  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effectiveness of port investment which is one of the important elements for measuring the port efficiency by using congestion approach of DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis). Congestion is said to be present when increases in inputs result in ouput reductions. Congestion approach takes the forms of weak input disposability and strong input disposability. Empirical analysis by using congestion approach in this paper identified inefficiencies in the inputs including port investment, and indicated inefficient ports like the ports of Sokcho, Gunsan, Pohang, and Seoguipo which shows the large amount of slacks with congestion especially in terms of port investment. Therefore these ports should examine the reason about the inefficiency of port investment. The main policy implication based on the findings of this study is that The Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries in Korea should introduce congestion approach when the amount of port investment to each port is decided.

  • In this paper, we propose an improved analysis of transmission power of BTHP applied into the downlink multi-user (MU) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system. On the contrary to the conventional analysis that adopts the strong interference assumption for every users in the system, the proposed analysis approximates the characteristics of the actual interference components so that provides more accurate approximation of the transmission power than that from the conventional analysis. By computer simulations, it is observed that the proposed approximation is more accurate than the conventional one, especially in the case of 4-QAM modulation.

  • This two-part paper presents a control method that allows for stable interaction of a robot manipulator with the environment. In part 1, we focus on the input ouput relationships (unstructured modeling) of the robot and environment dynamics. This analysis leads to a general condition for stability of the robot and environment taken as a whole. This stability condition, for stable maneuver, prescribes a finite sensitivity for robot and environment where sensitivity of the robot(or the environment) is defined as a mapping forces into displacement. According to this stability condition, smaller sensitivity either in robot or in environment leads to narrower stability range. In the limit, when both systems have zero sensitivity, stability cannot be guaranteed. These models do not have any particular structure, yet they can model a wide variety of industrial and research robot manipulators and environment dynamic behavior. Although this approach of modeling may not lead to any design procedure, it will allow us to understand the fundamental issues in stability when a robot interacts with an environment.

  • This study aims to measure the efficiency and productivity change of 30 domestic construction companies from 2010 to 2018 using data envelopment analysis(DEA) and Malmquist productivity index (MI). In particular, we used the number of employees, capital stock, and non-current assets as input variables, and sales and net income as ouput variables for the analysis. The dataset used for the analysis of efficiency and productivity changes is the employee profile and financial statements for the companies from 2010 to 2018. We found that the MI of the 30 companies is greater than one since 2013. This is because many years of TEC (Technical Efficiency Change) is greater than 1, which means that the productivity index increases as the TEC increases. In addition, the MI value was less than 1, which lowered the productivity of construction firms in 2018. The results of the study may help decision makers to find effective future management plans by analyzing the internal and external factors.

  • This paper computes the economic impact of handset subsidies using the recent Input-Output Tables and compares the results with other alternatives which telecommunications companies can choose. The first scenario is that telecommunications companies give handset subsidies to consumers and sales agents. The second is that the companies do not give the subsidies to them, but instead spend the same amount of subsidy on facility investment. The third is that the companies lower the prices of their mobile communications services and consumers spend the saved expenses on other goods and services. The result is that the production, value added, import, job, employment inducement coefficients of the first scenario is larger than those of the second and third scenarios. The reason is as follows. The handset subsidy results in the incentive to consumers for handset purchase or the incentive for sales agents to sell the telecommunication services of the companies. The former has larger production and import inducement effect, and the latter also has larger value-added, job, and employment inducement effect than those of other scenarios.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the spill-out effects of logistics industries among Korea, Japan and China. For this purpose, we used an International I/O table made by Asian Economic Institute of Japan, which is made up for 11 countries. At first, we transformed the I/O table for 11 countries into that for 3 countries, and then we applied the Inter-Regional Input Ouput model to find out the spill-out effects of one country's logistics investment to another country's logistics or other industries. The contribution of this study is that this paper has suggested a method how to evaluate a logistics interrelation among 3 countries by way of I/O analysis for the first time.

  • In general, the most important problem in slope stability analysis is that there is no definite way to describe the natural three-dimensional Joint network. Therefore, the many approaches were tried to anlayze the slope stability. Numerical modeling approach is one of the branch to resolve the complexity of natural system. UDEC, FLAC, and SWEDGE are widely used commercial code for the purpose on stability analysis. For the purpose on the more appropriate application of these kind of code, however, three-dimensional distribution of joint network must be identified in more explicit way. Remaining problem is to definitely describe the three dimensional network of joint and bedding, but it is almost impossible in practical sense. Three dimensional joint generation method with random number generation and the results of generation to UDEC have been applied to settle the refered problems in field site. However, this approach also has a important problem, and it is that joint network is generated only once. This problem lead to the limitation on the application to field case, in practical sense. To get rid of this limitation, Monte Carlo Simulation is proposed in this study 1) statistical analysis of input values and definition of the applied system with statistical parameter, 2) instead of the consideration of generated network as a real system, generated system is just taken as one reliable system, 3) present the design parameters, through the statistical analysis of ouput values Results of this study are not only the probability of failure, but also area of failure block, shear strength, normal strength and failure pattern, and all of these results are described in statistical parameters. The results of this study, shear strength, failure area, pattern etc, can provide the direct basement on the design, cutoff angle, support pattern, support strength and etc.

  • There are conflicts about energy price increase among government, producer, and consumer. The supplier insists on price increase for escaping running a deficit and business continuity, but the consumer concerns about worsening profitability and price rise. This study investigates the effects of energy rate increase on national economy using input-ouput(I-O) analysis. This study attempts to analyze the effects of national economy due to Coke and hard-coal, Naphtha, Gasoline, Kerosene, Light oil, Heavy oil, Liquefied petroleum gas, Electric utilities, Manufactured gas supply and Steam and hot water supply (using input-output table for the year 2011, Korea.) The results of the sectoral price changes due to a 10% increase in energy price that is obtained from the Leontief price model are presented in article. The result of this analysis is presented: The impact of the 10% increase in electricity rate on the general price level is estimated to be 0.2196%. In case of Kerosene, the impact is 0.1222%. It shows that Electric utilities are approximately 18 times larger price inducing effect as Kerosene. Also, this study indicates 3 years results sequentially to make it possible to observe trend. Then, study suggests balancing price by making each energy source adjusted.
