While ranitidine is well known to be absorbed rapidly, the underlying cause of variable bioavailability in intra- and inter-subjects has not been clarified yet. Intestinal permeability is a key controlling factor for oral absorption of highly soluble drugs, In the present study, intestinal ferfusions have been conducted to determine the intestinal permeabilities(Peffs) of ranitidine in the rats, dogs and humans and compared to the estimated fractions of dose absorbed (FAs) in humans. A new in vivo methodology, using a regional segmental perfusion technique, has been used in the dogs and humans. In situ single-pass perfusion experiments have been performed in the rats. In the dog and human studies, perfusion experiments have been conducted on two periods to determine the intrasubject variability, There was low significant intrasubject variation as compared to intersubject variation. The Peffs of ranitidine were 33%, 51%, and 45% inthe rats, dogs and humans, respectively. The FAs were approximately the same for all three species models, suggesting rats and dogs are good animal models for estimating the oral absorption of ranitidine in humans. In addition, the estimated extent of absorption of this drug is consistent with the average bioavailability, indicating that ranitidine has permeability-limited absorption characteristics. Understanding the tritium release and retention behavior of candidate tritium breeder materials is crucial for breeder blanket design. Recently, a melt spraying process was developed to prepare Li4SiO4 pebbles, which were subsequently subjected to the in-pile tritium production and extraction platform in China Mianyang Research Reactor (CMRR) to investigate their in-situ tritium release behavior and irradiation performance. The results demonstrate that HT is the main tritium release form, and adding hydrogen to the purge gas reduces tritium retention while increasing the HT percent in the purge gas. Post-irradiation experiments reveal that the irradiated pebbles darken in color and their grains swell, but the mechanical properties remain largely unchanged. It is concluded that the tritium residence time of Li4SiO4 made by melt spraying method at 467 ℃ is approximately 23.34 h. High-density Li4SiO4 pebbles exhibit tritium release at relatively low temperatures (<600 ℃) that is mainly controlled by bulk diffusion. The diffusion coefficient at 525 ℃ and 550 ℃ is 1.19 × 10-11 cm2/s and 5.34 × 10-11 cm2/s, respectively, with corresponding tritium residence times of 21.3 hours and 4.7 hours.

In this study, bedding rock permeability was measured using Berea sandstones with three different beddings. The fracture permeability was also measured using tight sandstone with two different fracture regimes considering in-situ stress conditions. The Berea sandstone with vertical, horizontal and non-bedding was used to analyze evolution of permeability upon in-situ stress conditions. In order to describe applied effective stress around rock in underground, the triaxial pressure cell & hydrostatic pressure cell was designed and permeability experiments were performed with controlled axial and confining pressures. The measurement of permeability was conducted by increasing and decreasing effective stress. The permeability of non-bedding rock sample is the most sensitive to applied stress conditions and fracture permeability of tight sandstone increases with fracture treatment with proppant.

This paper suggests another system for a cutting force measuring tool in a milling process. Generally, tool dynamometer is taken into account for the most appropriate cutting force measuring tool in the analysis of cutting mechanism. However, high price and limited space make it difficult to be in-situ system for controllable milling process. Although an alternative method using AC current of servo-motor has been suggested, it is unsuitable for cutting force control because of small upper frequency limit and noise. The cutting force measuring system is composed of two load cells placed between the moving table bracket and the nut flange part of ballscrew. It has many advantages such as low cost and wide range measurement than tool dynamometer because of the built-in moving table and the low cost load cell. The static and dynamic model of the measuring system using imbeded load cell is introduced. Various Experiments are carried out to validate both models. By comparing the cutting forces from a series of end milling experiments on the tool dynamometer and the system developed in this paper, the accuracy of the cutting force measuring system is verified. Upper frequency limit is measured by the experiment of dynamic characteristics.

This paper presents the results of laboratory investigation performed to study the role of different air sparging system parameters on the removal of benzene from saturated soils and groundwater. A series of one-dimensional experiments was conducted with predetermined contaminant concentrations and predetermined injected airflow rates and pressures to investigate the effect of soil type and the use of pulsed air injection on air sparging removal efficiency. On the basis of these studies, two-dimensional air sparging remediation systems were investigated to determine the effect of soil heterogeneity on the removal of benzene from three different homogeneous and heterogeneous soil profiles. This study demonstrated that the grain size of the soils affects the air sparging removal efficiency. Additionally, it was observed that pulsed air injection did not offer any appreciable enhancement to contaminant removal for the coarse sand; however, substantial reduction in system operating time was observed for fine sand. The 2-D experiments showed that air injected in coarse sand profiles traveled in channels within a parabolic zone. In well-graded sand the zone of influence was found to be wider due to high permeability and increased tortuosity of this soil type. The influence zone of heterogeneous soil (well-graded sand between coarse sand) showed the hybrid airflow patterns of the individual soil test. Overall, the mechanism of contaminant removal using air sparging from different soil conditions have been determined and discussed.

