  • In this paper, we investigated the relationship between the variables of the industrial accident factors and the manufacturing performances such as production quantity, quality, cost, and delivery. For this investigation, we collected the real data from 30 small/medium-sized manufacturing industries by performing a questionnaire survey and a on-site inter-view with the workers. Thirty industries were made up of 10 from each of the following three industries: metal processing, machinery manufacturing, and chemical products manufacturing. The data analysis was made using SPSS PC+. Based on the result of the analysis, we came to the tentative conclusion that only two variables such as work skill and load affected all four manufacturing performances and the rest of them two or three performances.

  • The efforts to reduce industrial accident has been brisk recently in workplace. These efforts were mainly concentrated on construction and manufacturing. Despite these efforts, current accident rate so far has been maintained on the fixed level. According to the change of industrial structure, the government's attention on industrial accident prevention activities are focused in service industries. When trying to appraise the result of such activities, it is impossible to evaluate safety without certain criteria. Therefore, we analyze data by TOPSIS method that all the subway institution jointly manage every year. we decide the order of safety priority between domestic subway workplaces and measure the variation in safety by sensitivity. As a result, we draw conclusions to improve safety for the primary consideration and suggest alternatives.

  • This study was designed to analyse the performance and the mechanisms of workers' participation and communications in industrial accident prevention activities leading to the reduction of industrial accidents. This study also aimed to find out the causal relationship influencing the promotion of prevention activities of industrial accidents. Of the manufacturing businesses with more than 5 workers as the population of the survey, a questionnaire was conducted with 2,500 workspaces chosen by stratified sampling. Out of 2500 workspaces, 971 workspaces equipped with industrial safety and health committee were analysed in this study. According to the results of this study, the primary influential factors on safety activities were the management of industrial accidents and the cooperations between supervisors and workers on site. The secondary influential factor was the establishment of industrial safety and health committee. Regarding the effectiveness of industrial accident reduction, -0.01 was shown by workplace safety activities by themselves and -0.09 was shown by participation and communications through indirect safety activities. This indicated workers' participation and communications play an important role in the reduction of industrial accidents. By discovering the clue to the mechanism of the workers' participation and communications, this study is expected to stimulate the reduction of industrial accidents by emphasizing the importance of workers' participation and communications in resolving the safety and health problem in the workplaces.

  • The food delivery platform labor market has been continuing to grow rapidly in Korea, which resulted in traffic accident increases of delivery riders. To prevent traffic accidents while delivery, this study conducted a survey for 462 delivery riders and analyzed the statistical relationships of delivery characteristics and risk perception with delivery accidents. The results of this study revealed that riders with young age (20s: 46.6%) and/or low delivery experience (less than 1 year: 50.6%) had significantly higher proportion of accident experience than other age groups (over 40s: 36.2%) and high delivery experience (more than 2 years: 36.4%). In addition, side job riders (61.5%) showed significantly higher proportion of accident experience than main job riders (39.1%). The riders with accident experience had more number of deliveries per hour (weekday: 3.56, weekend: 3.91) than the riders without accident experience (weekday: 3.29, weekend: 3.68). Lastly, the riders with accident experience rated significantly higher perceived level of risk on weather, violation of traffic laws, uninspected motorcycle, receiving calls while driving, missing safety training, missing personal protective equipment than the riders without accident experience. This study suggested four aspects based on the study results to prevent traffic accidents for delivery riders.

  • Background: From only frequency rate of industrial accidents, it is difficult to define the industry composition of accident statistics in a nation. This study aims to propose and develop a new index for measuring the degree of concentration of industrial accidents using the concept of the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index in the case of European countries. Methods: Using the concept of the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index, the concentration index of accidents in the country is developed, and the conditions of European countries are compared using indexes of frequency rate and concentration ratio. Results: The frequency rate and concentration ratio of fatal and nonfatal accidents in European countries are compared. According to the economic condition and geographical position, different patterns of accidents concentration are presented in terms of frequency rate and concentration ratio. Conclusion: We develop the concentration index of industrial and occupational accidents that identifies the industrial ratio of accident occurrence, and the differentiated strategy can be formulated such as approaches to reducing frequency and prioritizing target industries.

  • Background: The series of serious industrial accidents in recent years at contractors to large companies has highlighted risk outsourcing as a real and urgent problem. This study aims to review the difference in the degree of risk exposure and the occurrence of industrial accidents depending on the type of company relations. Among in-house contractors, the focus will be on those handling hazardous chemicals that include companies for which outsourcing requires approval. Methods: This study uses the 9th wave of the Industrial Safety and Health Survey (2018). For determining the degree of risk exposure, the occurrence of industrial accidents, and industrial accident rate, multivariate, logistic, and fractional logit, regression analyses were used, respectively. Results: First, In-house contractors' degree of risk exposure is higher than that of the client companies. In particular, this gap is even greater for companies dealing with chemicals. Second, among only those that handle hazardous chemicals, in-house contractors do show a significantly higher rate of industrial accident occurrence. Third, In-house contractors have a significantly higher rate of industrial accidents from diseases than client companies. Conclusion: The analysis supports the intent of the legal amendment that strengthens the protection of in-house contracted workers who handle hazardous chemicals. Second, the results of this study suggest that safety and health management must go beyond legal compliance and ensure that it has substance and effectiveness. Last, there should be policy consideration is necessary to reduce attempts to hide industrial accidents.

  • The highest fatal accident ratio was recorded in the construction industry. According to the industrial insurance premium rate & business type example, among the construction industry, the architectural work has the highest fatal and loss time accident ratio. Previous literature has investigated various aspects of accident occurrence and prevention in architectural work. However, those studied were limited in that they only focused on the fatal accident without considering the loss time accident. But non fatal accidents were recorded more than 50 times of fatal accidents. Therefore non fatal accidents must be controlled to lessen industrial accidents. Based on this, the goal of this study was to investigate the nature of the loss time accident and derive the risk index of work type in architectural work. In this study, opinions of safety experts were gathered and the risk index of work type was derived using AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process). And verification was accomplished by comparing the results of this study with the risk index derived by analysis of accident records. Results showed that the risk index of work type was significantly higher in steel frame work, temporary installation work, earth & foundation work, facilities work, concrete work. And statistical analysis for verification showed that coefficient of Pearson correlation was 0.686 and P-value was 0.001.
