Investigation Research of Originality and Modernity on Japanese Traditional Textiles' Design (일본 전통 염직디자인의 고유성 및 현대성 조사 연구)

  • Modern Japan has been known as the country manufacturing Shin-gosen that denotes Japanese synthetic fiber. Japan has long traditon of weaving and dyeing of local traditional Textiles. Japanese traditional weaving and dyeing methods have been handed down through hundred years and various type of textiles have been fabricated in different regions. Japanese modern worldly famous fashion designers are recognized by using the Japanese traditional textiles. Traditional textiles of Japan are inherited in the present age and become the source of inspiration for modern Japanese fashion designers. This research investigated the originality and modernity of 10 kinds of main Japanese traditional textiles by design servey, 5kinds of weaving methods and 5kinds of dyeing methods. The 5kinds weaving methods include Kasuri, Shima, Cizimi, Zohu, Chumugi and 5kinds dyeing methods include Izome, Katazome, Tuzukaki, Uzen, Shibori dyeing.

Zigbee Based Wireless Respiration Monitor System (지그비 통신 기반의 근거리 무선 호흡모니터 시스템)

  • Abdominal circumference changes due to breathing by the respiratory muscle activity such as diaphragm, which would partially represent the lung volume variation. The present study introduced conductive rubber molded in a cord shape incorporated with a patient's pants. The conductive rubber cord operated as a displacement transducer to measure the lung or abdominal volume changes. Signal extraction circuitry was developed to obtain the volume and its derivative(or the flow) signals followed by wireless transmission based on the Zigbee communication protocol in a size of $65mm{\times}105mm$ easily put in pocket. Breathing frequency was accurately evaluated and breath pattern analysis seemed feasible, since respiratory behaviours such as maximal inspiration and cough were well identified. Remote wireless receiver module also enabled to monitor both volume and flow signals during resting breathing on a PC terminal.

Design of steel frames by an enhanced moth-flame optimization algorithm

  • Structural optimization is one of the popular and active research areas in the field of structural engineering. In the present study, the newly developed moth-flame optimization (MFO) algorithm and its enhanced version termed as enhanced moth-flame optimization (EMFO) are employed to implement the optimization process of planar and 3D steel frame structures with discrete design variables. The main inspiration of this optimizer is the navigation method of moths in nature called transverse orientation. A number of benchmark steel frame optimization problems are solved by the MFO and EMFO algorithms and the results are compared with those of other meta-heuristics. The obtained numerical results indicate that the proposed EMFO algorithm possesses better computational performance compared with other existing meta-heuristics.

  • This paper describes to design and to examine the mechanical characteristics of high frequency jet ventilator. The device consists of Phase lock loop(PLL) system, solenoid valve driving control part and Air regulating system. This study is carried out by changing several factors such as endotracheal tube(E.T. tube)diameter, injector cannula diameter, 1%, and frequency(breaths/mim.) having direct effects on the gas exchange as well as parameters of the entrained gas by venturi effects, so as to measure the tidal volume and minute volume. This system characteristics were as follows : 1) Frequency : 6-594bpm 2) Inspiration time : 1-99% 3) Variance of input air pressure : 1-30PSI.

  • An architectural practice cannot help involving a social art as its own concept. Especially school buildings are subjected to the influence of not only the educational philosophy and the national curriculum, but also the sociocultural context with the change of the times. This study aims to explore the contemporary trends of school architecture and give new inspiration to the school design practice. After it establishes the 'contemporary' school architecture as school buildings built from the second half of the 1980's to the present time, this paper classifies them into 4 categories : popularist trend, traditional and regional tendency, revival of classicism and the pursuit of art for art's sake.

  • This study proposes an optimal design for a robotic welding system for a high-strength steel armor plate. In order to identify the welding defect parameters, we analyzed the 4M (man, machine, materials, method) characteristics diagram, as well as a cause and effect matrix, to improve the productivity and quality of welding defects. From these analyses, we designed optimal welding conditions and carried out welding tests -- such as mechanical testing and macro structure tests - with positive results. We determined that it was possible to obtain a quality similar to manual welding with our robotic welding system. In the future, we expect that the system will be used as inspiration for future welding system designs.

Found Objects in Furniture Design (가구에서의 오브제 활용에 관한 연구)

  • Since Cubists represented a way of expressing image moving away from traditional illusion effect, new realities represented by collage and assemblage. Furthermore, Marcel Duchamp, a French Dadaist, suggested the concept of ready-made that everyday objects exhibited in an odd way in a gallery. These early fine art cases highly influenced to furniture design in the second half of the twentieth century. The use of objects in contemporary furniture is closely related to the emergence of Pop Art in the late 1950s and that of Postmodernism. After the 1970s the use of found objects were frequently utilized in furniture design of all over the countries. As an ecological issue became a new consideration to furniture designers, found objects also gave a chance to use recycled materials. Even in studio furniture area which is considered wood as a major material at the early stage, many studio furniture designers began to adapt found objects in their designs as a new source of Inspiration after the 1970s. This study explored various examples of found objects in furniture design and examined the meaning of the use in different designers and regions.

Cervical lung lobe herniation in a Pekingese dog

  • An 8-year-old intact male Pekingese (weighing 13 kg) was presented for evaluation of chronic coughing. Thoracic radiography found a redundant tissue swelling (protruded on expiration and collapsed on inspiration) on the ventral neck just cranial to the thoracic inlet. Fluoroscopy also identified that the cranial portion of the right/left cranial lung lobe was seen to protrude through the thoracic inlet into the ventral neck on expiration. On the echocardiogram, there were no abnormal jets in all cardiac valves and no dilation in all cardiac chambers. Based on diagnostic imaging studies, the case was diagnosed as cervical lung lobe herniation.

  • The overall trend of the contemporary society which is characterized by the variety and de-unification shows many that object to the language system of the structuralism. The typical characteristics of deconstruction in contemporary architecture and products are deconstruction of meanings, deconstructuralism of he form by the use of material, new material, deconstruction of metaphor and way of expression, deconstruction of proportion and deconstruction of ideas. The design elements of the deconstruction are re-defying the function, changing shapes, the structures, metaphors, dening of the golden proportions and the emphasizing the kitsch elements. From the various style, the kitsch style is a phenomenon that comes from the way of representing emotion, inspiration, understanding of the popularity, and the authority of consumers for choice.
