Weekly Maximum Electric Load Forecasting Method for 104 Weeks Using Multiple Regression Models (다중회귀모형을 이용한 104주 주 최대 전력수요예측)

  • Weekly and monthly electric load forecasting are essential for the generator maintenance plan and the systematic operation of the electric power reserve. This paper proposes the weekly maximum electric load forecasting model for 104 weeks with the multiple regression model. Input variables of the multiple regression model are temperatures and GDP that are highly correlated with electric loads. The weekly variable is added as input variable to improve the accuracy of electric load forecasting. Test results show that the proposed algorithm improves the accuracy of electric load forecasting over the seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average model. We expect that the proposed algorithm can contribute to the systematic operation of the power system by improving the accuracy of the electric load forecasting.

  • Strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) integrated with astronavigation system (ANS) yields reliable mission capability and enhanced navigational accuracy for spacecrafts. The theory and characteristics of integrated system based on unscented Kalman filtering is investigated in this paper. This Kalman filter structure uses unscented transform to approximate the result of applying a specified nonlinear transformation to a given mean and covariance estimate. The filter implementation subsumed here is in a direct feedback mode. Axes misalignment angles of the SINS are observation to the filter. A simple approach for simulation of axes misalignment using stars observation is presented. The SINS error model required for the filtering algorithm is derived in space-stabilized mechanization. Simulation results of the integrated navigation system using a medium accuracy SINS demonstrates the validity of this method on improving the navigation system accuracy with the estimation and compensation for gyros drift, and the position and velocity errors that occur due to the axes misalignments.

  • This paper presents how it is effective to use many features for improving the speed and the accuracy of the visual servo systems. Some rank conditions which relate the image Jacobian and the control performance are derived. It is also proven that the accuracy is improved by increasing the number of features. Effectiveness of the redundant features is evaluated by the smallest singular value of the image Jacobian which is closely related to the accuracy with respect to the world coordinate system. Usefulness of the redundant features is verified by the real time experiments on a Dual-Arm Robot manipulator made in Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd

Color accuracy of imaging using color filters

  • In this paper, the problem concerning the color accuracy of imaging systems using color filters is examined. It is shown that the only solution to the problem is to build systems with the spectral response matching the CIE curves as closely as possible. If the spectral response does not closely match the CIE curves, it was demonstrated that calibration cannot solve the problem and will result in very unstable colorimeters. A practical solution that uses telecentric lenses on the sensor side in addition to dedicated color filters for each CCD detector is presented. For systems that closely match the CIE curves, an innovative method of improving the color accuracy based on the precise measurement of the spectral response is presented. The small discrepancies in the spectral response with regard to the CIE curves are corrected in different ways during the measurements. Finally, it is shown that the tristimulus calibration that is used for display measurement is very unstable for systems without CIE matching and is much more stable with systems that closely match the CIE curves.

  • The histogram specification is to change the histogram shape of the image into the already defined shape. This technique can be applied usefully in various image processing fields which include a machine vision. However, the histogram specification technique has its basic limits. For example, the histogram does not have location information of pixel within the image and receives the digital image, which is stored through a quantization process, as an input. Namely, the accuracy of specification falls in the high-resolution image because the larger the resolution of image is becoming, the more the pixels having similar value are becoming. Therefore, we proposed the multiresolution histogram specification method for improving the accuracy of specification. Consequently, we can know that if the histogram specification is accomplished by using the proposed algorithm, destination image and source image were changed almost similarly.

  • Magnetic Sensors can be employed to localize the unmanned vehicle which is running a predefined path where magnets are embedded for certain spaces. Among various sensor types, sensor arrays of 1-dimensional magnetic sensor have the merit of easy elimination of external magnetic component such as terrestrial magnetism. However, interpolation should be considered in the array sensors in order to increase the precision level because there is a limit in arranging sensors in close interval. We propose the novel interpolation method which can be performed with simple computation and represents the improved accuracy by increasing the linearity of the interaction formula. Demonstration of the linearity and simulation results show the proposed method exhibits the improved accuracy compared to the conventional method.

  • The positioning accuracy of robots depends upon a forward kinematics which relates the joint variables to the orientation and position of the robot extremity in the absolute coordinate system. The relationship between two connective joint coordi- nates of a robot, which is the basis of the kinematics, is defined by 4 Denavit-Hartenberg parameters. But manufacturing errors in machining and assembly process of robots lead to disctrepancies between the design parameters and the physical structure. Thus, improving the positioning accuracy of robots reguires the identification of the actual link parameters of each robot. In this study, the least-squares method is used to calibrate the link parameters and off-line parameter calibration software is developed. Computer simulation is done to study the dependence of the calibration performance upon the DOF of the robot and number of acquired data set used in the least-squares method. 3 DOF Robot/Controller and specially designed 3D coordinate measurer is made and experiment is carried out to verify the theoretical and computational analysis.

  • An interferometer is the unique measurement device that can measure the range up to a few meters with sub-nano accuracy and this characteristic makes it as the important sensing device for the emerging nano-mechatronics technologies. The interferometer, however, is very sensitive to the environments such as temperature, humidity, sound noises, vibrations and air turbulences and these factors result in a few hundred nano meter errors. There have been many efforts to reduce these environmental errors. These efforts are mainly focused in reducing the errors inside the interferometer and improving the environments physically. The purpose of this paper is to improve accuracy of the interferometer by using measurement noise models and the Kalman filter algorithm.

Improving the Performance of Statistical Automatic Text Categorization by using Phrasal Patterns and Keyword Sets (구문 패턴과 키워드 집합을 이용한 통계적 자동 문서 분류의 성능 향상)

  • This paper presents an automatic text categorization model that improves the accuracy by combining statistical and knowledge-based categorization methods. In our model we apply knowledge-based method first, and then apply statistical method on the text which are not categorized by knowledge-based method. By using this combined method, we can improve the accuracy of categorization while categorize all the texts without failure. For statistical categorization, the vector model with Inverted Category Frequency (ICF) weighting is used. For knowledge-based categorization, Phrasal Patterns and Keyword Sets are introduced to represent sentence patterns, and then pattern matching is performed. Experimental results on new articles show that the accuracy of categorization can be improved by combining the tow different categorization methods.

The Effects of Core Strengthening Training on Baseball Throwing

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of core strengthening training on baseball throwing. A total of 14 subjects were recruited from among middle school baseball players. The main outcome measures were as follows: speed guns were used to measure the velocity of baseballs thrown; scored targets were used to measure throwing accuracy; and 50m measuring tapes were used to measure throwing distances. It was found that core strengthening training improved the velocity of baseballs thrown and throwing accuracy and distance. Thus, core strengthening training is effective for improving the throwing ability of baseball players.
