  • A prior fundamental study was executed using a constant volume chamber to improve the burning properties of lean pre-mixture by the injection of active radicals generated in the sub-chamber. In consequence, RI method shows remarkable progress in the aspects of burning velocity and combustible lean limit compared with SI method. In this study, the necessary additional works have been performed to be based on the former results. We changed parameters as the initial temperature and the initial pressure of mixture. And the effects of residual gas at issue in a real engine were investigated. As a result, the effects of initial temperature were significant, but on the other hand, those of initial pressure were slight. The correlation of passage hole number between overall passage hole area was grasped. And the more detailed analysis is required on residual gas.

  • This study aimed to analyze spray characteristics and the ambient flow field in the mixture preparation state of the premixed combustion stage. It is very important to understand the spray characteristics and the fuel injection conditions in direct injection diesel engine because the emission gas compositions from diesel engines are related to spray formation processes of the premixed combustion stage. The numerical simulation was performed using the STAR-CD which is a commercial CFD code. Computed results of the transient high pressure diesel spray were compared with experimental results of the same spray injection condition in the constant volume chamber. The results show that spray patterns of numerical simulation agree with this experimental results comparatively.

  • Spray structures and penetration lengths of Gasoline, M85, E85, and LPG by a GDI 6-hole fuel injector were examined in a constant volume chamber. The chamber pressure was controlled at 0.1 MPa and 0.9 MPa. The effects of fuel injection pressure and chamber pressure on the spray structures and penetration lengths were investigated using the 2-dimensional Mie scattering technique. It was found that the sprays developed linearly till ASOI 1.7ms after start of injection and vortices were happened around jets on the way of spray development. And the high chamber pressure, 0.9 MPa kept the fuel sprays development down and the penetration length was reduced to about 55% compared with that of 0.1 MPa. In additions high pressure of fuel injection, 12 MPa increased the spray penetration length more about 7~10% than that of 7 MPa.

  • For the fabrication of a multi-pole anisotropic Sr-ferrite magnet by powder injection molding, it is important to control effectively the alignment of magnetic powders during the injection molding process. The effect of the fluidity of powder/binder mixture on the powder alignment was studied with changing the particle sizes and the volume fraction of Sr-ferrite magnetic powders. The critical volume fraction of Sr-ferrite powders increases from 58 vol.% to 64 vol.% as the mean powder size increases from $0.8\;\mu\textrm{m}$ to $1.2\;\mu\textrm{m}$. A Sr-ferrite powder alignment greater than 80 % is achieved at the conditions of an apparent viscosity lower than 1000 poise at $1600\;sec^{-1}$ shear rate, an applied magnetic field higher than 4 kOe, and a powder volume fraction 8 vol.% lower than the critical fraction. The powder alignment obtained during the injection molding process is not much affected by the subsequent processes of debinding and sintering, showing the magnetic properties of 3.8 kG of remanent flux density and 3.37 kOe of intrinsic coercivity.

  • Background: Lumbar transforaminal epidural steroid injections (TFESIs) are performed to provide symptom relief in patients with radicular pain. Recent articles suggested that injected volume itself have analgesic effects and higher volumes are associated with better outcomes. To date, few studies have been conducted to investigate the effects of volume. Therefore, well-designed controlled studies were necessary to confirm the effect of volume itself on pain relief. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a forceful saline injection on lumbar TFESI using non-particulate steroids. Methods: Fifty consecutive patients with lumbar radicular pain were enrolled. The participants were allocated into one of two groups: dexamethasone with volume (Group DV) and dexamethasone alone (Group DO). The volume was delivered by a forceful injection of 5ml of normal saline. The primary end-point for this study was a VAS pain score and modified MacNab score indicating the rate of effectiveness at the four-week follow-up. Results: There were no significant post-procedural VAS differences between two groups (P = .252). The effectiveness rate among the patients was 47.8% in DV group, 34.8% in DO group, measured by modified MacNab score. The difference was not statistically significant (P = .117). Conclusions: A forceful saline injection did not have a significant effect during the treatment of radicular pain. Further studies with greater volumes and with additional techniques would offer a more conclusive perspective.

