  • Thermal performance of a heat sink for an inverter power stack was analyzed in terms of array and installation location of an Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT). Thermal flow around the heat sink was calculated with a numerical model that could simulate forced convection. Thermal performance was calculated depending on the array and location of high- and low-power IGBTs considering the maximum temperature of IGBT. The optimum array and installation location were found and causes were analyzed based on results of numerical analysis. For the numerical analysis, experiment design considered the installation location of IGBT, ratio of heat generation rates of high- and low-power IGBTs, and velocity of the inlet air as design variables. Based on numerical results, a correlation that could calculate thermal performance of the heat sink was suggested and the maximum temperature of the IGBT could be predicted depending on the installation method.

  • This study aims to find out the best anode location for buried pipelines. Numerical simulation program known as CATPRO (Elsyca, Belgium) were used for confirming the best location of anodes and the effects of impressed current cathodic protection system. Applied conditions for numerical simulation were similar to on-site environmental conditions for optimal application of cathodic protection system. Used criterion of cathodic protection was NACE SP 0169, which describes that minimum requirement for cathodic protection is -850mV vs. CSE. Various layouts for anodes' installation were applied, which were distance between anodes, anode installation location, and applied current. The areas where cathodic protection potential was lower than -850mV vs. CSE was limited up to 50m from anode installation locations. It was founded numerical analysis obtain cost-effective and efficient cathodic protection methods before design and application the impressed cathodic protection system to on-site environment.

  • Commercialized location estimation System with high accuracy is widely used for various services. However, if the systems aren't completely installed in an indoor, location estimation accuracy tend to be very poor. In this paper, indoor location estimation algorithm to improve the accuracy of object location, by correcting the location information obtained from a system that does not fully install, is proposed. In this paper, UWB-based Ubisense system that provides high position accuracy in an indoor environment was utilized. In conclusion, this paper was able to improve the positioning accuracy, by correcting that information about the location of the measured object in position estimation system.

  • This paper suggests the method for estimating a partial discharge (PD) location using divide of the inside transformer as a grid. The PD location is found swiftly and economically compared with the typical method detecting a PD. The reason is that the location of PD is detected in the section. The estimation of PD location is trained using the Neural Network. JavaNNS(Java Neural Network Simulator) and SNNS(Stuttgart Neural Network Simulator) are used for searching the location of PD. The simulation procedure is following, The transformer is assumed that the case is a regular hexahedron. The sensor is installed in a proper location. A section of PD location is set as a target, and training set is studied with several PD locations in the inside of the transformer. As a result of training process, the learning capability of neural network is excellent. The PD location is detected by division of internal structure of transformer and application of neural network.

  • In this study, a method for selection of the location and number of monitoring sensors in a building structure using artificial neural networks is proposed. The acceleration-history values obtained from the installed accelerometers are defined as the input values, and the mass and stiffness values of each story in a building structure are defined as the output values. To select the installation location and number of accelerometers, several installation scenarios are assumed, artificial neural networks are obtained, and the prediction performance is compared. The installation location and number of sensors are selected based on the prediction accuracy obtained in this study. The proposed method is verified by applying it to 6- and 10-story structure examples.

  • We consider the development of an integer programming model and algorithm for the ATM switching node location problem. There are two kinds of facilities, hub facilities and remote facilities, with different capacities and installation costs. Each customer needs to be connected to one or more hub facilities via remote facilities, where the hub(remote) facilities need to be installed at the same candidate installation site of hub(remote) facility. We are given a set of customers with each demand requirements, a set of candidate installation sites of facilities, and connection costs between facilities, We need to determine the locations to place facilities, the number of facilities for each selected location, the set of customers who are connected to each installed hub facilities via installed remote facilities with minimum costs, while satisfying demand requirements of each customer. We formulate this problem as a general integer programming problem and solve it to optimality. In this paper, we develop a branch-and-cut algorithm with path variables. In the algorithm, we consider the integer knapsack polytope and derive valid inequalities. Computational experiments show that the algorithm works well in the real world situation. The results of this research can be used to develop optimization algorithms to solve capacitated facility location problems.
