Edge cracks in cold rolling always influence to the quality of productions, while the "V" shaped cracks were propagated by passing the roll gap. We set up the sizes and shapes of initial cracks in simulation according to the references from real productions. Different to in hot rolling, the cracks in cold rolling couldn't be reduced from propagation automatically after generated, even if these could be reduced by changing the process parameters. In this paper, we described the affections of process parameters on the propagation of edge cracks, such as reduction ratio and tension. We predicted that the dependence of the cracks propagations of changing of process conditions and expected to gain the smaller edge cracks. By raising the reduction ratio, the cracks were propagated increasingly in both transverse and rolling directions. And as tension raise, the cracks became propagated in both directions in which transverse direction was less effectively.
A two-step procedure for the application of non linear constrained programming to the limit analysis of rigid brick-block systems with no-tension and frictional interface is implemented and applied to various masonry structures. In the first step, a linear problem of programming, obtained by applying the upper bound theorem of limit analysis to systems of blocks interacting through no-tension and dilatant interfaces, is solved. The solution of this linear program is then employed as initial guess for a non linear and non convex problem of programming, obtained applying both the 'mechanism' and the 'equilibrium' approaches to the same block system with no-tension and frictional interfaces. The optimiser used is based on the sequential quadratic programming. The gradients of the constraints required are provided directly in symbolic form. In this way the program easily converges to the optimal solution even for systems with many degrees of freedom. Various numerical analyses showed that the procedure allows a reliable investigation of the ultimate behaviour of jointed structures, such as stone masonry structures, under statical load conditions.
The tensegrity structure by prestressed cable, which may have large freedom in scale and form and therefore are received much attention from the view points of their light weight and aesthetics, is a very flexible and geometrically unstable structure because the cable material has little initial rigidity. For the stable self-equilibrated state of the usually very deformable structure, the method to find the optimal initial stress by the shape analysis is proposed in this paper. The proposed procedure is to derive the nonlinear finite element formula of cable and truss members considering geometric nonlinearity and used to modified load incremental method adding to Newton-Raphson method with the proposed condition for optimal initial stress. The result of the shape analysis for the tensegrity structure with the radius of 30m is shown the almost approximated shape to architectural shape and the changed procedure of initial stress

The contribution of tensioned concrete between cracks (tension-stiffening) cannot be ignored when analysing deformation of reinforced concrete elements. The tension-stiffening effect is crucial when it comes to adequately estimating the load-deformation response of steel reinforced concrete and the more recently appeared fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforced concrete. This paper presents a unified methodology for numerical modelling of the tension-stiffening effect in steel as well as FRP reinforced flexural members using the concept of equivalent deformation modulus and the smeared crack approach to obtain a modified stress-strain relation of the reinforcement. A closed-form solution for the equivalent secant modulus of deformation of the tensioned reinforcement is proposed for rectangular sections taking the Eurocode 2 curvature prediction technique as the reference. Using equations based on general principles of structural mechanics, the main influencing parameters are obtained. It is found that the ratio between the equivalent stiffness and the initial stiffness basically depends on the product of the modular ratio and reinforcement ratio ($n{\rho}$), the effective-to-total depth ratio (d/h), and the level of loading. The proposed methodology is adequate for numerical modelling of tension-stiffening for different FRP and steel reinforcement, under both service and ultimate conditions. Comparison of the predicted and experimental data obtained by the authors indicates that the proposed methodology is capable to adequately model the tension-stiffening effect in beams reinforced with FRP or steel bars within wide range of loading.
The influences of mixed strain mode of bending-tension on the critical current. Ic in externally reinforced Bi-2223 tapes and their interaction were investigated in this study. A test fixture which providing a mixed deformation mode of bending-tension to HTS tapes has been newly devised. When the total strain induced in the tape in the mixed strain mode was expressed by the superposition of the bending and tensile strains the irreversible strain for the critical current degradation of Bi-2223 tapes increased, as compared with the simple bending mode case. The $I_c$ degradation at the region exceeding the irreversible strain showed a medium between the simple bending case and the simple tension case. As the initial bending strain imparted increased , namely as the diameter of mandrel adopted decreased. the apparent irreversible strain in Bi-2223 tapes increased . but the increment became smaller As a result. it can be found that the tension to be applied to bent Bi-2223 tapes during cabling should be smaller. as the mandrel diameter becomes smaller.
Lasting machines for shoe manufacturing are continuously developed with the aid of automation and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). Adaptive lasting machine and CAD data of a shoe last are inevitably introduced for the labor-free manufacturing process. Recently, method for the CAD datarization of a shoe last is suggested using finite element mesh system. Initial set up data and control data of machine parts are required for the adaptive lasting machine. For the efficient process, grading of those data is essential to minimize data storage and production costs. In this paper, bonding lines are extracted from the CAD data of a shoe last and graded by the geometric grading system. Tension spline method is adopted for the interpolation of last CAD data. The results are compared with the results from the arithmetic grading system that is widely adopted in the shoemaking companies.
Despite of considerable research results or uniaxial tension creep available for superalloys, few studies have been made on high temperature creep using the Initial Stram Method (ISM) In this paper, the real-time prediction of high temperature creep strength and creep lift for the nickel-based superalloy Udimet 720 (high-temperature and high-pressure gas turbine engine materials) was performed on round-bar type specimens under pure static load at the temperatures of 538$^{\circ}C$. 649$^{\circ}C$, and 704$^{\circ}C$. The predictive equation derived from the ISM in creep tests showed better reliability than those from LMP (Larson-Miller Parameter) and LMP-lSM (Larson Miller Parameter-Initial Strain Method) specially for long time creep prediction (10$^3$∼10$\^$5/h).
There are many research results as individual uni-axial tension creep test of heat-resisting materials. However, there are very few about the study on the high temperature creep test for the Initial Strain Method, and especially any study on it about the friction welded joints of SUH3 to SUH35. One of the important concerns is a reliable method of evaluating static creep properties. No reliable method seems available at present to evaluate or predict static creep properties. So, the reliable method to evaluate and predict them by the ISM and AE techniques was made.

The initial clamping forces of high strength bolts subjected to different faying surface conditions drop within 500 hours regardless of loading, any other external force or loosening of the nut. This study develops a mathematical model for relaxation confined to creep on a coated faying surface after initial clamping. The quantitative model for estimating relaxation was derived from a regression analysis for the relation between the creep strain of the coated surface and the elapsed time for 744 hours. This study establishes an expected model for estimating the relaxation of bolted joints with diverse coated surfaces. The candidate bolts are dacro-coated tension control bolts, ASTM A490 bolt, and plain tension control bolts. The test parameters were coating thickness, species of coating. As for 96, 128, 168, and $226{\mu}m$ thick inorganic zinc, when the coating thickness was increased, relaxation after the initial clamping rose to a much higher range from 10% to 18% due to creep of the coating. The amount of relaxation up to 7 days exceeded 85% of the entire relaxation. From this result, the equation for creep strain can be derived from a statistical regression analysis. Based on the acquired creep behavior, it is expected that the clamping force reflecting relaxation after the elapse of constant time can be calculated from the initial clamping force. The manufacturer's recommendation of inorganic zinc on faying surface as $75{\mu}m$, appears to be reasonable.