  • Ultra high pressure injection equipment was developed to estimate and analyze the spray characteristics in ultra high pressure injection. Spray patterns were visualized by schlieren method and analyzed in ultra high pressure. Spray tip penetration, spray thickness, spray volume, and entrained air mass increased with the increase of the injection pressure. But over 2,800 bars of the injection pressure region, it was shown that the rate of improvement was not increased remarkably ,and the spray characteristics such as spray penetration, volume, and entrained air mass were reversed and got worse at 4,140 bars.

  • In this study, a real-time grouting management system based on the clogging theory was established to manage injection procedure in real time. This system is capable of estimating hydraulic permeability with the passage of time as the grout permeates through the ground, and therefore, capable of estimating real time injection distance and flow rate. By adopting the Controlled Injection Pressure (CoIP) model, it was feasible to predict the grout permeation status with the elapse of time by consecutively updating the hydraulic gradient and flow rate estimated from a clogging-induced alteration of pore volume. Moreover, a method to estimate the volume of the fractured gap according to the reduction in injection pressure was proposed. The validity of the proposed system was successfully established by comparing the estimated values with the measured field data.

  • Dual-fuel engines are being researched with emphasis on the possible types of natural gas supply systems. Hence, a three-dimensional combustion model by using finite volume method was developed to provide a fundamental understanding of the auto-ignition of pilot distillate and subsequent burning of natural gas, when the natural gas as well as the distillate was directly injected into a quiescent diesel engine like combustion bomb tests and the numerical results were investigated for the mixed combustion phenomena. With high-pressure natural gas injection, it was found that the gaseous fuel injection characteristics had to be well harmonised with that of the pilot distillate. For better combustion efficiency, however, further researches are required for the optimisation of injection system in the existence of air motion.

  • Background: Botulinum toxin injection on the masticatory muscle induces the osteopenic condition on the ipsilateral condyle. Bisphosphonate suppresses bone resorption and is used to treat osteopenic or osteoporotic condition. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of bisphosphonate administration on prevention of condylar resorption and botulinum toxin A-induced disuse osteopenia in rats. Results: The volume of the condyle and bone volume/tissue volume (BV/TV, %) showed a strong tendency towards statistical significance (p = 0.052 and 0.058). Trabecular thickness (Tb.Th, mm) and trabecular number (Tb.N, 1/mm) were significantly smaller in the Botox group than in the other groups (p < 0.05). The volume of the condyle and BV/TV in the bisphosphonate 100 and bisphosphonate 200 groups showed similar values when compared with the control group. Conclusion: Bisphosphonate administration after botulinum toxin A injection in the masticatory muscles appears to prevent condyle resorption and botulinum toxin-induced disuse osteopenia in rats.

  • Purpose: In this study, GPR exploration equipment, spray vehicles and flow meters, core drill, borehole image processing system(BIPS), 3D cavity imagery equipment, and cavity formatting equipment were used to identify this cavity growth process. Method: A certain amount of water was injected in proportion to the mass of the cavity, and the cavity was observed to expand as the injected water was drained out. The cavity rating change was evaluated by quantitatively evaluating the expansion factors and the speed of growth. Results: According to the results of examining the volume change through injection time - injection flow rate - volume increase for the four experimenters, the volume increase decreased as the injection time increased, and there was no further increase in volume if injected for one hour or so. Conclusion: In addition, the injection test analyzed the volumetric variation to determine whether the cause of the cavity occurrence was the effect of the underground burial in the vicinity of the cavity. Therefore, it was found that the cavity expansion is caused by the repetition of the relaxation soil collapse due to the groundwater flow and the loss of the collapsed soil below the cavity.
