Description of the behavior of the R.C structural members fixed on massive concrete is not normally generalization of recognized configuration for regular R.C. design guidanes. This can be due to the complexity of evaluation of internal resistancy and deflection changes of the members subjected to the various external forces. On the base of axially loaded member fixed on footing, however, the estimation of deflection changes due to flexural force shear force and rotational force is to be carried out in ways of specifying the bond characteristics of axial bars embedded in massive concrete. This work is to quantify adhesion of steel-concrete, initial concrete cracking stress near bar rib, maximum bond stress and residual stress in concrete respectively. In addition to quantification of them for particulate behavior, the suggestions of multi-linear bond stress-slip diagram made in carrying out finite element analyses for adhesion failure, examining concrete cracking status and reviewing existing experimental data lead to alternatively constructed relationship between bond stress and slip for a axial bars embedded massive concrete.

The physical properties of rubber coated fabrics, treated by means of spreading and topping process were studied. 1. The tearing strength of the rubber coated fabrics has shown decreasing tendency in comparison with fabric itself 2. Generally, the tearing strength is inversely proportional to the adhesion. 3. The value of hydrostatic pressure is in proportion to the density and tensile strength of the fabrics. 4. The topping process shows greater difference in adhesion initial and after water immersion than spreading process.
An environmentally friendly water-based pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) was designed in an attempt to replace the solvent-based adhesive for dry lamination used in flexible food packaging films. Instead of using a low molecular weight surfactant, which may have variable material properties, a high molecular weight dispersant was used for emulsification. A polymeric nano-dispersant (PND) was synthesized using solution polymerization, and it was used as a micelle seed in the surfactant, resulting in the synthesis of a core/shell grafted acrylic adhesive. The shell and core exhibited different $T_g$ values, so that the initial adhesion strength and holding power were complemented by the film's flexibility, which is required to provide good adhesion of thin films. Results showed that the PSA designed in this study using the PND instead of traditional low molecular weight surfactant had adhesive properties applicable to the flexible packaging with appropriate tack.

The rehabilitation methods used in existing concrete box structures rely on the method of attaching the repair material to the section of the structure with a spray equipment. In the case of ceiling or wall parts, the adhesion force to the repair material may be reduced by the gravity and dead load after construction. In subway structures, vibration causes a problem that reduces the initial adhesion. Supplementary measures are needed as the quality of repair varies depending on the worker's proficiency and construction environment. In this study, mechanical pressurization equipment was developed that can apply a certain pressure after construction of a repairwork to solve problems such as reduction of adhesion of repair materials by gravity and variation of repair quality by labor work. To find out the effect of the pressurized equipment, a chamber similar to the field conditions was constructed to measure the attachment strength different from the pressurized condition, the section, and the environmental conditions. The pressurization differed from the other parts, but the adhesion strength of up to 70% was increased.
Interfacial properties and microfailure degradation mechanisms of the oxygen-plasma treated biodegradable poly(p-dioxanone) (PPDO) fiber/poly(L-lactide) (PLLA)composites were investigated for the orthopedic applications as implant materials using micromechanical technique and surface wettability measurement. PPDO fiber reinforced PLLA composite can provide good mechanical performance for long hydrolysis time. The degree of degradation for PPDO fiber and PLLA matrix was measured by thermal analysis and optical observation. IFSS and work of adhesion, $W_a$ between PPDO fiber and PLLA matrix showed the maximum at the plasma treatment time, at 60 seconds. Work of adhesion was lineally proportional to the IFSS. PPDO fiber showed ductile microfailure modes at We initial state, whereas brittle microfailure modes appeared with elapsing hydrolysis time. Interfacial properties and microfailure degradation mechanisms can be important factors to control bioabsorbable composites performance because IFSS changes with hydrolytic degradation.
The formation of hydrophilic surface based on polymers has received great attention due to the anti-adhesion of bacteria on solid substrates. Anti-adhesion coatings are aimed at suppressing the initial step of biofilm formation via non-cytotoxic mechanisms, and surfaces applied hydrophilic or ionic polymers showed the anti-adhesion effect for bioentities, such as proteins and bacteria. This is attributed to the formation of surface barrier from hydration layers, repulsions and osmotic stresses from polymer brushes, and electrostatic interactions between ionic polymers and cell surfaces. The antifouling polymer coating is usually fabricated by the grafting method through the bonding with functional groups on surfaces and the deposition method utilizing biomimetic anchors. This mini-review is a summary of representative antifouling polymers, coating strategies, and antibacterial efficacy. Furthermore, we will discuss consideration on the large area surface coating for application to public facilities and industry.
The curing behavior of a phenolic resin (F/p: 1.3, 1.9, 2.5 for resol resin, F/P: 0.5, 0.7, 0.9 for novolac resin) has been studied by FT-IR spectroscopy. In this study is to synthesis of resol and novolac type phenolic resin with different F/P molar ratios and to compare the level of cure at different curing temperature conditions ($130^{\circ}C$, $160^{\circ}C$, $180^{\circ}C$ for resol resin, $160^{\circ}C$, $170^{\circ}C$, $180^{\circ}C$ for novolac resin) for 3, 5, 7, 10, 20, and 60 (min.), respectively. The conversion (${\alpha}$) was determined by the ratio of the peak area with time to the peak area of non-baked phenolic QH ($3300cm^{-1}$) at spectra. It is concluded that the initial curing rate of resol and novolac resin was increased as the molar ratio of formaldehyde/phenol increased and as the curing temperature of resin increased. According to the analysis was by the homogenous first-order model, the initial curing rate of resol and novolac resin was increased as the molar ratio of formaIdehyde/phenol increased at specific curing temperature.

