  • Purpose: To investigate the intensity of bilateral international trade of the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) countries with Kazakhstan, its relationship with logistics (LPI), to assess their contribution to economic growth and distribution of commodity flows. Research design, data, and methodology: The method of analyzing the bilateral trade flow was applied by using the trade intensity index (TII) and a multidimensional regression model describing the relationship between LPI and its components, TII, the volume of exports and imports, GDP. Results: The nature and directions of the relationship between TII and the key components of logistics, the positive impact of LPI on the intensity of trade are established. It is revealed that the intensity of trade between the countries in the direction of the EAEU-Kazakhstan has a greater impact on the growth of LPI than in the opposite direction. At the same time, the higher the level of trade integration and the volume of GDP, the stronger their impact on the efficiency of logistics and distribution of commodity flows. Conclusions: Effective distribution of commodity flows will require the development of logistics components based on the direction of bilateral trade and the size of countries, the intensification of state reforms in the field of international trade and distribution logistics.

  • Since the least squares estimation is not appropriate when multicollinearity exists among the regressors of the linear regression model, the principal components regression is used to deal with the multicollinearity problem. This article suggests a new procedure for the selection of suitable principal components. The procedure is based on the condition index instead of the eigenvalue. The principal components corresponding to the indices are removed from the model if any condition indices are larger than the upper limit of the cutoff value. On the other hand, the corresponding principal components are included if any condition indices are smaller than the lower limit. The forward inclusion method is employed to select proper principal components if any condition indices are between the upper limit and the lower limit. The limits are obtained from the linear model which is constructed on the basis of the conjoint analysis. The procedure is evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation in terms of the mean square error of estimator. The simulation results indicate that the proposed procedure is superior to the existing methods.

  • The distribution of phenolic components of Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng KG) and American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium, AG) were compared by thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Silica gel TLC gave 3~4 spots, while $NH_2$ HPTLC 5~6 spots, which were colored by both $FeCl_3$/$K_3Fe(CN)_6$ and Folin-Ciocalteu. The distribution of phenolic components was quite different between KG and AG. Especially, a polyphenol (m.w. 578), which had been isolated from KG by the author, was not found in AG. This result suggests that the polyphenol could be used as an index compound for the differentiation of KG from AG.

  • $Ti_xSi_{1-x}O_y$ (TSO) thin films are fabricated using plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition. The Ti content in the TSO films is controlled by adjusting the sub-cycle ratio of $TiO_2$ and $SiO_2$. The refractive indices of $SiO_2$ and $TiO_2$ are 1.4 and 2.4, respectively. Hence, tailoring of the refractivity indices from 1.4 to 2.4 is feasible. The controllability of the refractive index and film thickness enables application of an antireflection coating layer to TSO films for use as a thin film solar cell. The TSO coating layer on an Si wafer dramatically reduces reflectivity compared to a bare Si wafer. In the measurement of the current-voltage characteristics, a nonlinear coefficient of 13.6 is obtained in the TSO films.

  • Evapotranspiration and rainfall-runoff are the major components of hydrological cycle and thereby the changes of them can directly affect the wetness/dryness or runoff characteristics of basins. In this study the wetness/dryness in Geum river basin are classified by dint of cumulative probability density function of monthly moisture index and the long term changes of them are analyzed based on climatic water balance concept. The drought events in Geum river basin are selected through evaluation of monthly moisture index and the various hydrological properties of them are investigated in detail. Also the trends of time-series of climatic water balance components are examined by Seasonal Kendall test and the variability of hydrological cycle in Geum river basin during the recent decade is inquired. It is judged that the results of this study can be contributed to establishment of the counter plan against the future drought events as the fundamental information.

  • A fast and simple sampling and sample preparation device, (NTD) has been developed and applied to sample and analyze volatile components from ground coffee beans. Coffee fragrances and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were sampled by the NTD and then analyzed by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Divinylbenzene (DVB) particles (80/100 mesh size) were the sorbent bed of the NTD. More than 150 volatile components were first identified based on the database of the mass library and then finally 30 fragrances including caffeine were further confirmed by comparing experimental retention indices (i.e. Kovat index) with literature retention indices. Total sampling time was 10 minutes and no extra solvent extraction and/or reconstitution step need. Straight n-alkanes (C6-C20) were used as retention index probes for the calculation of experimental retention indices. In addition, this report suggests that an empty needle can be an alternative platform for analyzing polymers by pyrolysis-GC/MS.

  • We analyze competitiveness of material and component industry(MCI) of Korea, China and Japan using trade data, OECD ITCS database with HS-code system. We use unit price indices, export unit price index, import unit price index, and TOT unit price index. These indices provide quality information from trade data of value and quantity. Our results show that there are quality gaps among three countries, and that China expand development potential, and the results vary as sectors. It implies that R&D investment to improve quality of MCI products is essential and that sector-specific policy is necessary.

  • As a part of studies on the quality control of crude drug preparation (So-Shi-Ho-Tang), index components of Glycyrrhizae Radix were identified by TLC and quantified by HPLC. Specific red spot (Rf=0.47) was identified in acid hydrolysate of glycosidic fraction on silica gel plate with benzene/ethyl acetate (1 : 1, v/v). The content of glycyrrhizin was determined by quantification of glycyrrhetinic acid by HPLC on ${\mu}-Bondapak\;C_{18}$ column with $MeOH/H_2O/HAc$ (78 : 19 : 3, v/v). Its recovery rate in the extract granules, compared to the content in the Glycyrrhizae Radix, was $83.3{\pm}0.7%$.

  • Studies on the interrelationship between biological yield and harvest index, and their association with shoot rearing were carried out in 9 promising mulberry genotypes, which indicated significant variations among genotypes. Biological yield had close association with leaf yield components indicating that they are inter-related for higher productivity in mulberry, Biological yield revealed highly significant positive correlation with important leaf yield components. However height of the longest branch showed negative correlation with biological yield. Genotypes with higher biological yield associated with low ratio of stem weight to leaf weight and high Harvest index on dry weight basis are to be selected for shoot rearing. Biological yield recorded on fresh weight basis had less impact on the present study in comparison to dry weight basis.

  • In baseball, the traditional measure of pitchers are wins and ERA. But these statistics are influenced by luck or team power. So sabermetrician proposes a number of indicators that predict future performance. We determine a new measure, which we call pitching grade index (PGI) that efficiently summarizes a pitcher's performance on a numerical scale using principal components analysis. The PGI statistic can often be useful to assessing a pitcher's individual contribution. Also K-means clustering algorithm are used for segmentation of players into groups.
