  • National Geotechnical Information Database Project based on GIS has begun as public works and continued until now, the whole of country has been target on since the 2003. Today, the 60,581 number of geotechnical data(counted by bering number) have been constructed as GIS-DB and they are being serviced at the National Geotechnical Information Integration Management System(NGIIMS)(http://www.geoinfo.or.kr). In this study, we considered operation status of NGIIMS, GIS-DB distribution of Geotechnical Information and utilization in order to investgate applicability of National Geotechnical Information Database. The results appeared that Geotechnical Information DB was along road-center, and in the case of complex, was only to some area. But after the 2007 when the law of computerization responsibility would be institutionalized, the more geotechnical data will be constructed and be able to use at a construction site.

  • The paper deals with the analysis for improving evaluation system of government-supported program in developing engineering college. I think that it is important to consider evaluation system of government-supported program and faculty in the aspect of policy responsibility and autonomy. I suggest three proposals. First, in the perspective of evaluation system of government-supported program, it is important to keep the balance between SCI-based evaluation and practical & University Industry Corporation (UIC) indicator or keep the balance between quantitative indicators and qualitative indicators. Second, in the perspective of evaluation system of faculty, UIC-friendly evaluation system should be expanded and institutionalized. Finally, the evaluation systems should be not only built, but also utilized for developing engineering college.

  • Child care in Korea has been officially institutionalized due to the legislation of the Child Care Act in 1991. Since then, the predominant social phenomena such as growing female workforce, more intensified female education, and the low birth rates have led the stronger demand for child care at the national level. Accordingly, the supply of child care services and the demand of families using the services have increased dramatically, producing enhancement of the quality of child care via improved and extended laws and regulations. Such movements have arisen academic interests and policy issues to specific sectors with details including child care policies, curriculum and professionals working with young children at child care centers, needs of children and their families attending child care centers, and program evaluations.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore factors that influence care dependency of institutionalized patients with dementia. Method: This study utilized descriptive correlational design. The convenience sample was composed of 110 residents with dementia of two long-term care facilities in Korea. Stepwise multiple regression was used to identify significant factors influencing care dependency in patients with dementia. Care dependency was measured using the Care Dependency Scale, Korean version(CDS-K). Cognition was measured by the MMSE-K. Functional disability was measured by the PULSES Profile. Behavioral dysfunction was measured by the modified E-BEHAVE AD. Result: Care dependency was significantly influenced by cognition, functional disability, behavioral dysfunction, and duration of dementia. This regression model explained 61 % of the variances in care dependency. Cognition explained 37% of the variances, and functional disability explained 21% of the variances. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that professional caregivers intervene more effectively in caring for their patients with dementia by recognizing the patients cognitive, functional, behavioral disability, and its periodic change. Individually, remaining abilities-focused intervention should be applied to enhance patient to be dependent and to prevent unnecessary independency.

From November 1987, through December 1987, 1,054 individuals aged over 65 years from the sampled of clustered random sampling method were interviewed in person. The physical disability findings support the well known relationship between physical disability and age. The magnitude of disability, however, is not as great as conventional wisdom might suggest. And this paper reports results on the prevalence of social disability : housekeeping transportation, food prepatation, grocery shopping, social interaction, intellectual activity, and social role. The magnitude of social disability increase with advancing age. Women, in general, report a higher degree of social disability than man. These findings are compared with other investigations of physical and social disability among the elderly.
