  • To develop the highly sensitive Magneto-Impedance sensor, the amorphous ribbon was micro-processed to meander type sensor pattern and the filter circuit was constructed with this pattern. Its external magnetic field dependence of impedance and the output properties of the filter circuit were investigated. The impedance of the pattern had a peak value at the magnetic field of 10 Oe and its changing ratio was about 280%. The impedance change per unit magnetic field was about 36%, in which the output with high sensitivity and linearity could be obtained. The output sensitivity was about 7%/Oe at bias field of 6 Oe..

  • In this paper, we compare performance of common-mode rejection between a differential and a non-differential amplifier system with two electrodes. A differential amplifier system is constant for common-mode rejection ratio(CMRR) on the frequency domain. But a non-differential amplifier's CMRR is determined by $Z_{FB}/Z_e$ ($Z_{FB}$ ; feedback impedance, $Z_e$; electrode impedance). There is trade-off between a non-differential amplifier's CMRR and its differential input impedance. And a non-differential amplifier system has some advantages for a bio-potential measurement with two electrodes because a designer can control the impedance between the body and system's common.

  • Nd-doped $BiFeO_3$ materials were synthesized via a sol-gel method. The crystal structure, magnetic properties, and complex impedance spectroscopy of multiferroic $Bi_{1-x}Nd_xFeO_3$ (BNFO) materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and complex impedance spectroscopy. Our results show that the lattice crystal constants (a, c) and the ratio c/a of BNFO materials decreased with increasing Nd concentration. All samples exhibited weak ferromagnetism at room temperature, and the magnetization of samples was enhanced by the presence of $Nd^{3+}$ ions. There was an enhancement in the spontaneous magnetization of BFO with increasing Nd concentration, which is attributable to the collapse of the spin cycloid structure.

  • This paper considers dynamic impedance functions and presents a detailed analysis of the soil plasticity influence on the pile-group foundation dynamic response. A three-dimensional finite element model is proposed, and a calculation method considering the time domain is detailed for the nonlinear dynamic impedance functions. The soil mass is modeled as continuum elastoplastic solid using the Mohr-Coulomb shear failure criterion. The piles are modeled as continuum solids and the slab as a structural plate-type element. Quiet boundaries are implemented to avoid wave reflection on the boundaries. The model and method of analysis are validated by comparison with those published on literature. Numerical results are presented in terms of horizontal and vertical nonlinear dynamic impedances as a function of the shear soil parameters (cohesion and internal friction angle), pile spacing ratio and frequencies of the dynamic signal.

  • The characteristis of all the instruments and materials used in atomic industry are changed due to irradiation damages by the effects of radiation activities. In this study when R-C series-parallel circuits are irradiated by $\gamma$-ray, variations in its electrical properties have been investigated. The following results are obtained. 1) In the R-C series circuit, the impedance variation ratio is increased as the irradiation quantity is increased up to $10^6[r]$, and above $10^6[r]$, the impedance variation ratio reached at the saturated condition. In the saturated condition, the increasing value was about 1.25 (%). 2) In the R-C series circuit, the power factor variation ratio is decreased as the irradiation quantity is in creased up to $10^6[r]$, and above $10^6[r]$, the power factor variation ratio reached at the saturated condition. In the saturated condition, the decreasing value was about 0.5(%). 3) In the R-C parallel circuit, the impedance variation ratio is increased as the irradiation quentity is increased up to $10^6[r]$, and above $10^6[r]$, the impedance variation reached at the saturated condition. In the saturated condition, the increasing value was about 0.5.(%). 4) In the R-C parallel circuit, the power factor variation ratio is decreased as the irradiation quantity is increased up to $10^6$[r], and above $10^6$[r], the power factor variation ratio reached at the saturated condition. In the saturated condition, the decreasing value was about 1.3(%).

  • Effects of Airgap and anisotropy substrate on input impedance and radiation pattern of rectangular microstrip patch antenna are studied in terms of an integral equation formulation. The input impedance and radiation pattern of microstrip patch antenna is investigated by using Galerkin's moment method in solving the integral equation. Sinusoidal functions are selected as basis functions, which resemble in the actual standing wave on the Patch. From the numerical results, the variation of input impedance and radiation patterns in the variation of air gap thickness, anisotropy ratio of substrate, and relative permittivity of anisotropy substrate are presented.

  • Microgrid, which can be considered as an integration of various dispersed resources (DRs), is characterized by number of DRs interfaced through the power electronics converters. The microgrid comprising these DRs is often operated in an islanded mode. To minimize the cost, reduce complexity and increase reliability, it is preferred to avoid any communication channel between them. Consequently, the droop control method is traditionally adopted to distribute active and reactive power among the DRs operating in parallel. However, the accuracy of distribution of active and reactive power among the DRs controlled by the conventional droop control approach is highly dependent on the value of line impedance, R/X i.e., resistance to reactance ratio of the line, voltage setting of inverters etc. The limitations of the conventional droop control approach are demonstrated and a modified droop control approach to reduce the effect of impedance mis-match and improve the time response is proposed. The error in reactive power sharing is minimized by inserting virtual impedance in line with the inverters to remove the mis-match in impedance. The improved time response is achieved by modifying the real-power frequency droop using arctan function. Simulations results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the control approach.

  • A test method has been attempted to estimate the soil stiffness by measuring and analyzing dynamic signals of stress waves reflected at the bottom end of the SPT rod contacting a soil deposit. Before conducting a real size testing, a series of parametric studies were conducted in this paper to examine the applicability and the theoretical adequacy of the test method. As a result of these studies, it has been shown that the most significant influence factor affecting the amplitude ratio of the reflected wave to the incident wave at the rod-soil interface was the variation of soil stiffness. Also, the variation of the amplitude ratio was found to be closely related with the variation of impedance ratio of the soil deposit to the SPT rod. As a result, a potential of the test method could be proved to estimate the impedance and the elastic modulus of the soil deposit interfaced with the SPT rod using the test method.

  • This paper proposes a dual band branch line coupler (BLC) using a composite right/left handed (CRLH) transmission line. The existing dual band BLCs with open stubs require hundreds of line impedance for the open stub as the frequency bands approach to each other, so it has been almost impossible to realize them. However in the proposed BLC, a CRLH transmission line replaces the open stub with an extremely high line impedance so that the BLC circuit may be realized even two frequencies are close to each other. As an example, a dual band BLC operating at 1800MHz and 2300MHz (the frequency ratio is 1:1.28) is designed and measured. Open stubs with $560\Omega$ line impedance are replaced by CRLH transmission lines for realizing the dual band BLC. The measured performances prove that the dual band operation is well acceptable and the proposed design method is successful even the ratio between two frequencies is not around two nor more.

  • This paper describes an unequal Bagley divider using uniform transmission lines with adjustment electrical lengths between output ports. To obtain an arbitrary dividing ratio of Bagley divider, we have only adjusted the electrical lengths of the transmission line between output ports. All the transmission lines have the same characteristic impedance value. This design method does not require an impedance transformer for port matching. For verification, we simulated and fabricated a 3-way, 1:2:1 and 5-way, 2:3:4:3:2 ratio Bagley divider with an operating frequency of 2 GHz. The experimental results are in agreement with the simulated results.
