In this paper a methodology of identifying individual pipes according to the internal and external characteristics of pipe is developed, and the methodology is applied to a case study water distribution pipe break database. Using the newly defined individual pipes the hazard rates of the cast iron 6 inch pipes are modeled by implementing the proportional hazards modeling approach for consecutive pipe failures. The covariates to be considered in the modeling procedures are selected by considering the general availability of the data and the practical applicability of the modeling results. The individual cast iron 6 inch pipes are categorized into seven ordered survival time groups according to the total number of breaks recorded in a pipe to construct distinct proportional hazard model (PHM) for each survival time group (STG). The modeling results show that all of the PHMs have the hazard rate forms of the Weibull distribution. In addition, the estimated baseline survivor functions show that the survival probabilities of the STGs generally decrease as the number of break increases. It is found that STG I has an increasing hazard rate whereas the other STGs have decreasing hazard rates. Regarding the first failure the hazard ratio of spun-rigid and spun-flex cast iron pipes to pit cast iron pipes is estimated as 1.8 and 6.3, respectively. For the second or more failures the relative effects of pipe material/joint type on failure were not conclusive. The degree of land development affected pipe failure for STGs I, II, and V, and the average hazard ratio was estimated as 1.8. The effects of length on failure decreased as more breaks occur and the population in a GRID affected the hazard rate of the first pipe failure.

In this paper a heuristic method for identifying individual pipes in water pipe networks to determine specific sections of the pipes that need to be replaced due to deterioration. An appropriate minimum pipe length is determined by selecting the pipe length that has the greatest variance of the average cumulative break number slopes among the various pipe lengths used. As a result, the minimum pipe length for the case study water network is determined as 4 m and a total of 39 individual pipe IDs are obtained. The economically optimal replacement times of the individual pipe IDs are estimated by using the threshold break rate of an individual pipe ID and the pipe break trends models for which the General Pipe Break Prediction Model(Park and Loganathan, 2002) that can incorporate the linear, exponential, and in-between of the linear and exponetial failure trends and the ROCOFs based on the modified time scale(Park et al., 2007) are used. The maximum log-likelihoods of the log-linear ROCOF and Weibull ROCOF estimated for the break data of a pipe are compared and the ROCOF that has a greater likelihood is selected for the pipe of interest. The effects of the social costs of a pipe break on the optimal replacement time are also discussed.

This paper provides a method for evaluating a residual life of water mains using a proportional hazard model(PHM). The survival time of individual pipe is defined as the elapsed time since installation until a break rate of individual pipe exceeds the Threshold Break Rate. A break rate of an individual pipe is estimated by using the General Pipe Break Model(GPBM). In order to use the GPBM effectively, improvement of the GPBM is presented in this paper by utilizing additional break data that is the cumulative number of pipe break of 0 for the time of installation and adjusting a value of weighting factor(WF). The residual lives and hazard ratios of the case study pipes of which the cumulative number of pipe breaks is more than one is estimated by using the estimated survival function. It is found that the average residual lives of the steel and cast iron pipes are about 25.1 and 21 years, respectively. The hazard rate of the cast iron pipes is found to be higher than the steel pipes until 20 years since installation. However, the hazard rate of the cast iron pipes become lower than the hazard rates of the steel pipes after 20 years since installation.

For the more comfortable thermal environment in residential buildings, it was necessary for variable components like as automatic flow limiting valves and/or balancing valves in hydronic system. And, these components had an effect on flow-rate and pressure inside pipe. In this case, the incompatibility between the design for the heating system and the selection of equipment was the causes of several problems in heating pipe network. In this study, we peformed measurements and analyses of flow rate and pressure inside pipe for radiant floor heating in residential buildings through field surveys and experiments in order to find out the actual conditions and problems. On the basis of this, we suggested the approach for the optimal flow-rate and pressure maintaining inside pipe in individual heating system.

