  • This paper proposing the use of the Instantaneous reactive power method as a harmonic detection method for a single phase active filter system. This method is to detect harmonic components through d-q frame approach. The conventional use of d-q frame approach for a 3-phase system Is extended to the single phase system. The proposed system uses a multi-level inverter for harmonic compensation and the inverter is connected to the input side without using transformers. The proposed algorithm is verified by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper presents a new control method of single-phase active power filter (APF) for the compensation of harmonic current components in nonlinear loads. To facilitate the possibility of complex calculation for harmonic current detection of the single phase, a single-phase system that has two phases was constructed by including an imaginary second-phase giving time delay to the load current. The imaginary phase, which lagged the load current T/4 (Here T is the fundamental cycle) is used in the conventional method. But in this proposed method, the new signal as the second phase is delayed by the filter. Because this control method is applied to a single-phase system, an instantaneous calculation was developed by using the rotating reference frames synchronized to source-frequency rather than by applying instantaneous reactive power theory that uses the conventional fixed reference frames. The control scheme of single-phase APF for the current source with R-L loads is applied to a laboratory prototype to verify the proposed control method.

  • In this paper, instantaneous reactive power compensation algorithm is proposed and analyzed. The static Var generator developed in this paper is the current source PWM converter using hysteresis comparator method, which compensates the reactive power by detecting each instantaneous phase voltage and line current, independently. Some aspects on the static Var compensator-such as inductance, capacitance, hysteresis width, and switching frequency, etc.-are discussed. The dynamic performances are examined through digital simulation and experimental test.

  • Shunt active power filter is a complete current source which can provide an effective and adjustable solution for elimination of harmonic currents in power system. Its performance depends on strategy employed in reference current generation, control technique and topology of converter used in the design.[1-2]. In this paper Three Phase Six switch Z-source rectifier with active power filtering capability based on instantaneous reactive power theory is described. Thanking to the theory power factor and THD value are significantly improved. Experiment results and conclusions are presented.

  • The mechanical informations such as the rotor speed and angle are required to operate the Cylindrical Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM). A resolver or encoder is typically used to supply the mechanical informations. This position sensor adds length to the machine, raises system cost, increases rotor inertia and requires additional devices. As the result, there has been a significant interest in the development of sensorless strategies to eliminate the position sensor. This paper presents an implementation of the new sensorless speed comtrol scheme for a PMSM. In the proposed algorithm, the line currents are estimated by a observer and the estimated speed can be yielded from the voltage equation because the information of speed is included in back emf. But the speed estimation error between the estimated and the real speeds is occured by errors due to measuring the motor parameters and sensing the line current and the input voltage. To minimize the speed estimations error, the estimated speeds are compensated by using an instantaneous reactive power in synchronously rotating reference frame. In this paper, the proposed algorithm is not affected by mechanical motor parameters because the mechanical equation is not used. The effectiveness of algorithm is confirmed by the experiments.

  • In this paper, an adaptive compensation technique for parameter variation is proposed which can perform quick torque response in vector control of an induction motors. To solve the problem of control performance degradation due to parameter variation in an induction motor, a rotor resistance estimation is performed by the model reference adaptive control(MRAC). The algorithm of rotor resistance estimation is composed of the error relationship which is generated between a motor real instantaneous reactive power and an estimated instantaneous reactive power. The advantage of such a real reactive power reference model is independence of the motor parameter variation. The estimation rotor resistance values are applied to the direct vector control system with a flux observer. Finally, the simulations and experiment are presented to validate the rotor resistance estimation algorithm of induction motor.
