Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is widely used as a method of removing nitrogen oxide in large-capacity thermal power generation systems. Uniform mixing of the injected ammonia and the inlet flue gas is very important to the performance of the denitrification reduction process in the catalyst bed. In the present study, a computational analysis technique was applied to the ammonia injection system design process of a denitrification facility. The applied model is the denitrification facility of an 800 MW class coal-fired power plant currently in operation. The flow field to be solved ranges from the inlet of the ammonia injection system to the end of the catalyst bed. The flow was analyzed in the two-dimensional domain assuming incompressible. The steady-state turbulent flow was solved with the commercial software named ANSYS-Fluent. The nozzle arrangement gap and injection flow rate in the ammonia injection system were chosen as the design parameters. A total of four (4) cases were simulated and compared. The root mean square of the NH3/NO molar ratio at the inlet of the catalyst layer was chosen as the optimization parameter and the design of the experiment was used as the base of the optimization algorithm. The case where the nozzle pitch and flow rate were adjusted at the same time was the best in terms of flow uniformity.
In this study, the noise contributions by the duct, stator and rotor, which are the propulsor components, are evaluated to identify the flow noise source in cavitation and non-cavitation conditions on pumpjet propulsion and the noise levels in both conditions are compared. The unsteady incompressible Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation based on the homogeneous mixture assumption is applied on the suboff submarine hull and pumpjet propeller in the cavitation tunnel, and the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method and Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model are used to describe the two-phase flow. Based on the flow simulation results, the acoustic analogy formulated by Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-H) equation is applied to predict the underwater radiated noise. The noise contributions are evaluated by using the three types of impermeable integral surface on the duct, stator and rotor, and the two types of permeable integral surface surrounding the propulsor. As a result of noise prediction, the contribution by the stator is insignificant, but it affects the generation of flow noise source due to flow separation in the duct and rotor, and the noise is predominantly radiated into the upward and right where the flow separations are. Also, the noise is radiated into the thrust direction due to pressure fluctuation between suction and pressure sides on the rotor blades, and the it can be seen that the cavitation effect into the noise can be considered through the permeable integral surface.
The selective catalytic reduction system is a highly effective technique for the denitrification of the flue gases emitted from the industrial facilities. The distribution of mixing ratio between ammonia and nitrogen oxide at the inlet of the catalyst layers is important to the efficiency of the de-NOx process. In this study, computational analysis tools have been applied to improve the uniformity of NH3/NO molar ratio by controlling the flow rate of the ammonia injection nozzles according to the distribution pattern of the nitrogen oxide in the inlet flue gas. The root mean square of NH3/NO molar ratio was chosen as the optimization parameter while the design of experiment was used as the base of the optimization algorithm. As the inlet conditions, four (4) types of flow pattern were simulated; i.e. uniform, parabolic, upper-skewed, and random. The flow rate of the eight nozzles installed in the ammonia injection grid was adjusted to the inlet conditions. In order to solve the two-dimensional, steady, incompressible, and viscous flow fields, the commercial software ANSYS-FLUENT was used with the k-𝜖 turbulence model. The results showed that the improvement of the uniformity ranged between 9.58% and 80.0% according to the inlet flow pattern of the flue gas.

In the present study, a flow analysis for estimating the wave loads acting on a stationary floating body inside a viscous numerical wave tank was performed using the commercial software FLUENT. The governing equations for the viscous and incompressible fluid motion were the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations, and a piston-type wavemaker was employed to reproduce wave environments. First, the optimal simulation conditions were derived through numerical tests for the wavemaker and wave absorber, and then the wave loads and wave run-up on a vertical truncated cylinder were estimated and compared with the experimental and other numerical results.
For Underwater vehicles, Unwanted roll excursions are inevitable as they are caused by induced propeller torque, disturbances, and banking motion during turns. To estimate the manoeuvring performance of underwater vehicle, it is necessary to obtain the roll coefficient of body. This paper was covered estimation of roll coefficient of underwater vehicle using STAR-CCM+, commercial CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) code. The RANS equations for incompressible fluid flows was solved numerically by using a finite volume method. An MRF(Moving Reference Frame) Method was Also adopted for rotations of body. For the validation, the flow around a DARPA SUBOFF bare hull model was simulated and good agreement with experiments was obtained. And Pure roll coefficients were calculated and campared with the experimental data which were presented by Seoul National University. Finally, an underwater vehicle model with propeller was simulated and analyzed for estimation of roll coefficient variation caused by induced propeller torque.

