  • An improved control method in turbine control system is proposed. By automatic follow-up design, power system frequency may be maintained within prespecified range. Base or half load control is possible by distributing power plant load allotment. Otherwise, diminutive frequency-load control is dine by governor-free operation in power plant. This paper proposes governor-free operation which is automatically followed by load-limitter setter. The condition which limits governor action may be somewhat improved within boiler condition by this idea. This design has been implemented at Samchunpo thermal power plant. The improved practical results are shown.

  • Rapidly obtaining the coverage characteristics of leaching solution in In-situ Leaching Area of Sandstone Uranium Mines is a necessary condition for optimizing well locations reasonably. In the presented study, the improved algorithm of the Fast Marching Method (FMM) was studied for rapidly solving coverage characteristics to replace the groundwater numerical simulator. First, the effectiveness of the FMM was verified by simulating diffusion characteristics of the leaching solution in In-situ Leaching Area. Second, based on the radial flow pressure equation and the interaction mechanism of the front diffusion of production and injection well flow field, an improved FMM which is suitable for In-situ Leaching Mining, was developed to achieve the co-simulation of production and injection well. Finally, the improved algorithm was applied to engineering practice to guide the design and production. The results show that the improved algorithm can efficiently solve the coverage characteristics of leaching solution, which is consistent with those obtained from traditional numerical simulators. In engineering practice, the improved FMM can be used to rapidly analyze the leaching process, delineate Leaching Blind Spots, and evaluate the rationality of well pattern layout. Furthermore, it can help to achieve iterative optimization and rapid decision-making of production and injection well locations under largescale mining area models.

  • This paper describes the optimal design of a multi-layered surface plasmon resonance sensors to meet various specifications and improve some physical parameters. Dip 3 dB bandwidth and depth were chosen as design parameters and the objective function was the norm of the difference between design parameters and target values. The design variables are thicknesses of each layer and to obtain the design parameters, the optical admittance method was employed. The (1+1) evolution strategy was employed as an optimization tool. By applying the proposed optimization procedure to a 3-layered sensor, the optimized design variables considerably improved the 3 dB bandwidth by 4.8 nm and the dip depth by 1.1 dB.

  • The LQG/LTR method is applied to the real servomechanism with the unknown modeling error and system noise variance Q$_{2}$. The equivalent discretized LQG controller is implemented on the 16-bit microcomputer and the experimental results show the improved stability and the satisfactory performance when the noise variance Q$_{2}$ is increased infinitly.

  • Although the performance of the commercial vessel has been dramatically improved through innovations, there has been no big changes on the traditional anchoring method of commercial vessels, both on design and operation until now. In this paper, two cases of design modifications were introduced for optimized design of pocket type anchor handling, which resulted in improved performance of the vessel's anchoring. From the first time fully balanced type anchors were applied on vessels in Korean shipyard, main design problem on this application was that the anchor doesn't normally slide into the pocket when the anchor fluke is not in line with pocket, as the anchor freely rotates by the swivel on forerunner. In order to prevent the problem, swivel has been deleted on the forerunner to prevent anchor rotation until now, but this solution caused problems such as twist lock of anchor chain, restriction of windlass direction, etc. On this paper, one of the solution is introduced to overcome the design problem by tilting the hawse pipe to some extent, which makes anchor turned at the time anchor ring touches the pocket skirt and that it properly slides into the pocket. Secondly, one of the solution is introduced to overcome misalignment problem between anchor chain cable and roller of chain compressor, which has been frequently occurred, by modification of roller design.

  • A new design method is proposed for a fuzzy PD controller. By analyzing phase plane characteristics we can build and optimize the rule base of fuzzy logic controller. Also, a new gain tuning method is used to improve performance in the transient and steady state. The improved performance of the new methodology is shown by an application to the design of control system with a highly nonlinear actuator.

  • This paper presents a controller design method of bilinear systems via iterative method. The iterative procedure with auxiliary sequences is defined in the process of constructing coupled linear time varying systems from bilinear systems. To design the feedback controller for bilinear systems with quadratic cost function, an optimization procedure is given by the representation closely related to the Riccati approach. In the simulation results, it is shown that the suggested method accomplishes the improved performance and good convergence.

  • In this paper, an improved passive snubber is investigated in a single-phase single-stage full-bridge boost power factor correction (PFC) converter, by which the voltage spike across primary side of the power transformer can be suppressed and the absorbed energy can be transferred to the output side. When compared with the basic passive snubber, the two single-inductors are replaced by a coupled-inductor in the improved snubber. As a result, synchronous resonances in the snubber can be achieved, which can avoid the unbalance of the voltage and current in the snubber. The operational principle of the improved passive snubber is analyzed in detail based on a single-phase PFC converter, and the design considerations of both the snubber and the coupled-inductor are given. Finally, a laboratory-made prototype is built, and the experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed method and the validity of the theoretical analysis and design method.
