This study was to examine the differential impacts of social experiences and conditions on health among men and women aged 65 years or older, using data of the "2004 Survey on living Status of the Korean Elderly". The outcome variables were any disability, self-rated health, multiple morbidity, and self-rated quality of life. Multiple Classification Analysis was used to test the differential exposure to social factors contributes to gender difference in health. Gender differences in vulnerability of each individual socioeconomic, psycho-social, and behavioral factors for health were assessed by comparing logit coefficients in men and women. I found that gender difference in exposure to social factors contribute to inequalities in health between older men and women, however, gender inequalities remained after controlling for differential exposure except in case of quality of life. In addition, gender differences in health were further explained by differential vulnerabilities to social factors between men and women. Findings of this study may affirm the importance of further and deeper investigation of gender differences in health in later life. Gender sensitive approach in health planning and polices for the elderly is also suggested.
The aim of this study is to observe the settlement experience among elderly North Korean women defectors who have been living in South Korea, and to understand their experience more fully. In this study, we adopted Colaizzi's phenomenological research method. The research participants consisted of six elderly North Korean women defectors in the age group of 65 to 70 who have settled in South Korea over three years. We utilized the purposed sampling and an in-depth interview for data collection. Data analysis was based on Colaizzi's six specific steps. As a result, eight theme clusters and sixteen themes were deduced from this research. The eight theme clusters are , , , , , , , . Based on these results, we discussed the meaning of elderly North Korean women's settlement experience in South Korea from a socio-cultural aspect and provided social welfare implications and future research suggestions.

The purpose of this study is to understand how a teacher's teaching can be changed while he or she teaches the same contents in different classes. The qualitative research method was used in this study. Data were collected from classroom observations, several in-depth interviews, and stimulated-recall interviews after each class. All the data were transcribed and analyzed interpretively, and then, the results of the analysis were checked by each participating teacher. The results are as follows: First, changes appeared in each class in terms of the teaching items, tools, sequence, and time, even though the same teacher taught the same contents. It showed that the teacher's teaching practice changed immediately and intuitively in class. Second, teachers tried to implement "exploratory teaching" or "move-testing teaching" to address the emerging problems during their teaching. They then reflected on and modified their own teaching. This type of change, which happened during the teaching practice, can be an example of "Reflection-in-practice." Thus, the results of this study can provide helpful insights into how teachers might adapt and reflect in their teaching. It suggests that teachers need to recognize their subconscious teaching changes and learn "Reflection-in-practice."

The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status of the second year of application of Integrated Science and Science Laboratory Experiments, which are common courses of high school, and to explore suggestions for curriculum development in the future. To this end, the results of the survey of a total of 244 science-core and general high schools were compared with the survey result of 2018 school year. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with nine science teachers of the focus group to discuss the current state of curriculum implementation. According to the results, as in the first year, most of the Integrated Science courses were implemented in 6-8 units, and in most schools the number of teachers in charge of Integrated Science per class were 3-4. In the teacher's focus group interview, teachers insisted that Integrated Science requires integrated teaching approaches and is good for generating students' interest, but it is difficult to implement process-based assessment due to issues such as ensuring fairness of assessment. Most of Science Laboratory Experiments courses were implemented in two semesters, one unit per semester, and there was little link between Integrated Science and Science Laboratory Experiments because of the different teaching staff. The school life record entry method of Science Laboratory Experiments has been changed to criterion-based assessment starting in 2019, so students' satisfaction or flow of classes is much better than expected, and teachers can teach without burden. Based on the research results, ways to support the settlement of Integrated Science and Science Laboratory Experiments as common subjects, and ways to improve those subjects in the next curriculum revision were suggested.
Various studies have been conducted to identify the concept of creativity and enhance it effectively. Many advanced countries in the field of design have already expanded the scope of design education from specialized education to universal education and utilized such design education as a curriculum for promoting the creativity. Although education industry in China has been growing rapidly with the increase in the national income, the current educational contents have been mostly focused on the subjects/contents for an entrance examination, with little consideration of creativity promotion for children. Therefore, as an effort to promote creativity of Chinese children, the current study developed a design education program utilizing Chinese cultural contents and verified its educational effectiveness in terms of creativity promotion. The program was developed in the following process: 1) exploring the program development direction through an in-depth interview with parents; 2) deriving three lesson plans through an ideation session with some experts in art education for children; and 3) selecting a final lesson plan through experts/parents evaluation and developing a final textbook. A total of 10 children were educated with the developed textbook, and their levels of creativity before and after the education were comparatively evaluated using Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). The study results showed that the education program developed in the current study significantly affected the children's creativity, which would contribute to promoting the children's creativity, and also, developing a new creativity education program in the future. Additionally, it is expected that the research methods employed in this study, that is, developing a creativity promotion program using some cultural/local contents, could be usefully/widely applied in various fields of education.
There are increasing numbers of North Korean defectors. Many of them enter universities and major in social welfare in order to get jobs. As a required course, they must participate in field practicum and many difficulties are expected. This study aims to examine the North Korean defectors' practicum experience in specific, and to support more effectively in the field work education. To achieve this purpose, female North Korean defectors who go to G cyber university and have finished their field practicums, were interviewed in an in-depth interview. The data were analyzed with the open coding through the constant comparison method as Grounded theory's initial analysis. As the result, the following was found: 49 concepts, 18 sub-categories, and 7 categories. The categories include difficulties in the process of preparation for and beginning with various obstacles; confusion due to the differences between the North Korean and South Korean culture; tasks and functions that were not expected, personal relationships which were burdensome to them; feeling a lack of professional competence; inevitable environmental circumstances, and personal problems. Based on the results, suggestions for better support in field practice education in the side of universities, community agencies, individual students and the general society were addressed.

