  • Objectives : In physiognomy, human emotion such as joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure in social relation is one of important factors for impression formation. Various emotional feelings exert significant influence on the endocrine action and the muscle activities as well as changes of one's impression, which results in changes of one's life. On the other hand, such alterations in life may also bring changes of one's impression. The method of physiognomic examination is not different from the inspecting colors that makes a diagnosis of physical conditions. Thus, based on "Yeongchu Ohseak(靈樞 五色)", the present study compares similarities and differences between the two views of the physiognomy and the Korean medicine. Methods : The similarities and differences between the two approaches will be compared to each other and analysed with the respect to inspecting colors suggested by preceding research in physiognomy and "Yeongchu Ohseak(靈樞 五色)". Results & Conclusions : From this study, we found physiognomy and the Korean medicine shares the same theoretical background. The differences that we found in the present study are as follow. The inspection diagnosis in the Korean medicine focuses on the prevention and treatment of diseases; however, physiognomy focuses on the prognostication of one's life in order to lead a happy life. As the ultimate goals of the two approaches differ with each other, it is peculiarly challenging to compare these two in detail. Therefore, the future study should address physiognomy as a part of the Korean medicine so that the Korean medicine can contribute to mankind for a better and healthy human life.

  • With the increasing socio-economic value of an open collaboration over the Internet, it has become significantly important to successfully manage open source software development program. Most of the previous research have focused on various factors that influence the performance of the project, but studies on how the project owners recognized as "leader" affect the outcome of the project are very limited. This research investigates how individual and governance characteristics of an owner influences the performance of project based on impression formation and social capital theory. For a data set, we collect 611 Repositories and the owner's data from the open source development platform Github, and we form knowledge sharing network of an each repository by using social network analysis. We use hierarchical regression analysis, and our results show that a leader, who exposes a lot of one's personal information or who has actively followed and showed interests to communicate with other developers, affects positive impacts on project performance. A leader who has a high centrality in knowledge sharing network also positively affects on project performance. On the other hand, if a leader was highly willing to accept external knowledge or is recognized as an expert in the community with large numbers of followers, the result show negative impacts on project performance. The research may serve as a useful guideline not only for the future open source software projects but also for the effective management of different types of open collaboration.

  • There are many women who want larger and brighter eyes that will give a favorable impression. Surgical methods that make the eye larger and brighter include double eyelidplasty, epicanthoplasty, as well as lateral canthoplasty. Double eyelidplasty produces changes in the vertical dimension of the eyes, whereas epicanthoplasty and lateral canthoplasty create changes in the horizontal dimension of the eyes. Epicanthoplasty, a surgical procedure which enlarges the eye horizontally, is performed at the inner corner of the eye, whereas lateral canthoplasty enlarges the outer edge of the eye. In particular, if the slant of the palpebral fissure is raised and the horizontal dimension of the palpebral fissure is short, adjusting the slant of the palpebral fissure through lateral canthoplasty can achieve an enlargement of eye width and smoother features. Depending on the patient's condition, even better results can be achieved if this procedure is performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as double eyelid-plasty, epicanthoplasty, eye roll formation surgery, fat graft, and facial bone contouring surgery. In this paper, the authors will introduce in detail their surgical method for a cosmetic lateral canthoplasty that lengthens the lateral canthal angle and corrects the outer tail of the eyes, in order to ease the unfavorable impression.

