  • In this paper, we investigated impurity content of carbon nanotube reinforced semiconductive shield materials and conventional semiconductive shield materials in power cables. To reduce impurity content, we used solution compounding method that an adding process of extra additives neglected. Impurity content measured through ICP-AES(Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy). Also, impurity measured Ca, Cu, Fe, Al, Mg, Na, K, Si in eight. As a result, carbon nanotube reinforced semiconductive shield materials is lower than conventional semiconductive shield materials in impurity content by ICP-AES.

  • One way to recycle the construction wastes is to use the waste concrete aggregates as the pavement materials. Although there are many studies and technical developments about waste concrete aggregates, the impurities produced in the process of the aggregate production prevent the use of the waste concrete aggregates in the pavement construction. In this study, the impurities included in the recycled waste aggregates were classified into inorganic and organic ones according to their characteristics, and the influences of each impurities on the pavement performance were presented. It was also showed that the limit of impurity content in the lean concrete base through the correlation between the inorganic impurity content and the compressive strength, and that in the granuler subbase layer through the correlation between the organic impurity content and the modified CBR. In conclusion, it is possible to apply waste concrete aggregates for the pavement when inorganic impurity content is less than 10% in the lean concrete base, and organic impurity content is less than 2% in granular subbase.

  • To investigate the influence of alkaline impurity K content on bubbles of quartz glass, samples were prepared based on $SiO_2$ sand with differing amounts of potassium hydroxide solution added by electric fusion. Bubble properties such as number, diameter and bubble fraction were determined using a stereoscopic microscope. The results of the observations indicated that an alkaline impurity content of 100 ppm had a good effect on bubble decline in quartz glass. The effect on OH was investigated by FTIR(Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy).

  • Low carbon steels containing Si of up to $1.2\;wt\%$ were oxidized in air at 1373 K and 1523 K, i.e. below and above the eutectic temperature of FeO and $Fe_2SiO_4$. The influence of a impurity element, S on behavior of scale formation during oxidation was investigated by using $M\"{o}chssbauer$ spectroscopy and EDS. This allowed establishment of an interface oxidation model of Si-added steel depending on temperature and an impurity element. A compound of FeO and FeS was formed in the scale/matrix interface of low carbon steels containing S of up to $0.03\;wt\%$ oxidized above 1213 K of the eutectic temperature. This was flat formed between $Fe_2SiO_4$ nodules along the scale/matrix interface without selective oxidation. It is due to low viscosity and high wettability of the compound of FeO and FeS in liquid. Conventional metallographic examinations revealed that roughness of the scale/matrix interface in Si-added steels became flat as the content of S increased. It was independent of oxidizing temperature and Si content. Effects of oxidizing temperature and an impurity element content on descaling characteristics in Si-added steels were evaluated by using a hydraulic descaling simulator. Good descaling characteristics was attributable to this flatness of the scale/matrix interface.

  • Distribution of Pr ions between Y- and Ba-site of the $Y(Ba_{1-Xn}Pr_{Xn})_2Cu_3O_y$ ($0{\leq}Xn{\leq}{0.3}$, Xn : nominal composition) material prepared by the solid state reaction method was studied. Although the samples have narrow superconducting transition, tiny peaks of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ impurity phase are included in the x-ray diffraction patterns suggesting that some of the Pr ions are entered into the Y-site. The distribution of Pr ions between Y- and Ba-site was determined by measuring the mass fraction of YBCO and $Y_2BaCuO_5$ phase for each sample through the Rietveld analysis of the x-ray diffraction data. About 60 % of Pr ions occupy the Y-site regardless of the Pr content. Various superconducting parameters such as the oxygen content and the hole concentration etc. are compared before and after the impurity correction.

  • Effects of metal impurities in insulation of distribution cables on electrical conduction of distribution cables was investigated. Samples of Al, Cu, Fe are fabricated as metallic impurities, and measured electrical conductivity in the voltage range of 0~10 KV. Temperature dependent effect of hysteresis curves and the relationship between forward and reverse current due to impurity content are discussed.

  • The content of $SiHCl_3$ as a trace impurity in $SiCl_4$ was analyzed by Near IR spectrophotometer with optical fiber. The strong absorption bands of $5345{\sim}5116cm^{-1}$ and $4848{\sim}4349cm^{-1}$ were used for analysis of $SiHCl_3$, and the detection limit of impurity $SiCl_3$ was appeared to be 0.005 % in the spectrum. The quantitative analysis by Near IR spectrophotometry showed the analytical possibility of trace impurity in $SiCl_4$ without sample pre-treatment not only in the laboratory but also in the field.

  • We investigated the effects of impurity doping on the electrical transport and magnetic properties of TEX>$(Ru, Sn)(Sr, La)<_2$$EuCeCu_2$$O_{z}$ samples. We found that Sn substitution fur Ru causes a significant decrease of the volume fraction of ferromagnetic phase, as well as a decrease of the temperature where the ferromagnetic component is observed. La substitution for Sr leads to an increase of the magnetic ordering temperature with a moderate change of ferromagnetic component. The experimental results are discussed in conjunction with the structural data, transport properties and a possible change of oxygen content.

  • The IR spectra of he heavy metal fluoride glasses showed peaks at $1, 400cm^{-1}$ or $1, 100cm^{-1}$ due to metal oxyfluoride impurities. The intensity of this band and hence the oxide impurity content of the glass could be reduced considerably by the use of reactive atmosphere melting under $CCl_4$ In comparison with the fundamental IR absorption band of heavy metal oxides the oxide impurity bands observed in the heavy metal fluoride glasses are multiphonon bands due to a 2-phonon absorption process. The envelope of the a vs. v curve beyond thue fundamental region shows the exponential fall off of a with increasing v-typical of intrinsic multiphonon absorption. In the multiphonon region the amount of structure is intermediate between that observed for covalent solids and that for ionic solids.
