위한 구조로 연구되고 있다. TSV를 이용한 liquid cooling 시스템 개발은 TSV 제조, TSV 디자인 (aspect ratio, size, distribution), 배선 밀도, microchannel 제조, sealing, 그리고 micropump 제조까지 풀어야 할 과제가 아직 많이 남아있다. 그러나 TSV를 이용한 liquid cooling 시스템은 열관리뿐 아니라 신호 대기시간(latency), 대역폭(bandwidth), 전력 소비(power consumption), 등에 크게 영향을 미치기 때문에 3D IC 적층 기술의 장점을 최대로 이용한 차세대 cooling 시스템으로 지속적인 개발이 필요하다.

기본비행훈련장치(BATD)의 효율적 활용과 비행교육 효과 분석 (The Effective Use of Basic Aviation Training Device (BATD) andthe Analysis of Flight Training Effectiveness)

  • A method to increase the effectiveness of flight training at a low cost by applying the correct flight training method to students without flight experience is a very important factor. BATD equipped with an extended display device enables the proper cross-check of external references and internal instruments by integrated flight instruction methods, enabling effective flight training in the initial stages. In addition, BATD employs the Cessna 172 model with Glass Cockpit to help make it easy to apply to actual flights. As a result of analyzing the effect of flight training through a survey of students who completed the BATD practice lecture, it was very helpful to understand the theories related to flight that they had already learned, and they responded that they could easily adapt to all flight subjects in additional FTD practice lectures. Therefore, a well-planned BATD practice lecture will be easy to adapt to real flight training, which will have significant effects in reducing time and cost.

  • In this paper, we develop a gesture-based input device equipped with accelerometers and gyroscopes. The sensors measure the inertial measurements, i.e., accelerations and angular velocities produced by the movement of the system when a user is inputting gestures on a plane surface or in a 3D space. The gyroscope measurements are integrated to give orientation of the device and consequently used to compensate the accelerations. The compensated accelerations are doubly integrated to yield the position of the device. With this approach, a user's gesture input trajectories can be recovered without any external sensors. Three versions of motion tracking algorithms are provided to cope with wide spectrum of applications. Then, a Bayesian network based recognition system processes the recovered trajectories to identify the gesture class. Experimental results convincingly show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed gesture input device. In order to show practical use of the proposed input method, we implemented a prototype system, which is a gesture-based remote controller (Magic Wand).

Advanced atomic force microscopy-based techniques for nanoscale characterization of switching devices for emerging neuromorphic applications

  • Neuromorphic systems require integrated structures with high-density memory and selector devices to avoid interference and recognition errors between neighboring memory cells. To improve the performance of a selector device, it is important to understand the characteristics of the switching process. As changes by switching cycle occur at local nanoscale areas, a high-resolution analysis method is needed to investigate this phenomenon. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is used to analyze the local changes because it offers nanoscale detection with high-resolution capabilities. This review introduces various types of AFM such as conductive AFM (C-AFM), electrostatic force microscopy (EFM), and Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) to study switching behaviors.

폴리머 상부클래드를 이용한 온도무의존 AWG 파장분할 다중화 소자의 설계 및 제작 (Design and fabrication of temperature-independent AWG-WDM devices using polymer overcladding)

  • 양의 열광학 계수를 갖는 실리카를 하부클래드 및 코아에 그리고 음의 열광학 계수를 갖는 폴리머를 상부클래드에 적용한 AWG(Arrayed Waveguide Grating) 파장분할 다중화 소자에 대하여 이차원 스칼라 유한차분법(Scalar Finite Difference Method; SFDM)으로 온도의존 특성을 분석한 결과, 클래드의 굴절률을 변화시키거나 실리카 코어 상부에 실리카 박막이 존재하는 구조에서 박막의 두께를 변화시켜 온도의존 특성을 조절할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 해석결과에 근거하여 폴리머 상부클래드가 적용된 AWG 소자를 제작하였으며 기존의 실리카 AWG 소자와 특성을 비교분석하였다. 폴리머 상부클래드의 도입에 의해 삽입손실 및 크로스톡은 큰 변화가 없었으나 중심파장의 온도의존성은 0.0130 nm/$^{\circ}C$에서 0.0028 nm/$^{\circ}C$ 수준으로 감소하였다.

MR 브레이크를 이용한 햅틱 큐 가속페달 장치 설계 및 제어 (Design and Control of Haptic Cue Device for Accelerator Pedal Using MR Brake)

  • This paper proposes a new haptic cue vehicle accelerator pedal device using magnetorheological(MR) brake. As a first step, an MR fluid-based haptic cue device is devised to be capable of rotary motion of accelerator pedal. Under consideration of spatial limitation, design parameters are optimally determined to maximize control torque using finite element method. The proposed haptic cue device is then manufactured and integrated with accelerator pedal. Its field-dependant torque is experimentally evaluated. Vehicle system emulating gear shifting and engine speed is constructed in virtual environment and communicated with the haptic cue device. Haptic cue algorithm using the feed-forward control algorithm is formulated to achieve optimal gear shifting in driving. Control performances are experimentally evaluated via feed-forward control strategy and presented in time domain.
