Implemention of a DTIF Controller for Robust Drive of a 3 Phase Induction Motor in High-Speed Elevator (고속 엘리베이터에서 3상 유도전동기의 강건한 구동을 위한 DTIF 제어기의 구현)

  • High speed elevator requires precise drive included in zero speed at start/stop drive for the high stability and controllability. The vector control techniques, which have been used for the precise operation of induction motor, can be divided into two classes; The indirect vector control by slip frequency and the direct vector control by field orientation. The existing direct vector control technique has a robustness against the change of motor parameter and the existing indirect vector control technique has a strength of control ability in the wide speed range comparatively. This study presents the DTIF (Direct Torque Indirect Flux) controller which has robust movement in the transition state and in about zero and low speed using the control technique in which torque is controlled by the direct vector technique and flux is controled by indirect vector technique. The proposed system is verified by simulation and experiment for driving 3 phase induction motor. The process of transition which is from about zero speed and low speed to high speed is compared and measured to specification of phase voltage, phase current and DC link current. It is verified that DTIF controller show robust and stable speed variation.

  • To monitor the torque of an induction motor using current, the accurate identification of the motor parameters is very important. In this study, the motor parameters such as rotor resistance, stator and rotor leakage inductance, mutual inductance are estimated for torque monitoring and indirect vector control. Estimated parameters are used to monitor the torque of vector controlled induction motor without any speed measuring sensor. Stator current is measured to estimate the magnetizing current which is used to calculate flux linkage, rotor velocity and motor torque. From the experiments, the proposed method shows a good estimation of the motor parameters and torque under the normal rotational speed.

  • The induction motor is a high-efficiency machine when working close to its rated operation point. This paper uses a simple induction motor model that includes iron losses. The model, which only requires the knowledge of conventional induction motor parameters, is referred to a field-oriented frame. At steady-state light-load condition the minimum point of the input power can be found with the condition that it is possible to obtain the same torque with different combinations of flux and current values. Using the minimum point. the drive system with the proposed efficiency optimization controller can be controlled easily. Simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the control strategy proposed for an induction motor drive.

  • This paper proposes an effective self-turning algorithm based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for fuzzy speed control of the indirect vector controlled induction motor. Indirect vector control method divides and controls stator current by the flux and the torque producing current so that the dynamic characteristic of induction motor may be superior. However, if motor parameter changes, the flux current and the torque producing one's coupling happens and deteriorates the dynamic characteristic. The fuzzy speed controller of an induction motor has the robustness over the effect of this parameter variation than a conventional PI speed controller in some degree. This paper improves its adaptability by adding the self-tuning mechanism to the fuzzy controller. For tracking the speed command, its membership functions are adjusted using ANN adaptation mechanism. This adaptability could be embodied by moving the center positions of the membership functions. Proposed self-tuning method has wide adaptability than existent fuzzy controller or PI controller and is proved robust about parameter variation through Matlab/Simulink simulation.

  • This paper proposes a new method of on-line estimation for rotor resistance of the induction motor in the indirect vector controlled drive, using artificial neural network (ANN). The back propagation algorithm is used for training of the neural networks. The error between the desired state variable of an induction motor and actual state variable of a neural network model is back propagated to adjust the weight of a neural network model, so that the actual state variable tracks the desired value. The performance of rotor resistance estimator and torque and flux responses of drive, together with these estimators, are investigated variations rotor resistance from their nominal values. The rotor resistance are estimated analytically, using the proposed ANN in a vector controlled induction motor drive.

  • In this paper, the system equation for the balanced two-phase induction motor is derived and the characteristics for speed control is also analyzed in the region of constant torque and constant power. The modified vector control theory is applied to two-phase motor drive system. The speed of two-phase motor drive can be controlled precisely by the modified indirect vector control theory. The modified vector control theory is simpler comparing to the conventional vector control because of the simpler axis transformation. The computer simulations and the experimental results presented to confirm the vector control for two-phase inverter fed two phase induction motor system.

  • This thesis proposed a speed control system for induction motors robust to variations in torque and parameters by feedforward compensating the current portion of load torque, adding a load torque observer to the conventional PI controller in the indirect vector controlled induction motor system. In conclusion, this thesis demonstrate the improved transient characteristic to variations in reference speed and load torque, compared to the conventional PI control method, by means of the feedworward control of the estimated load torque.

  • This paper describes a SVPWM overmodulation scheme of NPC type three-level inverter for traction drives which extends the modulation index from MI=0.907 to unity. SVPWM strategy is organized by two operation modes of under-modulation and over-modulation. The switching states under the under-modulation modes are determined by dividing them with two linear regions and one hybrid region the same as the conventional three-level inverter. On the other hand, under the over-modulation mode, they are generated by doing it with two over-modulation regions the same as the conventional over-modulation strategy of a two level inverter. Following the description of over-modulation scheme of a three-level inverter, the system description of a vector controlled induction motor for traction drives has been discussed. Finally, the validity of the proposed modulation algorithm has been verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • Efficiency optimization of an indirect vector controlled induction motor drive is proposed. The loss models are used in the validation of the fuzzy logic based on-line efficiency optimization control. At steady state, the fuzzy controller adaptively changes the excitation current on the basis of measured input power, until the maximum efficiency point is reached. The pulsating torque, due to flux reduction, has been compensated by an ingenious feedforward scheme. During transient state, rated flux is established to get the best transient response. Through a comprehensive simulation study, the results confirmed the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper deals with the vector control that control of torque and speed of the induction motor using field-oriented control method. Rotor flux is estimated using the indirect sensing method based on the rotor circuit equation in the synchronously rotation reference frame, and slip angle and rotor position are caculated from rotor angular velocity and stator current. Through modeling and digital simulation with a voltage source inverter, it is shown that the proposed scheme gives good static and dynamic performance to the induction motor drive.
