Factors related to Institutional Children's Social Competence (시설아동의 사회적 능력에 관한 변인 연구: 정서지능과 학교생활만족도를 중심으로)

  • This study examined effects of emotional intelligence and satisfaction of school life on the social competence of institutional children. Data were collected from institutional children of 300 10-12 year old and questionnaire measures were employed. Data were analyzed by t-test, pearson's correlation and multiple regression analyses. Relationships were found between emotional intelligence and social competence as well as satisfaction of school life and social competence. Components of emotional intelligence and satisfaction of school life that predicted social competence were emotional facilitation of thinking and personal relationship between friends. Degree of personal relationship between friends was the most powerful predictor of institutional children's social competence.

  • We find that institutional quality of an individual country was highly and significantly correlated with its economic performance in the euro area. We argue that governance reforms proposed at present do not suffice to resolving the fundamental problems of the EMU governance system unless disparities of institutional quality in member states are dissolved. Regarding regional integration, East Asia is far behind the Eurozone not only in institutional elements of the governance system but also in institutional quality at the level of individual nations.

  • This research tests the effects of institutional pressures, the use of performance measurement systems and accountability, and moderation effects of human resource capability between institutional pressures and the use of performance measurement systems in the Local Government institutions in Indonesia. The research aims to provide empirical evidence both quantitatively and qualitatively that isomorphism institutional pressures occurred in the scope of implementation of the performance measurement system and accountability in the public sector organizations and to show the importance of human resource capability enhancement in reducing external pressure impact. In addition, it tries to develop the correlation model of institutional pressures, human resource capability, implementation of the performance measurement system, and accountability of public sector organizations. The research used mixed methods with sequential explanatory design. The data collection used surveys and interviews in 209 regency/Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java local governments as samples. The research result indicated that the institutionalization process of the performance measurement is influenced by institutional pressures, especially coercive and mimetic pressures. Human resource capability was unable to weaken institutional pressures effects in the performance measurement system implementation. The research also proved that the use of a performance measurement system was able to improve local government institution accountability.

Audit Committee, Board of Independent Commissioner, and Institutional Ownership on Earnings Quality with Strengthening of Earnings Growth

  • Purpose: Thisstudy aimsto analyze the distribution of audit committee, independent board of commissioners, and institutional ownership on earnings quality with strengthening earnings growth. Research Design data and Methodology: This quantitative research uses a comparative causal approach. The research population consists of manufacturing companies in the basic and chemical industry sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2016-2022. Samples were obtained as many as 112 using purposive sampling method. The analysis technique to test the hypothesis uses multiple linear regression tests and moderation tests with an absolute difference approach. Results: The results showed that the audit committee and board of commissioners provide a significant positive distribution on earnings quality, while institutional ownership provides a significant negative distribution on earnings quality. Earnings growth strengthens the distribution of the audit committee and independent board of commissioners on earnings quality. However, earnings growth does not strengthen the distribution of institutional ownership on earnings quality. Conclusions: Audit oversight from audit committee and management performance oversight from the independent board of commissioners improves the credibility of earnings quality. Management oversight from institutional ownership reduces earnings quality. The interaction of earnings growth with maximum supervision can improve earnings quality, except for supervision from institutional ownership.

  • This study is to design aged institutional household on a small scale, also the purpose of this study is to provide basic material for management of small scale institutional household and policy establishment that could help the aged well-being. Design of research is accomplished after the review of related literatures.   • Since the beginning of 2015, corporate social responsibility (CSR) models have been changing in connection with the trend towards the transition of joint value creation of corporate activities and consideration of stakeholders' interests. The purpose of the academic paper lies in empirically studying the current practice of social responsibility of transnational corporations (TNCs). The research methodology has combined the method of qualitative analysis, the method of cases of agricultural holdings in emerging markets within the framework of resource theory, institutional theory and stakeholders' theory. The results show that the practice of CSR is integrated into the strategy of sustainable development of TNCs, which determine the methods, techniques and forms of communication, as well as areas of stakeholders' responsibility. The internal practice of CSR is aimed at developing norms and standards of moral behaviour with stakeholders in order to maximize economic and social goals. Economic goals are focused not only on making a profit, but also on minimizing costs due to the potential risks of corruption, fraud, conflict of interest. The system of corporate social responsibility of modern TNCs is clearly regulated by internal documents that define the list of interested parties and stakeholders, their areas of responsibility, greatly simplifying the processes of cooperation and responsibility. As a result, corporations form their own internal institutional environment. Ethical norms help to avoid the risks of opportunistic behaviour of personnel, conflicts of interest, cases of bribery, corruption, and fraud. The theoretical value of the research lies in supplementing the theory of CSR in the context of the importance of a complex, systematic approach to integrating the theory of resources, institutional theory, theory of stakeholders in the development of strategies for sustainable development of TNCs, the practice of corporate governance and social responsibility.

