  • Soil organic carbon (SOC), being a help to forest formation and control of carbon dioxide in the air, is found to be an important factor by which global warming is influenced. Excavating the samples by whole area is very inefficient method to discovering the distribution of SOC. So, the development of suitable model for expecting the relative amount of the SOC makes better use of expecting the SOC. In the present study, a model based on a decision tree algorithm is introduced to estimate the amount of SOC along with accessing influencing factors such as altitude, aspect, slope and type of trees. The model was applied to a real site and validated by 10-fold cross validation using two softwares, See 5 and Weka. From the results given by See 5, it can be concluded that the amount of SOC in surface layers is highly related to the type of trees, while it is, in middle depth layers, dominated by both type of trees and altitude. The estimation accuracy was rated as 70.8% in surface layers and 64.7% in middle depth layers. A similar result was, in surface layers, given by Weka, but aspect was, in middle depth layers, found to be a meaningful factor along with types of trees and altitude. The estimation accuracy was rated as 68.87% and 60.65% in surface and middle depth layers. The introduced model is, from the tests, conceived to be useful to estimation of SOC amount and its application to SOC map production for wide areas.

Now countries around the world are seeking efficient and effective means to cope with the exponential growth of needs for science and technology information for research. In this context, it has been perceived vital to establish national infrastructures in order to extend the availability of world's science and technology information. In Korea, it has been a recurring issue to build a national science library to prevent knowledge colonization and to gain a competitive edge in the fields. It is essential to have one as a national information infrastructure to assume the role of developing a sustainable model for access to the world's science and technology information, providing permanent access to them. In this paper, therefore, some issues concerning building and managing a new national science library in Korea are examined. In doing so, the following details are dealt with in detail. First, the rationale behind building a national science library is described, Second, the functions and roles of the library are defined, Third, previous discussions and attempts to build a national science library are reviewed and analysed. Finally, possible problems and issues raised in relation to build a national science library are probed, and future directions are also suggested. In this process, the recent strategic plan for national science library, national agriculture library, and national medical library, and changing plan for Sejong city are taken into consideration as influencing factors.

  • The exact estimation of physical growth by Obesity level has important meaning to the health care and evaluation on adolescent girls. So this study tried to clear the relationship between weight and body fat by using data for the height, weight of 124 elementary school children and high school student in Seoul. Then this study tried to show the physical growth pattern and various characteristics by Obesity level by using longitudinal for the height, weight of 1113 high school students in Seoul, and it also tried to show what influencing factors on the physical growth of this aged population. The result could be summarized as follows. 1. The relationship between weight and body fat(%) has 0.81475(r) at age 9 and 0.69361(r) at age 18. Also the relationship between weight and lean body muscle(LBM %) has -0.81470(r) at age 9 and -0.64729(r) at age 18. 2. The weakness, normal and obesity groups were classified by Obesity level. In case of weakness group showed the very low Obesity level at age 8 to 11, in case of obesity group showed the high Obesity level at age 15 to 18. Also Rohrer index was decreasing tendency up to age 12 in weakness group and increasing tendency over age 14 in obesity group. 3. When the height and weight growth pattern was compared, height growth was superior to weight growth at age 9 to 14.5 in normal group. But weight growth was inferior to height growth at age 9 to 14.5 in normal group. In obesity group, weight growth was superior to height growth at age 7 to 18. On the other hand the height growth of weakness group was superior to the normal group and the obesity group except age 11 to 12. 4. On height velocity curve by PHV age obesity group showed the most growth amount per year(9.00Cm/yr), and the next is normal group(8.77Cm/yr), weakness group(8.70Cm/yr). Then the difference between PHV age and PWV age was within 1 year in these three groups. 5. In these three groups, height velocity curve by menarcheal age showed the PHV before 2~3 years of menarcheal age. And weight velocity curve by menarcheal age showed the remarkable PWV before 1 year of menarcheal age.

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between social support and depression of the elderly in care facilities. We enrolled 328 elderly people aged 65 years or older, admitted to 15 care facilities located in D metropolitan city. Data were collected through personal interviews conducted by interviewers who visited each care facility, from March 1 to May 31, 2018. Our results indicate a significantly higher distribution of depression in the group having lower social support; the score of depression was determined to be in a significant positive correlation with social support. Considering logistic regression, the adjusted odds ratio in the depressed group increased significantly by 2.7 times in the high group (Q3), 5.4 times in the middle group (Q2) and 10.1 times in the low group (Q1), which had the very high group of social support score. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the factors influencing depression include religion status, relationship with children, subjective health status, physical disabilities, smoking status, breakfast status, and social support, and the explanation power of the injected variables is 41.1%. Taken together, our findings indicate that the level of depression amongst the elderly in care facilities is significantly related to the social support available.
