  • The main objective of an Information Retrieval System (IRS) is to obtain suitable information within a reasonable time to satisfy a user need. To achieve this purpose, an IRS should have a good indexing system that is based on natural language processing. In this context, we focus on the available Arabic language processing techniques for an IRS with the goal of contributing to an improvement in the performance. Our contribution consists of integrating morphological analysis into an IRS in order to compare the impact of morphological analysis with that of stemming algorithms.

  • Recently, the web sites, such as e-business sites and shopping mall sites, deal with lots of catalog image information and contents. As a result, it is required to support semantic-based image retrieval efficiently on such image data. This paper presents a semantic-based image retrieval system, which adopts XML and Fuzzy technology. To support semantic-based retrieval on product catalog images containing multiple objects, we use a multi-level metadata structure which represents the product information and semantics of image data. To enable semantic-based retrieval on such image data, we design a XML database for storing the proposed metadata and study how to apply fuzzy data. This paper proposes a system, generate the fuzzy data automatically to use the image metadata, that can support semantic-based image retrieval by utilizing the generating fuzzy data. Therefore, it will contribute in improving the retrieval correctness and the user's satisfaction on semantic-based e-catalog image retrieval.

  • In this paper, we constructed the noise robust content-based music retrieval system in mobile environment. The performance of the proposed system was verified with ZCPA feature which is blown to have noise robust characteristic in speech recognition application. In addition, new indexing and fast retrieval method are proposed to improve retrieval speed about 99% compare to exhaustive retrieval for large music DB. From the computer simulation results in noise environment of 15dB - 0dB SNR, we confirm the superior performance of the proposed system about 5% - 30% compared to MFCC and FBE(filter bank energy) feature.

  • An Information Retrieval System offers the integrated view of SCM(Supply Chain Management) information to the enterprise by making it possible to exchange data between regionally distributed heterogeneous computers and also to enable these computers to access various types of databases. The Information Retrieval System is modeled using Data Registry Model based on X3.285. We only verify the MetaData Registry Manager(MDR Manager) among the core parts using SMV(Symbolic Model Verifier) in order to verify whether our model satisfies the requirements under the given assumptions.

  • This paper suggests the condensed two-stage retrieval method for fast image retrieval in the content-based image retrieval system, and proves the validity of the performance. The condensed two-stage retrieval method reduces the overall response time remarkably while it maintains relevance with the conventional exhaustive search method. It is explained by properties of the Cauchy-Schwartz inequality. In experimental result, it turns out that there is an optimal value of condensation ratio which minimizes the overall response time. We analyze the optimal condensation ratio by modeling a similarity computation time mathematically.

  • In this paper, a multimedia database retrieval system is proposed using MPEG-7 meta data. Multimedia content based retrieval system is implemented with the MPEG-7 meta data extraction and matching technique. MPEG-7 descriptors and descriptor schemes are stored into the database with other meta data. When a query image is given, the descriptors and descriptor schemes of the query image are extracted and compared with the descriptors and descriptor schemes in the database. Finally, images having more similarity are retrieved.

  • WebChemDB is an integrated chemical database retrieval system that provides access to over 8 million publicly available chemical structures, including related information on their biological activities and direct links to other public chemical resources, such as PubChem, ChEBI, and DrugBank. The data are publicly available over the web, using two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) structure retrieval systems with various filters and molecular descriptors. The web services API also provides researchers with functionalities to programmatically manipulate, search, and analyze the data.

  • Library website is medium for connecting library information resources and users. However, searching and accessing methods to information resources in library websites and retrieval systems are mostly designed for users. So, the disabled users have difficulty accessing and using library information resources through library websites. Therefore, the author carried on current status study and analysis on the retrieval system of the national and public library websites in Korea. And then, the author proposes improvement plan in order to enhance satisfaction with information needs of disabled users and to use a basic study for construction of retrieval system of library websites for disabled users.

  • In computer-based virtual lab, a bioscience researcher who wants to obtain bio information first uses a biodiversity-related database to retrieve information on species, ecology and distribution of an organism. The researcher also needs to access gene/protein databases such as GenBank or PDB to find information on the organism's genetic sequence and protein structure. Furthermore, the researcher should search for academic papers containing the information on the organism so that his research is based on comprehensive and accurate information. This series of activities often undermines research efficiency as it takes a lot of time and causes inconvenience on the part of researchers. To solve such inconvenience, we analyzed various methods for integrated search and chosen schema integration. In addition, we analyzed each databases and extracted metadata for designing schema integration. This paper introduces a biological information retrieval system(BIRS) using schema integration and it's interface that will increase research efficiency for bioscience.

  • The paper suggests newly conceptualized information retrieval system on the notion of citation analysis. The paper also criticizes the traditional information retrieval techniques using Boolean logic. The underlying assumption of this paper is that any pair of papers cited by one paper could be strongly related each other in meaning (Co-citation Analysis). And also any two papers to share same references could be similar each other (Bibliographic Coupling), By using graph algorithm, the networks of two kinds of the papers (the citing group, the cited group) is made in the fields of the genetics and the information and library science. The results say that the maps or networks for cited and citing groups can be useful when applied to the paper set made by the broad searching by subjects or keywords.
