  • An experimental study on LII signal images from soot particles in a flame has been carried out in order to investigate the effect of the incident laser characteristics. By changing the wavelength of the incident laser beam, the LII signal was saturated at smaller laser power with 532 nm than 1,064 nm. This implies that the larger absorption coefficient of soot particles at 532 nm would influence the LII signal characteristic. Using the deconvolution technique, the projected LII line images were coverted to reconstruct the local LII signals inside the beam. The results show that the LII images at ICCD camera result from the integration of LII signal across the laser beam.

  • We report on the design of a holographic homogenizer composed of a periodic hologram and a condensing lens. If the hologram is periodic, the homogenizer is free from the alignment error of the incident laser beam. Holographic homogenizer also has an advantage of the flexibility in the size of the target beam. We calculated theoretically the Fraunhofer diffracted wave function when a rectangular laser beam is incident on a periodic hologram. The diffracted wave is the sum of sinc functions at regular distance. The width of each sinc function depends on the size of the incident laser beam and the distance between the sinc functions depends on the period of the hologram. We calculated numerically the diffracted light intensity for various ratios of the size of the incident laser beam to the period of the hologram. The results show that it is possible to make the diffracted beam uniform at a certain value of the ratio. The uniformity is high at the central part of the target area and low near the edge. The more sinc functions are included in the target area, the larger portion of the area becomes uniform and the higher is the uniformity at the central part. Therefore, we can make efficient homogenizer if we design a hologram so that the maximum number of the diffracted beams may be included in the target area.

  • Moire interferometry using a diffraction grating and a laser is a powerful technique for analizing small deformation of a specimen. In the method, the x and y-directional fringe patterns are obtained by using the x and y-directional sets of two beams. If the both sets of two beams are simultaneously incident to the specimen, the x and y-directional fringe patterns are super imposed. In this case, it is difficult to separate each directional fringe pattern. Therefore each fringe pattern has been separately recorded by selecting each set of two beams. In order to analyze a two-dimensional strain changing with time, Moire interferometry using the two-dimensional fourier transform method is proposed and the x and y-directional fringes are separated. By this method, the thermal deformation of a glass plate is analyzed.

  • The injection-locking of the broad-area diode laser was analysed by using the Fabry-Perot model. The far-field pattern of the output beam was able to be treated by superposing the individual beams emitted from the front facet due to the multiple reflections between the front and rear facets. and the exact near and far field patterns were obtained. The angle-steering effect according to change of the incident frequency was changed was calculated and found to be 0.022 degree/GHz with a bandwidth of 120 GHz.20 GHz.

  • This paper describes a measuring device of glass thickness using machine vision and image processing techniques on real-time. Today, the machine vision enable to inspect fast and exactly than human's eyes. The presented system has advantages of continuous measurement, flexibility and good accuracy. The system consists of a laser diode, a CCD camera with PC. The camera located on the opposite side of the incident beam measures the distance between two reflected laser beams from the glass top and bottom surface. We apply a binary algorithm to convert and analyze the image from camera to PC. Laser point coordination by border tracing algorithm is used to find the center of beam circle. The measured result was compared with micrometer and showed 0.002mm accuracy. Finally, the errors were discussed how to minimize the influence of glass wedge angle and angular error of moving stage.

  • In this paper, using the value theoretically calculated to emit multidirectionally a beam coming into an optical fiber with diameter of $125{\mu}m$, we modeled and produced a cone-shaped structure at the distal end of the fiber. A numerical simulation was performed for an optical fiber tip in which all incident beams were totally reflected and emitted toward the side, as well as for an optical fiber tip from which the beams could be emitted forward and sideways simultaneously. We produced multidirectional-firing optical fiber tips based on the simulation result and model. Laser fabrication of the optical fiber was done by processing a cone-shaped structure at the distal end of an optical fiber with diameter of $125{\mu}m$ using a femtosecond pulsed laser and polishing the processed surface with a $CO_2$ laser. We also conducted an analysis to compare experimental and simulation results.

  • A high-power Yb:YAG thin-disc laser with radial or azimuthal polarization incorporating an intracavity S-waveplate is reported. Depending on the rotational angle of the S-waveplate placed in the cavity, a Yb:YAG thin-disc laser yields 10.8 W and 10.2 W of continuous-wave outputs with radial and azimuthal polarization for an incident pump power of 131 W, corresponding to slope efficiencies of 22.9% and 23.7%, respectively. The output characteristics for each polarization state were investigated in detail by analyzing the insertion loss and the mode overlap efficiency due to the S-waveplate. Further prospects for power scaling will be discussed.

  • This paper have derived an expression(the fringe modle is used) for the photocurrelation-correlation function for a cross-beam laser velocimeter, taking into account the effects of atmospheric turbulence on the amplitude and phase of the incident beams. the result, as long as the atmospheric disturbances do not greatly damp out sinusoidal variations of the photocurrent-correlation function in the time it takes a particle to travel the fringe-separation distance, the disturbances do not hinder the determination of the velocity of the partides from the correlation funtion.(the scattering particles are assumed to have a well-defined V).

  • Two-dimensional nano-patterns are fabricated using immersion holographic lithography. The photoresist layer is exposed to an interference pattern generated by two incident laser beams($\lambda$=441.6 nm, He-Cd laser) of which the pitch size is less than 200 nm. Good surface profiles of the 2 dimensional patterns are achieved by trimming the lithography process parameters, such as, exposure time, developing time and refractive index of medium liquid.