  • This study examines the necessity of establishment of Institutional Household Manager(IHM) system and the development of the curricula for IHM. It suggests that the establishment of IHM system meets the needs of the times. And it also shows that two kinds of curricula model for IHM can be developed : the one is specialized curricula model and the other is integrated curricula model. The specialized model emphasizes the specialization of institutional household management and is consisted of the acquisition of 4 required and 3 optional subjects and field practices. The integrated model makes a point of integration of other majors and is composed of the acquisition of 2 required and 5 optional subjects and field practices.

The Type of Elder Care Arrangements and its Consequences for Mental Health Among Physically Frail Elderly (부양형태에 따른 신체취약 노인들의 정신건강)

  • This study focuses on the type of elder care arrangements and its consequences for mental health among physically frail elderly. Based on data from 410 frail older people, this study reveals the following results: (1) Frail elderly in family caregiving situation shows better mental health in terms of depression and psychological well-being than those in self-care or public institutional situation, (2) but this positive effect of family caregiving on mental health, especially depression, among older people is partly explained by the differences in income and marital status among older people in different caregiving situations, (3) the factors which are significantly related to mental health of older people are income in family caregiving situation, and education in both self-care situation and institutional situation. The results of the study emphasize the importance of family resources in family caregiving situation and of personal resources in self7are or institutional situation.

The Effects of Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Absorptive Capabilities on the Economic Growth of the Lao People's Democratic Republic

  • The paper examines the effects of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on the economic growth of Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) between 1993 and 2015. The investigation is based on the influence of growth and economic absorptive capability determinants such as human capital, trade openness, and institutional quality. The methodological analysis uses a multivariate framework accounting capital stock, labor stock, FDI, human capital, trade openness, and institutional quality in regression of the Vector Autoregressive model. Augmented Dickey-Fuller unit root test, Johansen Cointegration test, and Granger Causality test were applied as parts of the econometric time-series analysis approach. The empirical results demonstrate the positive effects of FDI and trade openness, and the negative effects of human capital and institutional quality on the economic growth of the Lao PDR over the 1993 to 2015 period. The findings confirm that trade openness complemented by a sufficient level of infrastructure, education, quality institutions, and transparency significantly influence economic growth and attract more FDI. Research results lend credence to the need for the Lao PDR's government to focus on improving its economic absorptive capability and economic competitiveness regionally and globally by improving wealth and resource management strategies, as failure to take this course of action could lead to the Dutch Disease effects.

School Adjustment and Future Time Perspectives of Children in Institutional Care According to Their Role Models (시설보호아동의 역할모델에 따른 학교적응 및 미래관의 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference in school adjustment and future time perspectives, according to the characteristics in regards to the role models of the children in institutional facilities. Data for this study were obtained from a survey conducted on 310 children aged 11-13. Data were analyzed using various statistical methods such as frequency analysis, chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and one-way ANCOVA. The main findings of this study were as follows. First, overall, the majority of children selected entertainers and celebrities as their role models. Also, we found differences in children's school adjustment according to their background variables (gender, staying with their siblings, and having parents alive). Second, having role models was significantly related to the levels of school adjustment as well as the positive future time perspectives of the children. Based on the results, practical implications for children in institutional care were discussed.