In this paper important factors in determining improvement priorities for water pipes were categorized into the effects of a pipe failure to entire pipe network and the characteristics of individual pipe. Subsequently, mathematical models that can quantify these factors were developed using the Fuzzy techniques. The effects of a pipe failure to entire pipe network and the characteristics of individual pipe that were estimated byFuzzy techniques were coined as Fuzzy Importance Index and Fuzzy Characteristic Index, respectively. The Fuzzy Characteristic Index was further categorized into Fuzzy Deterioration Index and Fuzzy Difficulty Index. Considerations were given to applying weights to specific factors in the developed model depending on the circumstances of model applications. To provide an example of the methodology an example pipe network, Net3, of the EPANET program was used. The Fuzzy Importance Index (FII) and Fuzzy Deterioration Index (FDI) were calculated for the Net3 network by considering the hydraulic effects of a pipe failure on the entire pipe network and the pipe deterioration as one of the individual pipe characteristics. Subsequently, the improvement priorities of the pipes in the Net3 pipe network were established based on the FII and FDI.
Slab formwork consists of sheathing, stringer, hanger and shore. There are several types of adjustable individual shores. In constructions site, pipe supports are usually used as shores. The strength of a pipe support is decreasing as it is frequently being used at the construction site. In this study, 2857 pipe supports were bought to fine out the strength change of used pipe support and unused pipe supports according to aging. Among these pipe supports, 2337 pipe supports were lent to the construction companies free of charge. Compressive strength was measured by knife edge test and plate test at each 3 month. Test results show that the strength of unused pipe supports almost equaled to the strength of new pipe supports until 191 days, but the strength of used pipe supports at 191 days was lower than the strength of new pipe supports. So, the strength of used pipe supports at 191 days was not satisfied the specification of KS F 8001. According to these results, it shows that attention has to be paid to formwork design using used pipe supports. Therefore, the paresent study results will be able to provide a firm base to design slab formwork and test the performance of used temporary structure and prevent formwork collapses.

The sensor configuration of the magnetostrictive guided wave system can be described as a single continuous transducing element which makes it difficult to separate the individual modes from the reflected signal. In this work we develop the mode decomposition technique employing chirplet transform, which is able to separate the individual modes from dispersive and multimodal waveform measured with the magnetostrictive sensor, and to estimate the time-frequency centers and individual energies of the reflection, which would be used to locate and characterize defects. The reflection coefficients are calculated using the modal energies of the separated mode. Results from experimental results on a carbon steel pipe are presented, which show that the accurate and quantitative defect characterization could become enabled using the proposed technique.
Recently, the high-rise building has been constructed competitively because it is symbol of the national competitive power including the technical power. The higher buildings are getting, the more important building mechanical systems are. So, the building mechanical systems are getting developed. Among the building mechanical systems, the sanitary system is basically necessary in order to maintain the building hygienically along with convenience and safety. This study has been investigated for various cases of high-rise building plumbing system. As a result, a variety of zoning method has been applied to most skyscrapers depending on the building height in the building mechanical system. And a variety of joint have been applied to minimize the Shortening and Sway. Also, the drainage in same uses has been discharged outside of a build through the one vertical pipe line. And airing system has been used like Individual Vent Pipe Yoke Vent Pipe Stack Vent Pipe Loop Vent Pipe Relief Vent Pipe method. It is sure that this study could be used as the high-rise building design.

It is necessary to analyze the unsteady flow in the pipe network for the better operation and controls, but there are some problems in actual pipe network simulation, such as collecting a large amount of information in the field, operating highly upgraded computer system, and keeping a big storage device to run analysis program. The skeletonization method is used to cope with the problems in this paper. It is expected to reduce computation time, researcher's efforts, and costs for the analyzing the pipe network. The impact of individual pipe elements to the behavior of the water distribution system can be accounted in the process of skeletonization. However it is also important to study continuously about how to apply the skeletonization method for each of different cases, because inadequate uses may bring simulation to a false result. This paper introduces basic theories and skeletonizing examples in the actual pipe network in Dae-gu city.
Individual sewage treatment system is classified into a sewage treatment system which treats all the domestic sewage and a water-purifier tank which treats only effluent flushing from the toilet. The number of registered manufacturers has increased rapidly since 2001. As a result, price competition has increased among the manufacturers and has caused the problems such as the inappropriate production of individual sewage treatment system, the unreasonable permit for building completion and the shortage of the professional technology of the community's public officials in charge. This study collected the problem cases that are related with existing individual sewage treatment system and operation. Efficient improvement plan for the stable supply, installation, maintenance of individual sewage treatment system were suggested.
