Dynamic characteristics of train wheel with considering the effects of rotatory inertia (회전관성 효과를 고려한 차륜의 동특성)

  • This study is a part f the research on the coupled vibration of train wheel with stepped thickness and rail. The research was conducted for the purpose of examining the dynamic characteristics of train wheel which considered the effect of rotatory inertia and preventing the vibrations of the high speed railway. The In-plane compressive stresses were computed by the rotation of train wheel and the reaction depending on the condition of rolling. The equation of transverse vibration of the train wheel was obtained by Lagrange's equation. As a result of study, it is known that the effect of rotatory inertia and the increment of thickness ratio, h over bar decrease frequency but the increment of radius ratio, r over bar increase frequency.

  • Soil moisture is a crucial variable in research works of hydrology, meteorology and plant sciences. Adequate soil moisture is essential for plant growth; excesses and deficits of soil moisture must be considered in agricultural practices. There are already several remote sensing methods used for monitoring soil moisture, such as thermal inertia, vegetation water-supplying index, crop water stress index and multi-factor regression. In this paper, an improved method has been discussed which is based on the thermal inertia. We analyzed the problems of monitoring soil moisture using satellites at first, and then put forward an simplified method which directly uses land surface temperature differences to measure soil moisture. Also we have taken the influence of vegetation into account, and import NDVI into the model. The method was used in the study of soil moisture in Heilongjiang Province, China, and we draw the conclusion by the experiments that the model can evidently increase the precision of monitoring soil moisture.

  • This paper presents the optimal design reducing the rotor inertia in order to improve the driving characteristic of BLDCM for robots. The parallel Genetic Algorithm is performed to rotor inertia minimization in optimal design. Also, velocity profile with finite jerk method is introduced to reduce vibration of BLDCM. As a result, a torque characteristic is same although rotor inertia is reduced 2/3 compared with prototype model. And, maximum vibration value is reduced by 63.4[%1 according to apply finite jerk.

  • Simplified formulae for axial and bending natural frequencies of a bellows are developed using an equivalent thin-walled pipe model. The axial and bending stiffness of bellows is determined using lumped transfer matrix method. Transfer matrix method which includes the rotary inertia is used to calculate the natural frequencies for axial and lateral vibration. The result from the simplified formula are verified by those from as experiment result and a finite element analysis. This comparisons show good agreement with the each other.

  • For small earth observation satellites, alignment between the optical components is important for precise observation. However, satellite cameras are structurally subject to misalignment in the launch environment where vibration excitations and impacts apply, and in space environments where zero gravity, vacuum, radiant heat and degassing occur. All of these variables can cause misalignment among the optical components. The misalignment among optical components results in degradation of image quality, and a re-alignment process is needed to compensate for the misalignment. This process of re-alignment between optical components is referred to as a refocusing process. In this paper, we proposed a 3 - axis focusing mechanism to perform the refocusing process. This mechanism is attached to the back of the secondary mirror and consists of three piezoelectric inertia-friction actuators to compensate the x-axis, y-axis tilt, and de-space through three-axis motion. The fabricated focus mechanism demonstrated excellent servo performance by experimenting with PD servo control.

  • The purpose of this paper is to design a curtain control system for centralized management of large curtains, which includes curtain structure, electric curtain controller, communication system, user interface and remote control. Curtain structure is designed to avoid using limit switch. The system is based on microprocessor, determined the stop position and complete running time of electric curtain through time control, and achieved remote control of curtain opening and closing through wired and wireless communication modes. By establishment of a mathematical model to calculate the inertia compensation time of the electric curtain, the electric curtain can be stopped ahead of time, and the curtain can be completely closed by the inertia. The result of test experiment of 32 electric curtain controllers shows the communication success rate reached 100%.

On the Influence of the Moment of Inertia of Gas on the Galactic Rotation Curves

  • There are two models that explain the rotation curves of galaxies: dark matter, which gives the missing contribution to the gravitational potential of the standard theory of gravity, and modified theories of gravity, according to which the gravitational potential is created by ordinary visible mass. Both models have some disadvantages. The article offers a new look at the problem of galactic rotation curves. The author suggests that the moment of inertia creates an additional gravitational potential along with the mass. The numerical simulation carried out on the example of fourteen galaxies confirms the validity of such an assumption. This approach makes it possible to explain the constancy of gas velocities outside the galactic disk without involving the hypothesis of the existence of dark matter. At the same time, the proposed approach lacks the disadvantages of modified theories of gravity, where the gravitational potential is created only by the mass of visible matter.

  • The paper presents how to update impedance control parameters for dual-arm manipulators using EMG signals and motions of the operator. Since the hand motions of the dual-arm are modeled to be the mass-spring-damper system in this paper, the impedance parameter update method is an important issue to reflect the operator's force. However, task space inertia to be used as the mass parameter goes to infinity if the manipulator approaches a kinematic singularity. To alleviate this issue, the impedance (stiffness and damping) parameters are divided with a diagonal element of the task space inertia. Also, the stiffness and damping matrices are updated using the normalized EMG signals captured from the operator's forearm. Through this process, the motion of the dual-arm manipulator is more stabilized even though it approaches the kinematic singularity.

  • This investigation evaluates dynamic fracture characteristics of two alloy steels (STD-11 and STS-3) and a gray cast iron (GC-30). The dynamic fracture toughness of crack initiation and some of the dynamic fracturing characteristics were evaluated by using the instrumented Charpy impact testing procedures. It was found from experimental results for three kinds of materials that inertia force is directly proportional to impact velocity. The duration time of inertia force was found to be constant regardless of impact velocities in steel specimens.

Structural behaviour of concrete beam under electrochemical chloride extraction against a chloride-bearing environment

  • The present study concerns a removal of chloride ions and structural behaviour of concrete beam at electrochemical chloride extraction (ECE). The electrochemical properties included 1000 mA/m2 current density for 2, 4 and 8 weeks. It was found that an increase in the duration of ECE resulted in an increase in the extraction rate of chlorides, in the range of 35-85%, irrespective of chloride contamination. In structural behaviour, the strength and maximum bending moment of specimen was always lowered by ECE. Moreover, the flexural rigidity and bending stiffness were reduced by the loss of effective cross-section area in the linear elastic range. Simultaneously, the inertia moment was substantially subjected to 70% loss of the cross-section by the tensile strain at the condition of the failure. However, a lower rate of the inertia moment reduction was achieved by ECE, implying the higher resistance to the cracking, but the higher risk of deformation.
