  • We investigate the influence of subjects or observations on regression coefficients of generalized estimating equations using the influence function and the derivative influence measures. The influence function for regression coefficients is derived and its sample versions are used for influence analysis. The derivative influence measures under certain perturbation schemes are derived. It can be seen that the influence function method and the derivative influence measures yield the same influence information. An illustrative example in longitudinal data analysis is given and we compare the results provided by the influence function method and the derivative influence measures.

  • The present paper is the follow-on of a former work in which the influence of the gas-surface interaction models was evaluated on the aerodynamic coefficients of an aero-space-plane and on a section of its wing. The models by Maxwell and by Cercignani-Lampis-Lord were compared by means of Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) codes. In that paper the diffusive, fully accommodated, semi-specular and specular accommodation coefficients were considered. The results pointed out that the influence of the interaction models, considering the above mentioned accommodation coefficients, is pretty strong while the Cercignani-Lampis-Lord and the Maxwell models are practically equivalent. In the present paper, the comparison of the same models is carried out considering the dependence of the accommodation coefficients on the angle of incidence (or partial accommodation coefficients). More specifically, the normal and the tangential momentum partial accommodation coefficients, obtained experimentally by Knetchel and Pitts, have been implemented. Computer tests on a NACA-0012 airfoil have been carried out by the DSMC code DS2V-64 bits. The airfoil, of 2 m chord, has been tested both in clean and flapped configurations. The simulated conditions were those at an altitude of 100 km where the airfoil is in transitional regime. The results confirmed that the two interaction models are practically equivalent and verified that the use of the Knetchel and Pitts coefficients involves results very close to those computed considering a diffusive, fully accommodated interaction both in clean and flapped configurations.

  • Purpose - This study analyzes economic relations and mutual influence in the global equipment manufacturing industry (EMI) and China's influence. Research design, data, and methodology - Data were collected from the World Input-Output Database (WIOT), looking at 16 countries. The sample time period was 2002-2011. Influence and motivation coefficients were calculated. Results - 1) China's EMI showed a very strong influence coefficient, even surpassing world industrial powers like Japan, the USA, Germany, and Korea. 2) As for influence on added-value, China's EMI motivation coefficient was ranked third in 2011, which meant it had a negligible effect on added-value. 3) From 2002 to 2011, both the influence and motivation coefficients of China's EMI rose. Conclusions - China's EMI has strong influence and motivation coefficients. It has a significant impact on the world EMI, especially on the total output of the global EMI. Additionally, during 2002 to 2011, the ranking of China's EMI motivation coefficient improved year over year, and its economic efficiency obviously improved. By 2011, China's EMI's international influence was second only to the US and Japan.

  • This paper presents the influence coefficient method to predict the deflection of bump foil precisely in the sub-structure of AFB(air foil bearing). Heshmat has introduced the simple compliance model to calculate the deflection of bump foil. But this approach can not consider the deflection of bump foil at the edge of AFB, so elasto-hydrodynamic model is insufficient to analyze in case that the eccentricity ratio is greater than 1. Peng has used the average pressure and film thickness, but this approach is not also a realistic model. Influence coefficients of a bump is calculated by finite element method, and introduced in bump deflection equations of the performance analysis of air foil bearing. The effects of the influence coefficient on the bearing performance is discussed in detail for appropriate foil design.

  • Since the influence coefficients method in balancing of rotors is developed with the basement of not the principle of rotor system dynamics, but the linear relationshop of between the measuring quantities and the unbalance quantities, field engineers can apply the method without additional understanding on the rotor dynamics. But the influence coefficients method is not robust to the measurement error. This paper proposes a new method for the two plane balancing of rigid rotor, based on the principle of rotor dynamics. And the kit for experiment is made by ourselves, and in order to measure in the same condition with it, we do a experiment three times. And then with the Response of gap sensor, the SNR(Signal and Noise) is compared and analyzed about measuring error between the influence coefficient method, and the new method, and it is proved that the new method is less robust than the influence coefficient method.

  • A study was made of the influence of butyl alcohol on the distribution coefficients of barium and mercury ions between the ion exchange resin, Dowex 50w-x8, 200~400 mesh and solutions containing hydrochloric acid, butyl alcohol and water. The determination of the distribution coefficients of barium and mercury are made by using the batch method. The distribution coefficients of metal ions decrease generally as the number of branches of carbon in the molecule of butyl alcohol increase. It shows that solubility in water and stereo-isomerism of the butyl alcohol have influence upon the distribution coefficient of barium and mercury.

  • The governing equations of wave propagation in one dimension of elastic continuum materials are investigated by taking the influence of the initial stress into account. After a short review of the theory of elastic wave propagation in a rock mass with an initial stress, results indicate that the initial stress differentially influences P-wave and S-wave propagation. For example, when the initial stress is homogeneous, for the P-wave, the initial stress only affects the magnitude of the elastic coefficients, but for the S-wave, the initial stress not only influences the elastic coefficients but also changes the governing equation of wave propagation. In addition, the P-wave and S-wave velocities were measured for granite samples at a low initial stress state; the results indicate that the seismic velocities increase with the initial stress. The analysis of the previous data of seismic velocities and elastic coefficients in rocks under ultra-high hydrostatic initial stress are also investigated.

  • Influence coefficients on two-plane flexible rotor balancing model are derived by using the transfer matrix method. The model has a rigid uniform cylinder at mid-span of flexible shafts. Both faces of the rigid cylinder are used as the balancing planes. Calculated influence coefficients show that there exist the rotating speed ranges which are useless or insensitive for the balancing. Gyroscopic effect and damping are considered in the study and their effects are discussed.

  • For a pressurized water reactor power plant, the reactor coolant pump (RCP) is a kernel component. And for a canned motor RCP, the rotor system's properties determines its safety. The liquid coolant inside the canned motor RCP fills clearance between the metal shields of rotor and stator, forming a lengthy clearance flow. The influence of inlet preswirl on rotordynamic coefficients of clearance flow in canned motor RCP and their effects on the rotordynamic characteristics of the pump are numerically and experimentally investigated in this work. A quasi-steady state computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method has been used to investigate the influence of inlet preswirl. A vertical experiment rig has also been established for this purpose. Rotordynamic coefficients on different inlet preswirl ratios (IR) are obtained through CFD and experiment. Results show that the cross-coupled stiffness of the clearance flow would change significantly with inlet preswirl, but other rotordynamic coefficients would not change significantly with inlet preswirl. For the case of clearance flow between the stator and rotor cans, influence of inlet preswirl is not so significant as the IR is not large enough.