This study investigated the densification behavior of rhenium alloys including W-25 wt.%Re and Re-2W-1Ta (pure Re) during sintering. The dilatometry experiments were carried out to obtain the in-situ shrinkage in $H_2$ atmosphere. The measured data was analyzed through shrinkage, strain rate and relative density, and then symmetrically treated to construct the linearized form of master sintering curve (MSC) and MSC as a well-known and straightforward approach to describe the densification behavior during sintering. The densification behaviors for each material were analyzed in many respects including apparent activation energy, densification parameter, and densification ratio. MSC with a minimal set of preliminary experiments can make the densification behavior to be characterized and predicted as well as provide guideline to sinter cycle design. Considering the results of linearized form and MSC, it was confirmed that the W-25 wt.%Re compared to Pure Re is more easily densified at the relatively low temperature.
Two different sensors (here, KOMPSAT and RADARSAT) are considered for ship detection, and are used to delineate the detection performance for their data The experiments are set for coastal regions of Mokpo Port and Ulsan Port and field experiments on board pilot boat are conducted to collect in situ ship validation information such as ship type and length This paper introduce mainly the experiment result of ship detection by both RADARSAT SAR imagery and land-based RADAR data, operated by the local Authority of South Korean, so called vessel traffic system (VTS) radar. Fine imagery of Ulsan Port was acquired on June 19, 2004 and in-situ data such as wind speed and direction, taking pictures of ships and natural features were obtained aboard a pilot ship. North winds, with a maximum speed of 3.1 m/s were recorded Ship's position, size and shape and natural features of breakwaters, oil pipeline and alongside ship were compared using SAR and VTS. It is shown that KOMPSAT/EOC has a good performance in the detection of a moving ship at a speed of kts or more an hour that ship and its wake can be imaged. The detection capability of RADARSAT doesn't matter how fast ship is running and depends on a ship itself, e.g. its material, length and type. Our results indicate that SAR can be applicable to automated ship detection for a VTS and SAR combination service.

Ultrasonic waves have several mechanical, chemical, and biological effects on a saturated soil medium. Their mechanical effects, popularly known as cavitation. Cavitation is the rapid and repeated formation, and resulting implosion, of imcrobubbles in a liquid, resulting in the propagation of microscopic shock waves. In a soil-liquid system, their mechanical effects generate high differntial fluid-particle velocities and microscopic shock waves. The velocity perturbations are capable of dislodging oil in the system by overcoming the forces binding oil to sand particles. In this study, a series of laboratory experiments involving the simple flushing and ultrasonic flushing were carried out. An increase in permeability and oil removal rate were observed in ultrasonic flushing tests. Some practical implications of these results are discussed in terms of technical feasibility of in situ implementation of ultrasonics.

In this study, the combined electrokinetic and ultrasonic remediation technique, ultrasonically enhanced electrokinetic technique, was studied for the removal of heavy metal and organic substance in contaminated soils. The electrokinetic technique has been applied to remove mainly the heavy metal and the ultrasonic technique has been to remove mainly organic substance in contaminated soil. The laboratory soil flushing tests combined electrokinetic and ultrasonic technique were conducted using specially designed and fabricated devices to determine the effect of these both techniques. A series of laboratory experiments involving the simple, electrokinetic, ultrasonic, and electrokinetic & ultrasonic flushing test were carried out. A soil admixed with sand and kaolin was used as a test specimen, and Pb and ethylene glycol were used as contaminants of heavy metal and organic substance. An increase in out flow, permeability and contaminant removal rate was observed in electrokinetic and ultrasonic flushing tests. Some practical implications of these results are discussed in terms of technical feasibility of in situ implementation of electrokinetic ultrasonic remediation technique.
Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental process occurring in a wide range of astrophysical, heliospheric and laboratory plasmas. This process alters magnetic topology and triggers rapid conversion of magnetic energy into thermal heating and nonthermal particle acceleration. Efforts to understand the physics of magnetic reconnection have been made across multiple disciplines using remote observations of solar flares and in-situ measurements of geomagnetic storms and substorms as well as laboratory and numerical experiments. This review focuses on the progress achieved with solar flare observations in which most reconnection-related signatures could be resolved in both space and time. The emphasis is on various observable emission features in the low solar atmosphere which manifest the coronal magnetic reconnection because these two regions are magnetically connected to each other. The research and application perspectives of solar magnetic reconnection are briefly discussed and compared with those in other plasma environments.
