  • Cellulose insulation is primarily manufactured from recycled newsprint and treated with fire retardants for the fire resistance. Thanks to the fire retardants, it is not combustible and flammable. In addition to that, Its thermal resistance is much better than that of fiberglass or rock wool. It is made from waste paper and easily decayed when it is demolished, and it has small embodied energy. So it is very environment-friendly building material. For broader use of cellulose insulation in buildings in Korea, it is necessary to test its physical performance to compare the results with the requirements on the Korean Building Code. To this end, apparent thermal conductivity (ka) measurements of Korean-made loose-fill cellulose insulations were recently completed using equipment that was built and operated in accordance with ASTM C 518 and the fire resistance was tested in accordance with ASTM C 1485. Korean loose-fill cellulose has thermal conductivity about 5% greater than the corresponding U.S. product at the same density. This is likely due to differences in the recycled material being used. Both spray-applied and loose-fill cellulose insulation lose about 1.5% of their thermal resistivity for $5.5^{\circ}C$ increase in temperature. The fire resistance of cellulose insulation is increased in linear proportion to the increase of the rate of fire retardant. Thanks to the high fire resistance, cellulose insulation can be used as a substitution of Styrofoam or Urethane foam which is combustible. The thermal conductivity of cellulose insulation was $0.037-0.043W/m{\cdot}K$ at the mean specimen temperature from $4-43^{\circ}C$. It corresponds to the thermal resistance of "Na Grade" according to the Korean Building Code. The effect of chemical content on thermal conductivity was negligible for all but the chemical-free specimen which had the highest value for the thermal conductivity over the temperature range tested. The thermal resistance of cellulose insulation is better than that of fiberglass or rock wool, and its fire resistance is higher than that of Styrofoam or Urethane foam. Therefore it can be substituted for those above considering its physical performance. Cellulose insulation is no more expensive than Styrofoam or rock wool, so it is recommended to use it more widely in Korea.

  • Electrical characteristic of tracking resistance, volume resistance, insulation breaking strength etc. and mechanical characteristic are required to high voltage insulation insulator silicone rubber. Tracking resistance is adding much ATH to improve tracking resistance as the most important factor among them. But, there is problem that mechanical strength grows worse rapidly adding much ATH. Therefore, this research studied effect that flame retardant gets to tracking resistance during factor that influence to tracking resistance.

  • In this paper, Fire resistance test was carried out to obtain class H-120 thermal insulation of fire dampers according to a hydrocarbon fire conditions. Specimens were fabricated three different types according to the change of the insulation system applied to damper blade and coaming which were measured surface temperature by performing the fire resistance test. As a test result, specimen-1, 2 of an uninsulated damper blade were exceeded thermal insulation acceptance criteria at 21 minutes, 46 minutes respectively, but specimen-3 of an insulated damper blade was satisfied thermal insulation acceptance criteria during 120 minutes. The test results showed that the insulation of the damper blade is an important factor in the fireproof performance of fire dampers concerning the coaming length minimum 500 mm on the unexposed side as specified test standard.

  • There are two kinds of ground fault diagonosis system(GFD), which are for AC and DC power line. The ground fault current of a DC power line Is, first, analyzed for a description of a GFD system for DC power line and then the construction method of the GFD system, which could be processed and analyzed a ground fault current, are explained. Main functions of the system are that the detected ground fault current could be converted to the line insulation resistance by a program and saved in the system memory continuously. Finally a DC power line insulation safety could be decide by a change of the saved Insulation resistance for a given time. This system can detect the ground fault resistance to 100㏀.

  • This study presents an approach to predict insulation resistance failure of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) using non-linear modeling. A capacitance aging model created by non-linear modeling allowed for the prediction of insulation resistance failure. The MLCC data tested under temperature-humidity-bias testing conditions showed that a change in capacitance, when measured against a capacitance aging model, was able to provide a prediction of insulation resistance failure.

  • Dielectrics which do not lose their high insulation resistance in reducing atmosphere are necessary for multilayer ceramic capacitors with Ni internal electrode. In this study we investigated the Ca ion site occupancy in A-site excess Ca-doped BaTiO3 by measuring the insulation resistance, lattice constant and Curie temperature. Its Curie temperature, which was lower than that of the pure BaTiO3, was more lowered by sintering in reducing atmosphere. Lattice constnat of c-axis decreased and that of a-axis increased, suggesting substitution of Ca ions for Ti ions. Hence CaTi" acts as an acceptor to maintain high insulation resistance.ance.

  • This study evaluated the contact resistance, insulation resistance, withstand voltage characteristics and insertion force, etc., of the wire connector used inside an integrated LITE WAY lighting fixture developed for efficient installation. Since the connector connecting the lighting fixture's internal wires is housed, it is easily connected and separated and has a structure enabling a close-fitting connection. The temperature and time applied to the high temperature characteristics test of the connector are $105^{\circ}C$ and 16 hours, respectively. The measured contact resistance of the high temperature tested connector was 3.258 mV/A, and its measured insulation resistance was greater than $10\;G{\Omega}$ All specimens demonstrated uniform insulation characteristics, which could be seen to be in good condition. From the withstand voltage test results found before and after performing the high temperature operation test on the connector for cable connection, it was confirmed that the withstand voltage characteristics between all terminals were good. The insertion force of the connector connecting the internal wiring averaged 9.67 kgf. It was observed that the insertion force between the plug housing and the female terminal, and that between the plug housing and the male terminal, were 0.680 kgf and 1.27 kgf on average, respectively.

  • The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of air velocity on the thermal resistance of wool ensembles. Three suits for men with different weaving structure and density were made with the same design and size for the study. In addition, Y-shirt, underwear, and socks were prepared for constructing the ensembles. Thermal insulation of air layer and 3 ensembles were measured by using thermal manikin in environmental chamber controlled at 2$0^{\circ}C$ and 65% RH with various air velocity. The results were as follows: 1. Thermal resistance of air layer was 0.079 m2.$^{\circ}C$/W with no air velocity(less than 0.2m/sec). 2. Thermal resistance of air layer decreased with increasing the air velocity rapidly. When the air velocity was 0.25 and 2.89 m/sec, the decreasing rate was 15% and 61%, respectively compared with no air velocity. 3. While there was little difference among the effective thermal insulation of 3 ensembles having different weaving structure and density with no air velocity, there was sharp difference among them when the air velocity increased. That is, the decreasing rate of effective thermal insulation of the ensemble which has higher air permeability was higher. 4. The decreasing rates of the effective thermal resistances of plain, twill and satin ensemble were 61, 54, and 49%, respectively when the air velocity was 2.89 m/sec which was a maximum air velocity in this study.

  • A numerical model, in the form of a computer program, for evaluating the fire resistance of insulated wide-flange steel columns is presented. The three stages associated with the thermal and structural analysis in the calculation of fire resistance of columns is explained. The use of the computer program for tracing the response of an insulated steel column from the initial pre-loading stage to collapse, due to fire, is demonstrated. The validity of the numerical model used in the program is established by comparing the predictions from the computer program with results from full-scale fire tests. Details of fire tests carried out on wide-flange steel columns protected with ceramic fibre insulation, together with results, are presented. The computer program can be used to evaluate the fire resistance of protected wide-flange steel columns for any value of the significant parameters, such as load, section dimensions, column length, type of insulation, and thickness of insulation without the necessity of testing.