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method has a good adaptability for the simulation of free surface flow problems. There are two forms of SPH. One is weak compressible SPH and the other one is incompressible SPH (ISPH). Compared with the former one, ISPH method performs better in many cases. ISPH based on Rankine source solution can perform better than traditional ISPH, as it can use larger stepping length by avoiding the second order derivative in pressure Poisson equation. However, ISPH_R method needs to solve the sparse linear matrix for pressure Poisson equation, which is one of the most expensive parts during one time stepping calculation. Iterative methods are normally used for solving Poisson equation with large particle numbers. However, there are many iterative methods available and the question for using which one is still open. In this paper, three iterative methods, CGS, Bi-CGstab and GMRES are compared, which are suitable and typical for large unsymmetrical sparse matrix solutions. According to the numerical tests on different cases, still water test, dam breaking, violent tank sloshing, solitary wave slamming, the GMRES method is more efficient than CGS and Bi-CGstab for ISPH method.
Study on swimming of microorganisms like, sperm motility, cilia beating, bacterial flagellar propulsion has found immense significance in the field of biological fluiddynamics. Because of the complexity involved, it is challenging for the researchers to model such problems. Immersed boundary method has proved its efficacy in the field of biological fluiddynamics, The present work aims at performing a numerical study on the microorganism locomotion using the immersed boundary method proposed by Peskin[1]. A two-dimensional model of the microorganism is modeled as thin elastic filament described as a sine wave. The neutrally buoyant organism undergoing deformations is immersed in a viscous and incompressible fluid. The fluid quantities are described using Eulerian coordinates and the immersed body is represented by Lagrangian coordinates. The Eulerian and Lagrangian variables are connected by the Dirac delta function. The Navier-Stokes equations governing the fluid flow are solved using the fractional step method on a staggered Cartesian grid system. The developed numerical code in FORTRAN will be validated by comparing the numerical results with the available results.

Theoretical and experimental techniques to analyze the two-dimensional liquid motion in a tank are discussed. A Lagrangian FEM with a velocity correction procedure is introduced to describe incompressible free surface fluid flow. A mesh rezoning technique is used to prevent strong distortion of finite elements in the Lagrangian description. Model test technique for sloshing tank is developed using a hydraulic type bench tester. The influence of the variation in the exciting frequency and amplitude are observed for various fill depths. The results of theoretical calculations are compared with those of experiments.

The shape optimization of an airfoil has been performed for an incompressible viscous flow. In this study, Pareto frontier sets, which are global and non-dominated solutions, can be obtained without various weighting factors by using the multi-objective genetic algorithm An NACA0012 airfoil is considered as a baseline model, and the profile of the airfoil is parameterized and rebuilt with four Bezier curves. Two curves, front leading to maximum thickness, are composed of five control points and the rest, from maximum thickness to tailing edge, are composed of four control points. There are eighteen design variables and two objective functions such as the lift and drag coefficients. A generation is made up of forty-five individuals. After fifteenth evolutions, the Pareto individuals of twenty can be achieved. One Pareto, which is the best of the . reduction of the drag furce, improves its drag to $13\%$ and lift-drag ratio to $2\%$. Another Pareto, however, which is focused on increasing the lift force, can improve its lift force to $61\%$, while sustaining its drag force, compared to those of the baseline model.

The media transport systems, such as printers, copy machines, facsimiles, ATMs, cameras, etc. have been widely used and being developed rapidly. In the development of those sheet-handling machineries, it is important to predict the static and dynamic behavior of the sheet with a high degree of reliability because the sheets are fed and stacked at such a high speed. Flexible media are very thin, light and flexible, so they behave in geometric nonlinearity with large displacement and large rotation but small strain. In the flexible media analysis, aerodynamic effect from the surrounding air must be included because any small force can make large deformation. In this paper, surrounding air was modeled by incompressible Navier-Stokes flow and an arbitrary Lagranigan-Eulerian(ALE) finite element method with automatic mesh-updating technique was formulated for large domain changes. In the numerical simulations, the results with consideration of the air fast decayed and converged into static results while the results without considering air oscillated continuously.
