  • The computing environment is rapidly changing to mobile device base, with the development of computer technology. Until now, digital literacy education has been based on desktop PC education, but it is time to change it into literacy education suitable for mobile environment. In this paper, we propose a mobile-based digital literacy MoDL (Mobile Device Digital Literacy). MoDL proposes three phases. One is Mobile Based Digital Environment (MoDE), which builds a mobile digital environment, seconds is Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) class method when using it for education. Finally, MoDLI (MoDL Instruction) for learning mobile literacy is presented step by step. To verify the validity of the proposed, eight experts were surveyed so that the Content Validity Ratio was calculated. As a result, CVR was ensured in all items except for the applicability of MoDLI.

  • This article reviews the research products on user instruction of Korean university libraries. The focus is on identifying the trend, main features, and limitations of the relevant literature, with emphasis on both contents and methodology. To the end, 127 journal articles and theses are collected and analyzed, which have been produced since the mid-1970s. As a result, it is recognized the advanced research are not useful enough to be a knowledge base of Korean reference librarians, who have endeavored to improve the qualities of their user instruction programs. Above all, the advanced research turned out to be too much dependent on American theories and practices, instead of focusing on both indigenous phenomena and substantial problems which have been inherent in Korean university libraries.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal how undergraduate students' computer literacy and library knowledge can affect their frequency of library material use and information literacy, and analyze the correlations between frequency of library material use and information literacy. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires to students of 7 universities in 8 credit-given user education courses, and correlations with variables were analyzed through hypothesis testing. It was suggested that with strong support of university administration, user education should be taught by using more of scholarly library material.

  • This study was designed to compare mothers' beliefs of literacy development and home literacy environment and to explore how the children interacted with their mother during literacy activities and how they used the strategies to develop knowledge of literacy. The qualitative data was collected from multiple sources of naturalistic information and analyzed through triangulation of diverse methods including participant observations in the home, parental during literacy events, written logs kept by the mothers, the children's writing products, three emergent assessment forms, and photographs. The three preschoolers and their mothers provided different literacy experiences to support their children's emerging conventional literacy development. Child 1's mother highly valued the rich home literacy environment and the child 1's initiative interactions during literacy events. Child 3's home literacy context was very similar to her Montessori classroom's phonic approach and writing skills. Child 2 was provided with an inappropriate literacy environment at home through direct instruction and an emphasis on correct writing. All of the children were interested and attended to story. Child 1 interacted with her mother in expanded cycles as child's initiation, mother's clarification, and child's evaluation, compared with the child 2's simple cycle and the child 3's classroom-like cycle as mother's initiation, child's response, and mother's evaluation. The children and their mothers employed a number of diverse strategies to understand knowledge of literacy. Importantly parent education needs to emphasize the importance of playful one to one mother-child interaction, a functional holistic literacy environment., and strategies for expanding child's knowledge with parent as mediator.

  • Korea is a record powerhouse nation with the largest number of Memory of the World in the Asia-Pacific; however, active utilization of archives for future generations has been lacking. Therefore, this study sought to enhance interest in archives and utilize them directly in school lessons. The Korean National Debt Redemption Movement's archives, which were selected as a Memory of the World, were used in the school lessons, and based on them, a library collaborative instruction design was developed. A library collaborative instruction is a collaboration between the high school Korean history subject and the library information literacy instruction, designed in three sessions. Through the literature research-based design, a library collaborative instruction plan, teaching and learning plan, and activity sheets were derived. Implementing this designed library collaborative instruction is expected to stimulate interest in the Memory of the World, linking curriculum and archives at schools and significantly expanding the users of the archives into teachers and students.

  • The aim of this study is providing basic data to design successful in-service training program for teacher librarians by analyzing their preference on subjects of customized intensive programs for indicators of teacher expertise development. According to the survey, teacher librarians seem to regard training subjects such as Reading Education and Information Literacy Instruction related educational information services as core jobs and prefer developing instructional contents and materials. Under the levels of school it seems that teacher librarians in the elementary school are interested in programs for library activation, management of volunteers, analyses of users' needs and curricula, evaluations of user instruction and information literacy instruction. Older teacher librarians favor an understanding of metadata, building and supporting information system and instruction. Therefore, training subjects for teacher librarians should be formed by linking strategies between school library instruction and subject curricula. And in terms of the method of training, case studies and practical training might be better than lectures based on the theory.

The detailed activities for research step were consisted of the four steps of recognition of the problem, information analysis and interpretation, compilation of information and evaluation for each activity. Among the themes "environment" and "appreciation" were applied to a public library and a middle school library as a trial. The trial application saw that students took an interest in programs that subject themes are link with various topics. They were also very satisfied with such programs.