Because individuals come together to form a society, society has characteristics that are different or similar. Furthermore, as globalization and language acquisition in other countries have been activated, the frequency of studying abroad has increased. While Korea also studies abroad, the number of students coming to Korea from other countries continues to increase, increasing. In particular, when there was interest in start-up businesses, the factors were discovered through exploratory research in order to identify factors affecting the level of growth in start-ups when they had different nationalities. In order to conduct exploratory research, the government wanted to check more in-depth information through semi-structured interviews with co-founder companies composed of Koreans and Chinese. The main keywords were repeated or emphasized continuously during the interview, and other keywords were obtained through additional questions. As a result, it has been confirmed that self-acceptance, cultural distance, entrepreneurship, knowledge quality and growth are very large keywords in the co-founding start-up of different countries. The proposition was established as having a relationship of justice with self-acceptance, cultural distance and entrepreneurship as independent variables and with the degree of growth as dependent variables. In particular, in the case of co-founding with different nationalities, the most important knowledge quality was represented the effect of reverse U in each relationship (the relationship between self-acceptance, cultural distance, entrepreneurship and growth).
The purpose of this study was to provide a better understanding of foreign-born Korean children's early school adjustment in the U.S. The interaction between the foreign-born Korean children in the U.S. and several of the children's microsystems, including family, school, and peer was assessed to meet this purpose. The study subjects were 43 foreign-bom Korean children who were sampled from Korean Sunday Language schools and who attended local schools in the Boston area, MA, USA. Quantitative analysis was conducted to identify which variables of interest predicted the early adjustment of this group of children. Furthermore, in-depth interviews were conducted with mothers of the children from the top and bottom groups 1) the most successful (in the top quartile) and 2) the least successful adjustment groups (in the bottom quartile) sorted by scores on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R). The interview results were analyzed to elicit maternal perceptions/beliefs on education, in general, and those of home-school relationships, in specific. Several conclusions can be drawn from both the quantitative and qualitative analyses. The results of multiple regression and path analysis showed that the children's language development predicted their adjustment, but the effects of the other two variables, peer relationships and school experiences, on the adjustment of children, were mediated through the children's language. Moreover, common themes and patterns in the responses to a series of open-ended questions emerged from the interviews with the two groups of mothers. The two mothers of the least successful group were concerned about their children's future and school success, but thev did not show anv responsive attitudes toward achieving this goal. By contrast, the mothers from the most successful group were self-determined with regard to their children's education and had strong beliefs and values on how to raise their children in the new culture. The implications were discussed.
Built upon ethnographic method such as participant observation and in-depth interview, this study analyzes the material culture of electronic flower auctions at Yangjae Flower Market. From the viewpoint of Actor-Network Theory(ANT), this research examines how human actors like dealers and auctioneers interact with nonhuman actors such as market devices and these interactions form networks called "agencement." This research is focused on three main objectives: first, to study how the performance of auctions - i.e. the interactions between auctioneers and dealers - change in the wake of new market devices in the auctions; secondly, to look into what changes artifacts bring to the social relationships between auctioneers and dealers; lastly, to analyze the influence of new market devices on auction price in the market. The results of this research are as follows. First, the appearance of new market devices generates changes in the performance of auctions, which means the change of 'agencement' of flower auctions. Direct interactions between auctioneers and dealers turned into indirect interactions through new market devices. Moreover, the changes in the agencement brought changes to the identity of auctioneers and dealers. Secondly, the new agencement caused by the inflow of new market devices formed the trust between the devices and human actors, which gave rise to the trust in electronic auction and in counterpart actors as well. In addition, new market devices lowered direct interactions between auctioneers and dealers and thus made more equal relationships between the two than before. Lastly, market devices like trading screen reduced the leverage of auctioneers by providing dealers with bidding information previously possessed by auctioneers much openly and dealers were able to decide auction prices in more reasonable and dispassionate manner. Economic agency, power, trust, price, and information in the market is material and sensory.
In this study, we analyzed knowledge management cases of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and examined knowledge management vision, promotion organization and knowledge management activity system. This study aims to clarify implications for successful knowledge management in government sector. In the case of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which was the subject of the study, it was evaluated as having performed well in the management activities of the government department in the evaluation of "Knowledge Target for 2018" jointly hosted by Maeil Economic Daily and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security. In this study, we conducted an in - depth interview with the knowledge management staff of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and analyzed the success factors of knowledge management in the government sector. First, the vision of knowledge management and the role of dedicated organization were very important. In addition, knowledge management system was used to effectively acquire, share, and accumulate knowledge and utilize it. In addition, appropriate compensation systems for knowledge management activities are also important success factors. Therefore, in order to encourage knowledge management activities, it is necessary for public institutions to establish an incentive system such as an economic compensation system for personnel sharing activities and HR personnel.
