A coupled inductor-dual boost-inverter (CIDBI) with a differential structure has been presented for application to a micro-inverter photovoltaic module system due to its turn ratio of a high-voltage level. However, it is difficult to design a CIDBI converter with a conventional PI regulator to be stable and achieve good dynamic performance, given the fact that it is a high order system. In view of this situation, a sliding mode control (SMC) strategy is introduced in this paper, and two different sliding mode controllers (SMCs) are proposed and adopted in the left and right side of two Boost sub-circuits to implement the corresponding regulation of the voltage and current. The schemes of the SMCs have been elaborated in this paper including the establishment of a system variable structure model, selection of the sliding surface, determination of the control law, and presentation of the reaching conditions and sliding domain. Finally, the mathematic analysis and the proposed SMC are verified by experimental results.

It is necessary to accurately predict converter losses for optimized design of a high-power DC-DC converter. The losses of switching devices and inductor among the elements of the converter take significantly greater proportion. The current ripple will be determined by the size of the inductance and this inductance value varies depending on the DC amount of inductor current. As the inductance changes according to load current, the change influences not only the inductor loss itself but also the total converter loss. In this paper, for more accurate design of a bi-directional DC-DC converter for 30kW-class energy storage system, more accurate computational model is proposed considering inductance variation according to the load current change. The inductance changes using variable magnetic cores are verified and converter efficiency is tested through simulations and experiments.

In this paper, a new discrete-time small signal model of an average current mode control is proposed to predict the inductor current responses. Compared to the peak current mode control, the analysis of the average current mode control is difficult because of its presence of an compensation network. By utilizing sampler model, a new discrete-time small signal model is derived and used to predict the behaviors of an inductor current of average current mode control employing generalized compensation networks. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed model, prediction results of the proposed model are compared to those of the circuit level simulator, PSIM and experiment.

In hysteresis simulation, the Preisach model is most widely used as the reliability. However, since the first-order transition curves used in the conventional Preisach model are very inconvenient for actual measurement, many researches have been made to simplify them. In this study, the minor loops obtained along the initial magnetization curve are used to obtain the Everett function used in the Preisach model. In other words, The Everett table is constructed by using the minor loops, and are applied to the magnetization dependent Preisach model to reconstruct the Everett table. In order to minimize the error, the spline interpolation method is used to complete the final Everett table and the hysteresis loop simulation is performed with the Everett table. Furthermore, it is applied to the inductor analysis to perform not only sinusoidal wave and square wave drive but also PWM wave drive considering hysteresis. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed by comparison with simulation and experiment.

In this paper, the optimum structure of 2GHz magnetic thin film planar inductor were designed and fabricated to reduce the inductor area and to maximize the inductance L and quality factor Q of the inductor. The optimum design was performed utilizing Co90Fe10 layer multilayered with SiO2 layers to avoid the eddy-current skin effect and considering new lumped element model. New magnetic thin film inductors operating at 2GHz were fabricated on a Si substrate utilizing photo-lithography and lift-off techniques. The frequency characteristics of L, Q, and impedance in more than fifty identical inductors were measured using an RF Impedance Analyzer(HP4291B with HP16193A test fixture). The self-resonant frequencies(SRF) of the inductors were measured by a Vector Network Analyzer(HP8510). The developed inductors have SRF of 1.8 to 2.3GHz, L of 47 to 68nH, and Q of 70 to 80 near 1GHz. Finally, high frequency, high performance, planar micro-inductor(area=30.8 x 30.8il$^2$) with maximized L and Q were fabricated succefully.

The SMT(Surface Mount Type) ferrite bead used to reduce the influx of power bus noise is modeled with parallel capacitor(C), series resistor(R) and series inductor(L). The simple equivalent circuit modeling doesn't agree with the measurement result. In this paper, we proposed the accurate equivalent circuit model of the ferrite bead at wide frequency range(50 MHz∼3 GHz) and analyzed the noise effect to the high speed IC(Integrate Circuit) with ferrite bead or not.
The characteristic variation of 3-dimensional (3-D) solenoid-type embedded inductors is investigated. Four different structures of a 3-D inductor are fabricated by using a low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) process, and their s-parameters are measured between 50 MHz and 5 GHz. The circuit model parameters of each building block are optimized and extracted using the partial element equivalent circuit method and an HSPICE circuit simulator. Based on the model parameters, the characteristics of the test structures such as self-resonant frequency, inductance, and quality (Q) factor are analyzed, and predictive modeling is applied to the structures composed of a combination of the modeled building blocks. In addition, characteristic variations of the 3-D inductors with different structures using extracted building blocks are also investigated. This approach can provide a characteristic estimation of 3-D solenoid embedded inductors for structural variations.
This paper offers two Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) systems for Photovoltaic (PV) applications. The first MPPT method is based on a fixed frequency Model Predictive Control (MPC). The second MPPT technique is based on the Predictive Hysteresis Control (PHC). An experimental demonstration shows that the proposed techniques are fast, accurate and robust in tracking the maximum power under different environmental conditions. A DC/DC converter with a high voltage gain is obligatory to track PV applications at the maximum power and to boost a low voltage to a higher voltage level. For this purpose, a high gain Switched Inductor Quadratic Boost Converter (SIQBC) for PV applications is presented in this paper. The proposed converter has a higher gain than the other transformerless topologies in the literature. It is shown that at a high gain the proposed SIQBC has moderate efficiency.

In this paper, a novel circuit topology of a three-winding coupling inductor-assisting a high-frequency PWM boost chopper type DC-DC power converter with a high boost voltage conversion ratio and low switch voltage stress is proposed for the new energy interfaced DC power conditioner in solar photovoltaic and fuel cell generation systems. The operating principle in a steady state is described by using its equivalent circuits under the practical condition of energy processing of a lossless capacitive snubber. The newly-proposed power MOSFET boost chopper type DC-DC power converter with the three-winding coupled inductor type transformer and a single lossless capacitor snubber is built and tested for an output power of 500W. Utilizing the lower voltage and internal resistance power MOSFET switch in the proposed PWM boost chopper type DC-DC power converter can reduce the conduction losses of the active power switch compared to the conventional model. Therefore, the total actual power conversion efficiency under a condition of the nominal rated output power is estimated to be 81.1 %, which is 3.7% higher than the conventional PWM boost chopper DC power conversion circuit topology.
This paper presents a new PID controller for a DC/DC boost converter model that has a parasitic inductor resistance. In order to maintain the robust output regulation property under load variations the proposed controller is designed by using an additional state variable developed via a parallel-damped passivity-based control approach. Simulation results using Matlab/Simulink SimPowerSystems compare the performances of the proposed controller with a conventional PI controller for reference step changes and load uncertainties.
