This study was performed for identifying the characteristics of mass gathering and human injury in mass gathering based on the literature survey and analysis of mass gathering and crowd packing. The size and density of crowd influenced the characteristics of mass gathering according to type of mass gathering. The variables and causes of human injuries of mass gathering have positive or negative influences based on the weather, attendance, duration, location, mobility, event type, crowd mood, alcohol, drug, crowd density and age. Based on the physical mechanism of crowd packing, the degree of crowd packing was influenced by crowd pressure, crowd density and lasting time. But the magnitude of pressure for pedestrian injury criteria remains for further research.

The purpose of this study is to identify the needs which are perceived by one of the familiy members who have head injury parients by traffic accidents in the intensive care units. Subjects were 70 families members of head injury patients admitted to 2 general hospitals NICU located Pusan city, 1 general hospital NICU located Ulsan city from December 1. 1998 to February 28. 1999. For this study, 70 family members were interviewed with aid of a Likert scale which was developed by researcher for this study. For development of the survey instrument, literature review and open questionnaire technique with family members and the nurses working in NICU. The 50needs-items were classified into 7 groups according to the homogeneity of the items with the support of literature review. For the content validity, the instrument was reviewed by 1 nursing professor and the internal reliability of this instrument was Cronbach alpha=0.94 which is highly accepted. Data was analyzed by a SPSS computer program. Data analysis included frequency. percentage, mean, standard variance and t-test or ANOVA. The results were as followings : 1. The general characteristics of head injury patients shows that the male was 74.3%, the female was 25.7% and age distribution shows that the fifty-fifty nine years was 30%, the highest. Of religion the buddhism was the most, The diagnosis distribution shows that epidural hematoma was 32.9% and subdural hematoma was 24.3%. The mentalility distribution shows that semicoma was 31.4% and stupor was 31.4%. Hemiplegia was 42.9% 2. The general charaterisrics of the family needs of head injury patients shows that thirty-thirty nine years was 31.4%, the highest. sex distribution shows that the male was 20%, the female was 80%. Of religion the buddism was the most. 3. The family needs of head injury patients was $3.03{\pm}0.42$, needs for the information of a patient's condition was $3.65{\pm}0.48$, the highest. And needs for the information of care and treatment was $3.48{\pm}0.48$, needs to be supplied with comfortable facilities for family was $3.04{\pm}0.66$, needs to be participate in a patient's care was $2.90{\pm}0.55$, needs to be informed about the available resources was $2.83{\pm}0.59$, needs to be supported emotionally for family was $2.79{\pm}0.55$, needs for religious assistance was $2.51{\pm}0.85$. 4. Examining the family needs of head injury patients according to patient's characteristics, mentality, plegia degree and operation were shown be variables to make an effect on the needs for the head injury patients family. At all, according to severity of head. injury, the family needs of head injury patients was high. 5. Examining the family needs of head injury patients according to their general characteristics, we could know that religion, job. income were shown to be variables to make an effect on the family needs. Through the examination it can be seen that the characteristics of head injury patients and the family needs of head injury patients. In conclusion, the family needs of head injury patients was almost same the family needs of ICU patients. Therefore we must involve the family's care of head injury patients and we must provide exact and repeated explanation, education and support the family of head injury patients. As this study was resulted in selecting the families admitted to NICU of some general hospital, we couldn't stretch the result in our favor. Therefore, continuous studies are suggested.

Background: Injury or pain in the neck can affect proprioception. People who have a reduced proprioception are easily exposed to induce injury or pain. The aim of this study was to examine the reduced proprioception among people who had lateral flexion postural habit of neck in a sitting position. Methods: Twenty subjects with lateral flexion postural habit were compared with a matched control group. Relocation errors in 30 degree rotation to the right were measured three times with and without visual information randomly. Results: Relocation errors were higher in the lateral flexion postural group than the control group with (p<.01) and without (p<.005) the visual information. Visual information didn't affect the cervical relocation errors in the abnormal and control groups. Repetition is increased the relocation errors with (p<.01) and without (p<.001) visual information. Conclusions: The results support the hypothesis that subjects with lateral flexion postural habit have incorrect perception of their head position. It is necessary to realize the possibility of injury or pain found among people with lateral flexion postural habit.

A 27 year-old man, who had a penetrating cardiac injury due to a metal fragment was transferred to our hospital. At admission, his vital signs were stable, and his chest film showed a foreign-body-like finding in the heart silhouette. We evaluated the patient with chest computed tomography and echocardiography for further information. Finally, we removed the metal fragment from the left ventricle by using a cardiopulmonary bypass.

An extensive real world in-depth crash accident data is needed to make a precise occupant injury risk prediction at crash accidents which might be a critical information from the scene of the accident in ACNS(Automatic Crash Notification System). However it is rather unfortunate that there is no such a domestic database unlike other leading countries. Therefore we propose a numerical method, i.e., crash simulation using a sled model to make a virtual database that can substitute car crash database in real world. The proposing crash injury risk prediction is validated against a limited domestic crash accident data.

Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal disease, as it extends survival and increases quality of life in these patients. However, chronic allograft injury continues to be a major problem, and leads to eventual graft loss. Early detection of allograft injury is essential for guiding appropriate intervention to delay or prevent irreversible damage. Several advanced MRI techniques can offer some important information regarding functional changes such as perfusion, diffusion, structural complexity, as well as oxygenation and fibrosis. Background: Blunt thoracic trauma in children has a high morbidity and mortality. In this study, we assessed the significance of the injury pattern, mechanism and initial status in emergency department on severity and prognosis in pediatric blunt thoracic trauma patients. Method: We retrospectively reviewed medical records and chest X-ray and CT images of 111 pediatric blunt thoracic trauma patients from October 2000 to June 2005. Data recorded age, gender, season, injury mechanism, injury pattern, associated injury, length of hospital stay and cause of death. Result: Of all 111 patients, 68 patients were injured by motor vehicle accidents, 30 were falls, 5 were motorcycle accidents, 3 were sports accidents and 5 were miscellaneous. In thoracic trauma, single injury of lung contusion were 35 patients and 32 patients had multiple thoracic injuries. Hospital stay in school age group were longer than preschool age group. The causes of death were brain injury in 9, respiratory distress in 4, and hypovolemic shock in 2 patients. Emergently transfused and mechanically ventilated patients had higher mortality rates than other patients. Patients required emergency operation and patients with multiple thoracic injuries had higher mortality rates. Conclusion: In this study, patients with combined injury, emergency transfusion, mechanical ventilation, emergency operation, multiple injuries in chest X-ray had higher mortality rates. Therefore in these pediatric blunt thoracic trauma patients, accurate initial diagnosis and proper management is required.

The fatality of rollover accidents in motor vehicle crashes is high despite their low incidence. Through the investigation of a 12-passenger van rollover accident in which 10 passengers were involved, we intend to analyze the correlation between the severity of the injury and the position of the occupants. We collected accident information from medical records, interviews, photo-images of the damaged van, field surveys, and the results of the Korean New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP). Based on the occupants' position, we classified injury sites and estimated injury severity. Passenger injury severity was evaluated by trauma score calculation. The initiation type of the rollover accident was passenger side 'fall-over' and the Collision Deformation Classification (CDC) code for the damaged van was 00TDZO3. The crash of the van involved 10 passengers, with an average age of $16.3{\pm}4.2years$. Few of the occupants had fastened seat belts at the time of the incident, and there was no airbag installed. One patient sustained severe liver injury and another was diagnosed with a fracture of the right humerus. The most common injuries were at the upper extremities and the neck. The average of Injury Severity Score (ISS) was $4.8{\pm}5.9$, and the average ISS of right-seated, mid-seated and left-seated occupants was $7.5{\pm}9.3$, $1.5{\pm}0.7$, and $3.3{\pm}2.1$ respectively (p>0.05). In the rollover (to-passenger side) accident of occupant unfastened, the average ISS of right-seated occupants (near side) was higher, but there was no statistically significant difference.

Purpose: This research was conducted to study whether the specific location of pelvic-bone fractures could increase the risk for injury to the urinary bladder, urethra, or lower gastrointestinal tract. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 234 patients with pelvic-bone fractures who visited the emergency department of Kyungpook National University Hospital from January 2004 to December 2006. The location of the pelvic-bone fracture was divided into 8 parts. The association of fracture location with injury to the urinary bladder, urethra, or lower gastrointestinal tract was analyzed with Fisher' s-exact test and multiple logistic regression. Results: Nineteen(19) patients had urinary bladder injury, 8 had urethral injury, and 9 had lower gastrointestinal tract injury. The following fracture locations were found to be significant; urinary bladder: sacroiliac (SI) joint (p<0.001), symphysis pubis (p=0.011), and sacrum (p=0.005); urethra: SI joint (p=0.020); lower gastrointestinal tract: symphysis pubis (p=0.028). After the multiple logistic regression analysis, the primary and the independent predictors for each of the injuries were as follows; urinary bladder: sacroiliac joint (p=0.000, odds ratio [OR]=10.469); lower gastrointestinal tract: symphysis pubis (p=0.037, OR=7.009). Conclusion: Consideration of further workup for injuries to the lower gastrointestinal and urinary tract is needed for some locations of pelvic-bone fractures because certain pelvic-bone fracture locations, especially the sacroiliac joint and the symphysis pubis, are associated with increased risk for injury to the lower gastrointestinal and urinary tracts.
This study aimed to identify the efficiency of short track-related sports injury prevention program consisted of muscle strength and neuromuscular training on non-contact injury incidence and characteristics in knee and ankle joints and low back for elite short track speed skaters. Twenty-five short track athletes who belonged to G-City Team were participated in this study from Nov. 2017 to Jul. 2018. Information on their sports injuries occurred were collected and injury prevention program was applied in their warm-up every training sessions and competition. Also their symptom-level of knee and ankle joint and low back were measured by using OSTRC overuse injury questionnaire and Cumberland ankle instability(CAIT). The injury incidence rate after application of prevention program was 2.79 injuries/1,000 hour exposures(HEs), which was lower than before (3.04 injuries/1,000HEs). The OSTRC score (30.89±28.34 and 23.84±23.61, respectively) in knee and low back after application of prevention program were lower than before (58.47±26.77 and 52.36±21.55, respectively), and the CAIT score (13.47±6.07) in ankle joint after application of program was higher than before (16.26±7.28), which means that their symptom-level was alleviated with sports injury prevention program. In conclusion, the sports injury prevention program designed for short track's motion and characteristic can have positive influences on the occurrence of non-contact injury for short track speed skaters.
