  • This study suggested the necessity of efficient volunteer management plan and continuous volunteer expansion plan to enhance the continuity of volunteer activity by local government and induce more systematic and stable volunteer activity. As a prior concrete plans for volunteer expansion, this study suggested establishing the incentive for expanding continuous volunteers through coexisting and cooperation, enhancing the propulsion will and providing an institutional strategy of local and metropolitan government heads, improving volunteer's internal capability, and reinforcing administrative support and financial aid. Also this study emphasized the effectiveness of various volunteer-related matters such as daring support and investment to drastically expand continuous volunteers and their activities.

  • This study examines the impact of corporate governance on capital structure decisions based on a large panel of Chinese listed firms. Using the system Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) estimator to control for unobserved heterogeneity, endogeneity, and persistency in capital structure decisions, we document that the ownership structure plays a significant role in determining leverage ratios. More specially, we find that managerial ownership has a positive and significant impact on firms' leverage, consistent with the incentive alignment hypothesis. We also find that managerial ownership only affects the leverage decisions of private firms in the post-2005 split share reform period. State ownership negatively influence leverage decisions implying that SOEs may face fewer restrictions in equity issuance and may receive favourable treatments when applying for seasoned equity ¿nancing, thus use less debt. Furthermore, our results show that while foreign ownership negatively influences leverage decisions, legal person shareholding positively influences firms' leverage decisions only for state controlled firms. We also find that the board structure variables (board size and the proportion of independent directors) do not influence firms' capital structure decisions. Our findings suggest that recent ownership reforms have been successful in terms of providing incentive to managers through managerial shareholdings to take risky financial choices.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the differences between the severity of punishments for traffic laws related offenders and the choice of policy measures with a view to reducing traffic accidents. To this end, government data on the drivers given a sentence of license suspension or revocation were collected and analyzed in terms of sex, age, type of driver's license, driving career, number of traffic laws violations, and number of traffic accidents generated. The statistics of analysis of covariance and tests of significance were used and conducted to compare the effectiveness of punishment for the penalty and the incentive groups. The results showed that the incentive policy measure on the drivers who violate traffic regulations repeatedly is more effective to reduce the number of traffic offenders and traffic accidents.

  • Internal labor market in a firm is normally designed to solve the adverse-selection problem as well as the moral hazard problem in the world of information asymmetry. The internal labor market of a Korean university as a non-profit organization should have the same function as the firm. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the economic performances of a university's internal labor market, using confidential data. And I suggest how to improve the performances of a Korean university's interal labor market. Specifically, I suggest incentive pay for university professors. I also suggest eight job classification and job-related pay system for staffs and secretaries to enhance the efficiency of the university's internal labor market.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the systematic breathing exercise program on recovery of patients with pneumothorax. Methods: An nonequivalent interrupted time-series control group posttest design was used. Participants were 40 inpatients (Experimental Group; 20, Control Group; 20) at the one University Hospital in U city. The systematic breathing exercise program including education on deep breathing exercise using incentive spirometry, Range of motion (ROM) exercise in shoulder joint, walking exercise and feedback were provided to the experimental group, while the control group carried out deep breathing exercise using incentive spirometry. The duration of chest tube insertion, duration of hospitalization, and frequency of analgesics use were measured. The data were analysed by a SPSS/WIN program. Results: The duration of chest tube insertion and duration of hospitalization in the experimental group were significantly shorter than the control group. However, there is no difference of the frequency of analgesics use between the experimental group and control group. Conclusion: The result showed that the systematic breathing exercise program was effective to improve recovery of patients with pneumothorax. This program can be applied in hospitals for patients with pneumothorax as one of the nursing intervention modalities.

  • It is urgently-needed to construct a green supply chain (GSC) from collection of used products through recycling of them to sales of products using the recycled parts. Besides, it is necessary to consider the uncertainty in product demand as a risk in a GSC. This study proposes the optimal operations for a GSC with a retailer and a manufacturer. A retailer pays an incentive for collection of used products from customers and sells a single type of products in a market. A manufacturer produces the products ordered by the retailer, using recyclable parts with acceptable quality and compensates the collection cost of used products as to the recycled parts. This paper discusses the following risk attitudes: risk-neutral attitude, risk-averse attitude, and risk-prone attitude. Using mean-variance analysis, the optimal decisions for product order quantity, collection incentive, and lower limit of quality level, in the decentralized GSC (DGSC) and the integrated GSC (IGSC) are made. DGSC optimizes the utility function of each member. IGSC does that of the whole system. The analysis numerically investigates how (i) risk attitude and (ii) quality of recyclable parts affect the optimal operations. Supply chain coordination between GSC members to shift IGSC from DGSC is discussed.

  • Purpose - This study intends to verify if the m-VALS developed to help the establishment of the mobile shopping vitalization strategy is classified as the same type as it is in the adult customers. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 84 valid copies of the questionnaire were used. Factor analysis was performed first, as well as performing reliability and validity analysis after deducing the factors, and the simple regression analysis and multiple regression analysis techniques were employed. Results - The m-VALS needs verification through various groups and the delicateness of the questions needs to be ensured; further, for all the lifestyle types in relation to the mobile shopping acceptance incentives, all the remaining lifestyle types excepting the sociability-oriented type had a positive effect on consistent use intention. Conclusion - It is implied that the charm of the mobile shopping App should be enhanced and that, when establishing the mobile shopping mall with which the positive frequent and interactive communication is possible along with the opportunity to be together, the positive achievement can be obtained.

  • This paper proposes the scheme to improve the current direct load control(DLC) program by inspecting the problems of the DLC program. In order to increase the number of the customers participating DLC program, a reduction of the base incentive and an increase of the direct load control incentive are suggested based on the interruption cost of electric power considering the characteristics of load types and the introduction of demand side bidding is recommended. Secondly, the standards of power system operations is required to control DLC program efficiently for the penalty, interruption times, the number of interrupting loads, notice time for the load interruption and the periods of the DLC program contract.

  • Recently, Korea's electric industry is in the midst of a period of profound changes in the structure and function, including the introduction of market competition in the generation sector. Therefore, it is difficult to promote long-term capacity planning and new generating capacity construction which have been driven by KEPCO so far, after the introduction of market competition, so new generating capacity construction and security of reserve margin is needed through self·regulation plan of private generation producers by market mechanism. According to the competition in the generation sector, a new paradigm is necessary to the long-term capacity planning driven by the Government. This paper analyzes the plan and the incentive level able to guide the new generation capacity construction considering the uncertainty risk in a period of introduction of competition. In addition, this paper analyzes the plan able to guide the new capacity construction by market function at the stage which market become established and Government's role to solve the anxiety about the capacity supply and demand.

  • Using unemployment insurance and income-contingent loan (ICL) that conditions repayment by debtors upon their incomes this paper characterizes an efficient income support system for the unemployed, which maximizes their lifetime utilities by effectively enhancing inter-state and inter-temporal consumption-smoothing subject to incentive constraints on the part of the beneficiaries. This paper also emphasizes the generality of the argument for a mix of ICL and subsidy that may be applied potentially to many types of government welfare program.