This study investigated the process quality level of a K5 gas mask, which recently acquired its operational capability, through statistical process analysis for the mass production stages and their lots. The tensile adhesion strength was the only operating requirement in the manufacturing process of the K5 gas mask. For this purpose, the results of tensile adhesion strength between the lens and facial rubber during the initial and second mass production stages were analyzed using conventional statistical and statistical process analysis methods. The conventional statistical results indicated that the second mass production stage was better than the initial mass production stage. In cases of a control chart and process capability of tensile adhesion strength, the process quality level was also improved by following the mass production stages. The improvement was caused by process stabilization and work skill elevation. These results and methods are expected to be conducted and utilized in the third mass production stage. Moreover, quality improvement of K5 gas mask mass production can be achieved using the Lean 6 sigma procedure, MDAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control).
T cell activation is initited by the interaction of T cells with antigen-presenting cells (APCs) in the context of peptide antigen. Initial conjugates are formed by binding between lymphocyte-associated antigen-l (LFA-l, also known as CD11a-CD18) and intercellular adhesion molecule-l (ICAM-1), or CD2 and LFA-3, or other pairs of interactive proteins. This study examined the shear bond strength between the zirconia core and pressed lithium disilicate veneering ceramics. The Schmitz-Schulmeyer test method was used to investigate the core-veneer shear bond strength of industrially manufactured zirconia core ceramic (Zirtooth, HASS, Gangneung, Korea) and pressed veneer ceramic (IPS e.max Zirpress, Vita PM9, GC Initial IQ, HASS Rosetta SM) (N=40). Data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (a=0.05). The fractured surfaces of the specimens were examined to determine the failure pattern using a digital microscope. The mean ± SD shear bond strength in MPa were 16.69±3.11, 14.21±3.63, 11.17±2.92, and 27.90±5.71 for IPS e.max Zirpress, VITA PM9, GC Initial IQ, and HASS Rosetta SM, respectively. The average shear bond strength was largest for HASS Rosetta SM, followed by IPS e.max Zirpress, Vita PM9, and GC Initial IQ(p<0.05). The digital microscopy examination of the fracture surface showed adhesive and cohesive failure in pressed lithium disilicate veneering ceramics. The use of lithium disilicate veneer ceramic produced a significantly higher shear bond strength.
