The advent of inexpensive high power switching devices revived the interest in switched reluctance motor(hereafter referred to as SRM) drives. In the late 60's, the potential of SRM for traction application attracted researchers. Since then the progress in research of the SRM drive has been phenomenal. In this paper, a review of the basic principle of operation of the SRM, currently available converter topologies, the controller requirements and some design considerations are included.

Some simple devices to demonstrate important hydraulic principles are required in fluid mechanics or hydraulics classes. Those devices should be easy to make and operate with inexpensive cost. The writer has studied some simple demonstration apparatus of hydraulic principles which were made of cheap materials. An adjustable nozzle is one of them. It can be connected to an axial flow fan so as to use air flow. By operating this apparatus, pressure changes in gradually enlarged or contracted conduits could be observed.

This paper deals with an inexpensive, simple and fast Langmuir probe sweeping circuit and its application. This sweeper completes a probe trace in a 1 ms order. Futhermore, the circuit drives a maximum probe voltage of $\pm$30V and has a maximum probe current capability of a few amperes. The plasma parameters are successfully determined using the fast Langmuir probe method.

The use of soft-lithography instead of standard photolithography and dry etching technologies is attractive because inexpensive optical device can be realized. Polymerization using multi-photon absorption of materials is also a good method for optical waveguide fabrication. Laser induced self-writing technology of optical waveguide is also very simple and attractive. Using these processes, we can fabricate and interconnect optical circuits at once. In this presentation, several simple fabrication methods will be introduced. New optical loss evaluation method for polymer optical waveguides will also be presented

This article describes the useful way to measure the torque and RPM of the geared motor. For this, we have made the planetary geared reduction motor including the torque sensor unit which consists of hall effects sensor and permanent magnet. Our monitoring system displays the sensing values (torque, rpm) and the calculated value (power) and it also has the network capability using the Bluetooth protocol. We will show that our solution is much more inexpensive and simple method to measure torque and rpm than before.

A high bandwidth watt-converter, based on an inexpensive, commercially available, standard IC package, is described that covers a frequency ranges from DC to 100 kHz. The new resistive shunt for a wide-band frequency current measurement of the watt-converter was developed. The converter will use application in accurate power measurement under distorted and high frequency conditions. The advantages of the watt-converter are its simplicity, low cost and fast response time.

Process measurements contain random and gross errors and the size estimation of gross errors is required for production accounting. Mixed integer programming technique had been applied to identify and estimate the gross errors simultaneously. However, the compensate model based on mixed integer programming used all measured variables or spanning tree as gross error candidates. This makes gross error estimation problem combinatorial or computationally expensive. An inexpensive and efficient catalyst system has been developed for the N-arylation of phenylurea including a variety of aryl halides. This simple protocol uses $Cu_2O$ as the catalyst, microwave assisted, solvent- and ligand-free, $K_3PO_4{\cdot}H_2O$ as the base.

The small library of new enantiomerically pure (S,S)-diamino alcohols 1 and their hydroxyldiamide precursors 2 were conveniently synthesized on a gram scale from inexpensive and commercially chiral pool amino acids. The catalytic and induced asymmetric effects of the chiral ligands 1 in the asymmetric allylic oxidation of cycloolefins were investigated.

Railway passenger demand forecasts may be used directly, or as inputs to other optimization model which is use the demand forecasts to produce estimates of other activities. The optimization models require demand forecasts at the most detailed level. In this environment exponential smoothing forecasting methods such as Holt-Winters are appropriate because it is simple and inexpensive in terms of computation. There are several initialization methods for Holt-Winters Model. The purpose of this paper is to compare the initialization methods for Holt-Winters model.
