  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the awareness of health care workers on the protection of patient health information and their practice of it in an attempt to provide some information on the policy setting of health care institutions about medical information protection. As a result, the awareness of the health care workers on the protection of patient health information and their practice of it were both the best in the communication area, followed by the patient health information management area and the area of direct contact with health information. As for the variables linked to their awareness and practice of patient health information protection, the type of the health care institutions, job satisfaction, religion and the departments in which they worked were significantly related. To determine what factors affected the patient health information management area, a multiple regression analysis was carried out by selecting the area of direct contact with patient health information and the communication area as independent variables and by selecting the patient health information management area as a dependent variable. And it's found that the patient health information management area became better when the area of direct contact with the information and the communication area were better.

  • Protection to the multimedia contents is inevitable to ensure that only authorized users be able to access the protected contents for consumption. Since protection mechanisms need to be designed efficiently by exploiting the type of the contents, we propose a protection scheme for the video bitstream encoded by Scalable Video Coding (SVC) technique. Our scheme exploits the property of SVC in which a video is encoded into spatial, temporal, and quality scalability layers. By applying our proposed protection scheme to the appropriate scalability layers we can effectively control the SVC contents completely or partially. Each layer can be flexibly protected with different encryption keys or even with different encryption algorithms. The algorithms that are used to protect each layer are described by the standardized protection description tool, which is the MPEG-21 Intellectual Property Management and Protection (IPMP) Components. In this paper, we present the design of the proposed layered SVC protection scheme, its implementation and experimental results. The experiment result shows that the proposed layered SVC protection scheme is very effective and can easily be applied.

  • This study was designed to empirically analyze the effect of control activities(physical, managerial and technical securities) of information protection on organizational effectiveness and the mediating effects of information application. The result was summarized as follows. First, the effect of control activities(physical, technical and managerial securities) of information protection on organizational effectiveness showed that the physical, technical and managerial security factors have a significant positive effect on the organizational effectiveness(p < .01). Second, the effect of control activities(physical, technical and managerial securities) of information protection on information application showed that the technical and managerial security factors have a significant positive effect on the information application(p < .01). Third, the explanatory power of models, which additionally put the information protection control activities(physical, technical and managerial securities) and the interaction variables of information application to verify how the information protection control activities( physical, technical and managerial security controls) affecting the organizational effectiveness are mediated by the information application, was 50.6%~4.1% additional increase. And the interaction factor(${\beta}$ = .148, p < .01) of physical security and information application, and interaction factor(${\beta}$ = .196, p < .01) of physical security and information application among additionally-put interaction variables, were statistically significant(p < .01), indicating the information application has mediated the relationship between physical security and managerial security factors of control activities, and organizational effectiveness. As for results stated above, it was proven that physical, technical and managerial factors as internal control activities for information protection are main mechanisms affecting the organizational effectiveness very significantly by information application. In information protection control activities, the more all physical, technical and managerial security factors were efficiently well performed, the higher information application, and the more information application was efficiently controlled and mediated, which it was proven that all these three factors are variables for useful information application. It suggested that they have acted as promotion mechanisms showing a very significant result on the internal customer satisfaction of employees, the efficiency of information management and the reduction of risk in the organizational effectiveness for information protection by the mediating or difficulty of proved information application.

  • While conventional business administration-based information technology management methods are applied to the risk analysis of information systems, no security risk analysis techniques have been used in relation to information protection. In particular, given the rapid diffusion of information systems and the demand for information protection, it is vital to develop security risk analysis techniques. Therefore, this paper will suggest an ideal risk analysis process for information systems. To prove the usefulness of this security risk analysis process, this paper will show the results of managed, physical and technical security risk analysis that are derived from investigating and analyzing the conventional information protection items of an information system.

  • This paper studies the determinants of willingness to pay (WTP) for preventing personal information infringement. Most of previous studies only estimate the value of the WTP and, unlike them, this paper discusses personal information as an information good. Using a double-bounded dichotomous choice model, this paper empirically analyses the personal characteristics that determine the WTP for the protection of personal information. It contributes to the literature by proposing that gender, working status and communication cost are determinants for the WTP for the protection of personal information.

  • Privacy means the right not to interfere with the private life of an individual. Bio data is the most private personal information about the person itself, and according to advancement of technology, it is possible to analyze and judge individual as well as identify individual. The Personal Information Protection Act is based on global privacy principles, but the legislation for the protection of bio information has yet to be enacted. Therefore, it is time to protect biometric data as more sensitive information than general personal information. We will review the global privacy discussions for protecting biometric information and propose additional privacy principles and measures for utilization that should be defined in the biometric information protection guideline.