  • The purposee of this study was to identify the effect of perceiver's clothing attitude on male impressions created by the clothing cues and contexts. In addition, the effect of perceiver's evaluations of clothing appropriateness on male impressions. The subjects consisted of 256 male undergraduate students and 256 middle aged men. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimuli and response scales. The stimuli were 8 color Photographs of drawings of a male figure in clothing which were minipulated in two levels, each of three clothing cues including type, style and color. The experimental design was full factorial design of 2(contexts$\times$clothing types$\times$clothing style$\times$clothing color). Each of the 16 sub-samples includes 16 subjects from the two perceiver group. Questionnaires used to measure perceivers responses to the stimuli were 7-point semantic differential scales composed of 37 bipolar adjectives representing personal traits. Four aspects of clothing attitude(fashion interest, status symbols consiousness, clothing conformity, practicality & comfort)were used to classify subjects into groups of 20 five-point likers type questionnaires adapted from the previous research. Clothing appropriateness were developed 5 point likest scales for evaluation of a stimulus person in each context. The data was processed by factor analysis, ANOVA, multiple classification analysis, Duncan's multiple range test, cluster analysis, MANOVA and pearson's product moment correlations. The major findings drawn from this study were as follows: 1. Perceiver's clothing attitude influenced impression formed by the social contexts and clothing crises. In three groups classified by their clothing attitude, the status symbol-oriented group was most affected by the social contexts and clothing cues. 2. • Candidate images refer to a holistic impression of a candidate which is composed of various dimensions of attributes. This study investigated how online and offline news media, campaign media such as political ads, televised debates, and candidate web-sites, and interpersonal political talk influenced voters' images of a candidate in such dimensions as personal traits, job-performance abilities, and policy capabilities, and further their political decision making in the 17th presidential election in Korea. The analysis focused on President Lee, Myung Bak who won the election by obtaining nearly 50% of the effective votes. According to the data analyses, first, uses of offline newspapers positively influenced voters' images of candidate Lee's personal traits such as his morality, integrity, trustworthiness, and compassion, yet online news uses had an opposite effect on voters' impression of his job-performance and economic policy capabilities. Secondly, among various campaign media, television ads and candidate web-sites positively contributed to the formation of candidate Lee's images, yet showed little direct effect on vote choice, indicating that campaign media mainly indirectly influenced voters' political decision making. Each of the first, second, and third televised candidate debates revealed unique effects on image formation and vote choice. Thirdly, the network size and frequency of political talk negatively influenced image formation regarding candidate Lee's personal traits and economic policy capabilities, yet the discussion network size positively contributed to the Lee votes. Forth, among various dimensions of candidate images, voters' perceptions of candidate Lee's personal traits appeared to be the most significant predictor of the support for him.

  • Dermatopathologic findings on cutaneous streptothricosis (bovine dermatophilosis) were conducted in Dinajpur of Bangladesh for one year. The animals were examined clinically at hospital during the physical visit of the affected animals and clinical manifestations and patients' history were recorded. The gross lesions were systematically examined, noted and categorized. An impression smear was made by the skin scraps, stained with Gram's stain and examined microscopically for the presence of causative bacteria. The suitable sizes of skins of 3 animals typically affected with dermatophilosis were collected surgically from the animals, and prepared for the histopathological study. The cardinal clinical features and gross lesions were characterized as paint-brush cutaneous surface with matted hairs, scab and crust formation, roughened coat; istopathologically as hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis, typical "palisading encrustations", extensive proliferation of coccoid shaped, bluish coloured bacteria (zoospores) in the cells of the outer rootsheath of the hair follicles, separation of keratinized layer from the epidermal epithelium, epidermal hyperplasia, densely cellular dermis with moderate destruction of glandular structures. Coccoid shaped gram positive organisms which form multidimensional arrangement were also observed by impression smear. The clinical signs, gross lesions, morphology of the organisms, staining properties, and histopathological features of the affected skin were diagnostic criteria for the bovine cutaneous streptothricosis.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the sociocultural aspects of zero-calorie beverage consumption among young Koreans. Through an interview methodology, this study explores the perceptions of zero-calorie beverages, consumption behavior, and the important role of zero-calorie beverages in identity formation. The study uniquely integrates theories from health psychology, sociology, and cultural studies to analyze the complex interplay between individual health beliefs, social norms, and evolving cultural trends. The results show that the choice of zero-calorie beverages is heavily influenced by health consciousness, pervasive appearance culture, social media dynamics, and shifting workplace paradigms. Participants had a nuanced view of these drinks as both a "healthy alternative" and an "artificial product," reflecting the deep ambivalence that characterizes modern consumer society. Importantly, we found that the consumption of zero-calorie beverages serves as a means of sophisticated self-expression and impression management, acting as a form of cultural capital. This study makes a significant contribution to our understanding of health behavior in specific sociocultural contexts and provides important insights for health policy makers, marketing strategists. The study emphasizes that a multidisciplinary approach is essential in studying contemporary food and beverage consumption patterns, which have far-reaching implications for public health efforts and social epidemiology at home and abroad.

  • Subtitles in entertainment programs have extended the roles from providing additional explanation and complementary sound effect to maximizing amusement and impression as the type which triggers the audience's interest. This study examined the characteristics of the subtitles and the effects on the audiences, mainly focused on of JTBC. Based on the result of the content analysis, the interested subtitles are continuously presented in each episode (10~20%) compared to the proportion of the total captions. Producers have repeatedly used the nickname of the cast members to construct and reinforce the character of them. The text analysis shows that the audience's perception about the cast is mainly influenced by the subtitles. The producers intentionally use the subtitles and subjectively intervene in the entertainment programs. The subtitles have a major effect on the audience's perception and image formation. Producers should be more prudent about their use of subtitles and viewers, on the other hand, must interpret the meaning of subtitles, as active information consumers.
